Here is what has been tweeted by the AFL:

NAB Cup GF to be at Etihad Stadium next Friday night at 7.45pm. Gabba unavailable due cricket; Etihad has largest crowd option.

Practice Matches for next week set with Essendon / Adel Crows / Fremantle / WCoast to all have weekend off.

Practice matches for next week;

Friday March 15 - Geelong Cats v Collingwood at Simonds Stadium, 4pm

Saturday March 16 - Suns/Melb at Southport, 11.30am; Port/Swans at AAMI, 1pm; NM v Haw at Craigieburn, 2pm

Sat March 16 - Rich v WB at Visy Park, 2pm; GWS v St K at Blacktown, 2pm

So no Sunday games?

I'm tipping we won't be shown either, 11:30 on the Gold Coast, got to hope it ain't too hot again.

And I see we get to travel again.

Don't worry to much about the heat, it's the bloody rain u have to worry about. Has hardly stopped for the last 4 weeks.

It'll be at Southport Sharks footy ground.

On NAB Cup grand final weekend they usually only televise the actual grand final. This will be a true practice match so don't expect too much coverage.

The big challenge for us is to do something we've never done before and that is to beat the Suns in a practice game.

Dual citizenship?

I'm sure there are many with more moral issues than that on the Cote D'or .

That's where having Darwin 9-day camps, playing at Renmark and at Casey in 33-34C pays dividends.

What heat?

don't worry about moral issues on the Cote D'or, the good burghers of Romsey would make the Cote D'or pale into insignificance.

What brilliant specimen came up with an 11:30am start?? That has to be about as dumb as it gets. And, they can't blame TV scheduling for it, either! And, why not play it at Metricon?? We have that magnificent stadium. Why not use it?

Although, the up-side will be that there's a chance I can park the car beside the fence, and toot the horn for every Dee goal!

presume heat, humidity and Dees possibly wanting same day return to Melbourne.

What sort of team to select for this game and in these circumstances?

In the normal course i.e a practice match somewhere in close vicinity to the CBD against top quality opposition, I would have picked the strongest possible team for the final hit out but going over there and in those conditions, I'm not so sure.

With one week's break before round 1 to follow, we need to put more games into some of those legs but a hot steamy Southport v GCS?

I would play all the young ones and give any player who has played all 3 previous weeks the week off except maybe Hogan.

Won't be that bad WJ. Will be playing in about 24 degrees at that time of day, especially given there will be some cloud about. Humidity won't be drastic either, I'm tipping around 65%.

If the rain can hold off, they will be playing in near perfect conditions.

Would love to see Dawes, Viney and McDonald return. Lets hope and see, I guess. If Dawes gets up to play I'd rest Hogan and go with Dawes, Sellar and Pedersen and see if the three can work in tandem.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
