Footy Classified Lifts the Lid on Carlton & Richmond's Tanking 2007

Jeff Kennett, standing in for the so-called "first lady of football" says Liberatore disclosed a more severe form of tanking than Brock McLean's interview.

Backs up what I was told in 2007 by a then Carlton Board member.

The Terry Wallace admission was also covered.

The AFL has dug a hole for itself and what has been highlighted is the need for an independent government enquiry into this mess.

Integrity indeed!!!

It's a pity they didn't jump on this stuff when Brock made his comments.

I posted this a while ago on Demonology:

Imagine a scenario in which there are at least a dozen allegations made in various places about different police officers involved in corruption in the State of Victoria.

Now, imagine what would happen if the government called a Royal Commission to selectively investigate the allegations of corruption against one cop and one cop alone and refused point blank to extend the enquiry to police corruption in the State generally.

And what if one of those allegedly corrupt cops who the government refused to investigate had a close association with the Premier of the state?

You would have to start wondering about who really is the corrupt one in this scenario, wouldn't you?

Knew Jeff was replacing someone, he did well. Just couldn't remember who it was that was missing. Must have been another nobody journalist who thinks they are much more important than they are.

That "journalist" would have interrupted and said, "don't be thtupid" because this is the way she thinks (and remember, she's a chief football writer):-

The Demons and their more rabid supporters keep banging on about the fact that everyone was doing it. No other club seems to have done it quite like this, though, and if Carlton is guilty then the current mood of the AFL indicates that club, too, will be forensically examined and punished.

The AFL won't do anything. Write to your local member.

must say, the best footy classified i have watched

intelligent, reasoned, balanced and no hysterics

why did this discussion not occur during the 8 month inquisition?

even cranky jeff spoke well and reasoned

bring on more shows like this....oh bummer that's right kero back next week

Jeff basically demanded that the Blues be investgated and the Tigers probably as well. He said the Libba statements which he had not seen previously were so far worse and more serious than Brock's, that the AFL would have no choice but to give them the same treatment we got. When Fev's comments were added he was adamant that if the AFL had any integrity they must investigate. Hutchy said on the back of that how can the MFC be the only club dealt with.

Lloyd then questioned CW's prior knowledge of the penalties handed down, before the MFC even knew what charges they may face. He said the AFL had leaked and that was an integrity issue.

Best Footy Classified episode I have seen, I am keeping it for viewing again.

I want to see what the AFL comes up with to avoid investigating a big club.

This could and should be the exposure that lights the fire under a lazy media to run with it, like they did against us.

The Chairman of the AFL Commission might be heavily conflicted on this one.

I don't think they can let this go.

Let's see if our media does have any balls?

Why should we carry the can alone?

balls? their playing with them, but they're, not theirs. they're in the AFL's pockets, the forward pocket, thats where the games being played. & kero's up to neck in it.

The AFL HQ and Commission should all stand down after tonight.

The amount of printed information available for years. All shown in 30 minutes.

$500,000 we copped but we were found "not guilty" of tanking.

This is exactly why i have been unhappy since tuesday.

Unfortunately, there are too many hypocrites in the media who will not allow this story to go much further.

For instance, KB poo hooed a caller who raised allegations of "tanking" by clubs other than Melbourne on the basis that the AFL wouldn't investigate because there was supposedly "no evidence". This suggestion is not much less ridiculous than Wilson's (above). As Kennett pointed out the Liberatore comments made it almost impossible for the AFL not to commence an investigation.

Of course, KB, like CW has allegiances to Richmond and the Wallace admission is damning in light of the wording of Rule 19 (5A) or its counterpart from that time. If the AFL was serious about integrity and ensuring the due observance of its rules, it would look at the Wallace article and charge the Tigers.

I have to agree that this was one of the best episodes I have witnessed. Jeff spoke well and logically and made a number of very good points, both regarding the integrity of the AFL and the length of Tenure for the CEO. His assessment of the culture of inconsistent and semi-corrupt dealings within the AFL hierarchy was damning and not one other panelist could find a hole in his reasoning. I wish he were on the show full-time to make the hard points like that.

Fantastic episode! I was enjoying every moment and it was about time all the Carlton evidence was bought up in the media again. Even Jeff was great and I found myself agreeing with him a lot.

Lets see if the AFL even bother pretending to care!

The AFL won't do a damn thing. You guys and gals are wasting your emotional energy.

That said, credit to FC for shining a light into the issue again. It's quite an incredible injustice.

a lot of the public will have seen that evidence altogether for the first time.

It can only help.

They can chase who they want know and I don't care. Simply as our case is CLOSED and should not be reopened. If they go after Calrtank, or the Tiggers good luck and, bad luck for those clubs as we know what its is like with a media witch hunt.

Interesting to see where is will goes.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
