Just a hypothetical after hearing Neelds comments this morning that we have enough kids, is Dom Tyson better than Wines/O'Rourke/Toumpas/Grundy.

Would the club trade Pick 4 for him?

Not something I am in favour of doing at all, but was just asked the question by someone at lunch when he mentioned Tyson wants to head back to Victoria

GWS would have picks 1,2,3,4.

I'm thinking pick 4 in this years draft will be a better player than Dom Tyson.

Tyson has strong ties with Richmond (I believe his old man is the head of the coterie group

I think if he comes back it will be to Richmond

On the hypothetical, I'd be more inclined to grab someone in the draft

It's not as though Tyson has had years of development pumped into him and ready to go, plus it'd take a while to get the GWS stench off him

GWS trying to (allegedly) trade picks now not collect them.

Really hope we snag an experienced midfielder.

Clinton Young, Farren Ray or Greg Broughton will do.

Yes, I saw something yesterday in the press that mentioned the Pies have stated that Young is no longer in their sights due to other dealings that have gone on. Will be interesting to see if we go after him; particularly if Ray decides to stay put at the Saints.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Walsh from the pies said that they were done for trades and will go into the draft with three 1st round picks (stupid really, as they would have been 2nd round picks 2-3 yrs ago). As Young is a FA they don't need to trade for him, they just need to get him to agree before the FA deadline.

My comments were based on the Hun article at:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/collingwood-to-turn-its-attention-to-the-afl-draft/story-fnbk754t-1226497596040

"COLLINGWOOD has all but ruled out luring Hawthorn running machine Clinton Young.

Young, 26, was linked with the Magpies as well as Brisbane and Port Adelaide.

But Magpies football director Geoff Walsh said the club would turn its attention to the AFL Draft after securing a third pick inside the top 20 last night."

The way I read the unrestricted free agent rules is that if they have not moved by 5PM tomorrow then they can only move via a trade.

If I am correct then Rivers, Dunn and Bate have 29.5 hours left to arrange a move.

If not they remain demons or get delisted.

Am I correct because if a club was interested they would take them by 5PM tomorrow for nothing.

After that they have to arrange a deal with the MFC.

Interesting 29.5 hours ahead.

It's almost like a Mexican stand-off... I imagine clubs are loathe to take on any FA's now as in some cases it may affect their compensation picks which they intend to use during the remainder of the trade period. You're right... it will definitely be and interesting 29.5 hours.

Interesting point OD...

I wonder whether there will be any UFA trades in the last week.

They simply could go into the draft but one does not simply get to their club of choice...

Would be fantastic if we snatched Clint Young at the 11th hour. He would add a lot of the pace and foot skills that we are lacking.

The only reason I could see a player going into the draft is if they were delisted.

Might happen to Bate but IMO neither Rivers or Dunn would be delisted by the MFC

No, Delisted FA starts on Nov 1.

The draft will have all the non-delisted OOC players. There will be a few I would imagine.

I believe Rivers has had a contract offer from us in front of him....He just has to decide whether to accept it or go to another club as a FA......I also believe that Dunn in in negotiations for a new contract with us......

yep, means dunn is a monty to stay best 22 down back.

still reckon we're top-heavy for defenders - frawley, mcdonald, watts, dunn, garland are all very tall and will be caught out by smaller, nimbler forwards. i wonder if this move will mean garland gets thrown forward.

quite frankly, the writing was on the wall for riv given that he was thrown forward for the second half of 2012, and melbourne hardly has a history of treating their senior citizens with grace of late.

hopefully he has many sons and they're all guns.

So, I know the body's not cold yet, but does this mean Pedersen will now be coming via a compo pick?

Rivers played as the general of our back line for many years, similar to how Bizzell did. Was a good solid backman, who always took the saving grabs. Pity, but alas we move on.

One would think that Pederson will now make his way to the Dees, to play the role Riv did. If i was Garland, i'd be wanting to make sure i took over Rivers' position, or he could be finding himself in the 2's for a lot of next year, given the KPP depth we will now have.

oh, and good luck to him at the cattery.

really want to see riv playing finals footy. hopefully the dees will be there in 2013, but i think he'd be a certainty if fit to see september action with geelong in 2013.

Rivers will be a star at Geelong... of that I am certain.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
