Pre-season update: Davey to Jamar

Big Maxie Gawn is the biggest legend / cult player at the club in some ways - but Im just starting to get a real concern that this big fella will never really ever get to string a few games together. he seems perpetually injured. With big blokes like that what do you do? Concentrate on skills and just let him stand and take a few marks? ease up on the fitness work that seems to run him into constant problems?

This is exactly why Spence is so important to us going forward. Apart from his one ACL, he has been fairly robust, in more ways than one.

I hope he has a big season. Take no prisoners Jake.

Its a concern that he has probably spent more time on screen on DeeTV than playing on the MCG , however he is still young so has time on his side

Max Bailey, Meeson. I guess the longer your limbs are the greater chance of ruining them one has.

no point putting him in cotton wool and hoping we get limited use. he needs to do all the work at 100%. He either makes it or he doesnt. Its a harsh sport.

I said in 2011 that he won't be ready to go until he's 25 and I stand by that.

I am certain that we will not take a teenage ruckman in the ND for a while...

Just no need to do such speculating when the rewards won't be realised for 5+ years.

Two knee reco's before you are 21 does not look good.

Big Jake is the back up in 2013 I think we can safely put Max in the "hopefully much later basket"

ACL injurys are almost impossible to prevent, can strengthen the surrounding muscles, but when it wants to go its gunna go! The latest hamstring injury is almost a given for ACL recoveries too!

Hopefully he has put enough work into the rest of his body, and can now work on his legs, can could be a contender for the 22 mid season!

While no David Schwartz like tragedy yet, as a fellow ACL'er, I hate seeing young guys do their knees, as it can be so hard to come back from! He is a cult figure, and will get a huge response from the fans, and the players a boost too, upon his return! Good luck maxy

I did my first knee at 26, then the same knee training at around the 13 month mark. As stated hamstrings are unavoidable. Some recos just do not recover 100% and hence re-occur. But my second one worked great, got through a full season and won a flag. As u said ACLs just go no matter what condition your body is in. So I wouldnt hold long term fears for gawny, he may recover 100% and never miss another game. He's young, in a professional environment so getting the best advice, and ruckman generally take longer to peak. I think all the rule changes are going in his favour so may well turn out to be a dominant force. Fingers crossed for max cause we could use a giant beast!

Ive not seen Maxxy play. Ive seen Spencil on tv a cuppla times & live against the Roos at etihad last year against Goldie. I was quite impressed with his ruckwork & around the ground play, even the player

formerly known as Beamer got 4 kicks outa the centre off his taps!

The Russians the Ruussian - all heart. The Basketballer's gone to Brizzy.

Can anyone explain to me why Fitzy gets no mentions,no discussions in our plans,no comment from you

Mexicans when I see him on ABC ( G'day YLB ) He displays all the attributes of an aggressive accurate power forward & " relief ruckman " !

I'll stop there & stick to the topic before I launch into RELIEF ruckmen in moonboots & markoftheyear in BACKBRACES !!!!

Because Fitzy's played like 2 games more than I have.

I reckon his 2 games in downtown Cranbourne would be better than your 2 dream games in sunny philadaphia !

I'm not worried. He's still young, and as they keep on telling us, the big guys take longer. Let him keep working at his own pace and in a few more years (about when Jamar's contract is up) he'll be ready to dominate. I call that good planning from the club.

I watched Spencer closely at Casey on Monday, the guys very fit and determined but his kicking is atrocious, i cant see how you can make at the top level if you cant hit a target from 30mrts away, Nicholson is similar.

It seems a good chunder is more successful than tanking. Wonder if it breaches any AFL rules?

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
