Look I have no issue with Cale but he was just frustrating. I cant believe he was number 4 pick. At least he is back at home now. Maybe wc will provide somehting different. He obviously couldnt follow team instructions or get the game plan. Also I think Neeld wants bigger bodies in the contest and Cale just could never put the weight on.

I wish him all the best but I really wont miss him.

Pick 88 sucks but at least Melbourne supporters can be guilt free when booing Morton from now on.

Cheaper than paying out his contract for next year as part of a delisting, opens up a spot on the list.

'How to delist a player who is still under contract, Lesson 1.'

Viewed from the position that Cale did not want to be at the club, and the club did not want him, and nobody else was especially interested, this has been as well handled as you can reasonably expect.

That's a good deal!

88 is akin to delisting him. The only upside being a vacant spot on the list.

Upgrade a pick!

plus his salary we would have had to pay if delisted

(assuming Wet Coke are picking that up)

I think I love you Mark Neeld.

Drafting and development between 07-11 was pretty disgusting and everything our new Collingwood bosses are doing just confirms this.

Out: Moloney, Jurrah, Rivers, Green, Gysberts, Morton

In: Byrnes, Rodan, Dawes, Pederson

I don't care that Morton is gone but we really could've got a little bit more for him.

WTF will we even use pick 88 for? Even a pick like 50 odd could've netted a decent player and we have done well in the past with players at that number.

I hope this club improves but I'm amazed at some of the decisions so far.

Reported in the Age that we are picking up part of his salary next year; must be on peanuts at WC.

No problem from me.

Bye Cale...good luck.

If we end up keeping guys like Bate after we threw away Morton for nothing and Gyberts for not much more, I'll spew.

Still cant believe they didnt accept the 2nd rounder on offer last year from the Dogs for Bate.

If Cale is as bad a choice at pick 4 as most people claim, why do WCE want him? Surely Worsefold must see something in him. I've read the press tweet that claims WCE are confident he can play decent footy. What does it say about Neeld that its better to sever ties with players that he has fractured relationships with than work on them, to get them to buy in? Surely if its a fitness and body size issue, then Misso the guru could address this. My point is that we probably/hopefully will not regret losing Morton, Gys, Moloney and Rivers (though his reasons were supposedly different). But what happens when a very good player falls out with Neeld? A player like Frawley, or Silvia, or Watts, and we are not able to get adequate trade value in return? I'm wondering if Neeld demanded immediate respect and compliance when he came on board, rather than earning even just a little bit first. There's a big difference. We cheer these trades, like a wonderful new broom is sweeping through the club. However, lets not forget that we are yet to see any real positive results on the field from Team Neeld. Ruling with an iron fist is ok if you have something to back it up, some runs on the board. I fear that if we end up in the bottom 4 this time next year, a lot better players than those leaving now will want out. I honestly believe that it is part of a coaches job to assist motivating players and develop successful relationships with them.

Before replying with glib one liners, note that I am being perfectly reasonable in questioning the issue. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this.

You won't want to waste another high draft pick on losing Bate with that thinking then

Get a grip ppl - a free list spot is more valuable than Morton (i don't think anyone could disagree with that)

They gave us pick 88 and we are paying part of his salary. They didn't want him that much but he is a cheap pick 88 for them. Face it Cale is a pea-heart with questionable skills and ZERO defensive mindset. I am the happiest guy around here now that he has gone.

He is a coach killer that refuses to play to team rules and whom other players didn't trust him (direct quote from Rawlings)

Every time Dees were on Tv this year my fiancé would just scream "aaarrrrggghhhh MORTON!" then ask if she sounded like me.... She's the one!

does this spell the end of demonland from lack of material to write about?

I doubt it 'Bringbackbarassi' We still have a long way to go before we have a top four list.

There will still be a number that are below AFL standard in 2013

I have been away.

I can believe we traded Cale for Nothing but not Gysberts and Martin.

Thanks for everything BTW Cale.

It was an experience.

We got something for him..... a verrrry generous pick 88

I don't know what else you were expecting!

Soft, outside, frontrunning, space creating space and space again types like Cale are absolute surplus to needs at this club.

I reckon we did well outa the deal!
