Crows pull out of draft ... sort of

It also means that our picks 49, 53 and 70 become 48, 52 and 68. Seeing as GWS also want to have a pre season selection, correct me if I'm wrong but they have to give up one of their live picks in the National Draft to do so... The last GWS pick before promoting rookie selections is pick 69 currently... so in essence that pick 70 (if they plan on using it) would be pick 67. Not much but there are three less chances of other clubs selecting a player that the scouting department had their eyes on.

it's a strategic move IMO. It acknowledges they are guilty (we all knew that already), their list is in reasonable shape and they are high in the draft. The picks they are giving up could easily provide misses. If they are booted from next years draft as well they will be desperate to get back in 2014 when their list will be looking a bit tired, which may be part of the strategy.

They wouldn't have done this if they were sitting in pole position.

From the Herald-sun

"But you don't hand back draft picks if you aren't absolutely, 100 per cent, rock-solid certain they will be stripped from you at some stage anyway.

So finally we know that Adelaide is guilty, because it believes it is too."

"So in one way this is a masterstroke from Adelaide, especially given AFL football operations boss Adrian Anderson has already confirmed he will recommend the club's actions are taken into account at the Commission next week. Why a masterstroke? Because Adelaide had only two live picks in this draft, and its best pick was a modest 20."

Strange. Will it go down as a pass? I thought once a team passed, they were out of the draft?

Pretty clever when you consider they're giving up 20 and 54.

Next year (if the charges were to continue) they could be looking at losing 10 and 28 (ish).

lol

No, they just are taken out of the order.

I think as a gesture of goodwill on behalf of the AFL - considering the lengthy pounding we have received from sensationalist Wilson, and the interrogation technique of special ops commander Haddad - those lost picks could come our way.

And we could consider their goodwill gesture upon the steps of the Supreme Court....:)

They obviously know they are going to cop it. So may as well hand over their selections this year as they are late in their respective rounds due to the Crow's better than expected season, rather than likely higher picks that may have to be handed back in the future. Still, it all seems a bit odd.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
