Lol OD

A tad early isn't it. Don't pinch me just yet mate...i want to dream a little longer. At least till round 6 or so anyway

It's a pitty we can't go and snatch Ablett to bolster our mids (& the whole team!) and teach (mentor) the likes of Viney/Magner/Kent, and even the Jones boy over the next few years.

I realise it's like the pot-O'-gold rainbow stuff for us and will never happen given his contract, but to me he's the ideal fit right now given where we are at.

Mind you he's probably the ideal fit almost anywhere!!

A small joke there Rusty.

If you lose your sense of humour as a Dees supporter you are gone mate.

Anyone think that Pederson will eventually show something?

Watching the Kangas and the Cats at the moment, I can see why he didn't get a game.

Doesn't look promising early. Really have to question his inclusion for Round 1 with Sellar up and about.

Joeboy - Garland one of the worst? The stats don't back that up.

I think we all need to chill a bit. Still Nab cup and we were missing our two big forwards as well as Viney, Trengove, Kent( best 22 IMO) and a few other guys. We aren't all of a sudden become a top 4 side lets look for little improvements and start there. And maybe wait until the real season before the talk of suicide starts....

Our use of the ball is woeful. Not sure what these guys did for the last six months but they can't hit the side of a barn.

Our trade mark 'hand pass to a guy in a worse position' was on display today.

We struggle putting together more than 4 consecutive possession without turning the ball over.

On a positive note we won 2 quarters and nealy drew the last. Seller presented well and showed he can be a fill in until Mitch is back.

On way home from game. Take out the second qtr where we were caught flat footed and they got over the back of the press too easily we were much improved with our attack at the contest and structure.

Jamar easily BOG with limited opposition though

Garland aside from one brain fade played an excellent game on Milne and counter attacking. I don't know what others saw that I missed.

M Jones and Terlich really started to look the part second half. Jimmy T not ready yet based on today.

Our first quarter press was the best I have ever seen us implement it. It fell apart as we tired.

We lacked crumbers especially considering we had no Clark or Dawes. Pretty sure I saw Daveys last game in red n blue today.

Some on here lack realistic expectations. Our structure and run has improved but we still have players who lack the decision making and disposal to play consistently at top standards.

Most importantly no injuries that were noted.

Yep, stats don't provide context and rarely tell the full story.

If the stats show that we had more I50's, then that negates any argument that "we couldn't get it inside 50".

The stats re clearances did not support the original proposition that we were "killed in the clearances". We actually won the centre clearances 11 7.

Against that, Disposal Efficiency of the likes of Magner, Jones and Sylvia was a lot lower than that of the likes of Montagna and Dal Santo, which says something about what was happening coming out of the clearances. But then, that's another stat as well.

People here use stats when it supports their argument, and trot out the "stats don't tell the whole story" line when they don't.

That's true 50% of the time,

but statistically wrong more often than that.

How many of our players gave it 110?

Worst trade ever.

Should have kept Gysberts

Apparantly the Tigers beat the Hawks by a kick after the siren, is this officially an early tank by the Dorks?

On the basis of one NAB cup game?

If all that happens is Pedersen keeps Sellar honest, it's worth it. Seems to be working so far.

Carlton have apparently qualified for the NAB Cup grand final and will play the winner of Collingwood v Brisbane Lions.

Unless Collingwood and Brisbane draw!

Concerned about the quality of ball movement and lack of forward and midfield pressure.

But wasn't completely hopeless effort.

St Kilda did play Sydney last week whilst we didn't have a game and our kids played in renmark. For example Magner found more footy as he's had the extra game.

One thing is for sure I'm so sick of Joel macdonald he is worse than useless.

Same goes for Aaron davey. Pathetic footballer.

Like the cameo from tapscott at the start of the last quarter. Lifted the team by hitting in hard.

People are being stupidly harsh on hogan. He's just turned 18 and playing in a battling forward line.

And I think pedersen and sellar will both play round 1 alongside Dawes and be effective.

Gillies battled on riewoldt but otherwise is ok. Terlich looks the goods. Matt jones looks like he'll need another preseason but isn't bad.

People are also harsh on toumpas. He's not a miracle worker and he's smart enough to hold the footy instead of blazing to a non existent forward line. He remains all class but will take time to develop into a consistent performer.

We lost the free kick count 23-10 and the inequality in that department has been fairly constant and telling over the three weeks of the NAB Cup programme. Of course, there's no law that you have to get the same number of frees as your opponent but if it happens often enough, then there is a problem with the way we play. The coaches need to work out what it's all about because these figures suggest we're playing one man short over the ground every week we play.

We stuff up so much in the free kicks.. The bloody coaches need to fix this

Posted

The reason we get less frees is because we are always 2nd to the ball.

You were there? Didn't get that impression from your posts.

Before people start getting carried away, maybe we should just check how many of those frees were because of the NAB cup boundary and OOB rules.

Didnt hear much of Watts

Same old Watts.

Looked skinny.

Had a couple of nicely weighted kicks.

Refused to attack the ball in the air or impose himself on any contest.

Standard.

Who is being "stupidly harsh" on Hogan and Toumpas? The worst I've heard said is that they have things to learn.

Surely not. He's a cross between Brad Miller and James Sellar on a bad day. Would even play Fitzpatrick before him.

You, of course, are completely correct.

Watts is a very ordinary footballer. A horrible pick one. Aint hindsight great ?

ok then, he was fantastic, hard at the ball, took some courageous marks and as a senior player he truly inspired the youngsters with his Joel Selwood-like attack on the ball.

Um...are you visually impaired? I'm not making it up for fun unfortunately.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
