Not really, Moore has said he regrets the move from Collingwood. If Melbourne was a stronger club he would not be too concerned with regret, he would have embraced the club. Unfortunately we were going nowhere at the time and apart from some brief periods haven't been remotely successful over the past 40 plus years.

Chasing success by going after the Peter Moore's (Templeton, Diamond Jim, Big Carl etc.) of the world is a symptom of what has been wrong with the club.

That's hilarious. Gotta love pre-trade posturing. I'm keen to see Dawes come across and I think we should be able to get something sorted. There have been some wacky comments from the Pies lately though, such as the one you've mentioned, and Eddie's Wellingham comments.

Damn, I know people at the club read these forums from time to time, and I really hope they take note of this thread. Whether people like the look of Dawes or not, very few think he's worth one of our first round picks. Personally, I maintain that he's at best worth our third round pick, but others seem to rate him a bit higher.

I think the alternative to Dawes is trading pick 4 for Hogan. It means it takes an extra year or two and costs us a bit more. But Hogan is a better player.

I'd still be happy with Dawes ..... for the right price.

All that is about to change - at least this Club will start to smell like a Club again.

No Jumbo, 'due diligence' was not performed as was shown by the results in the examples you correctly used.

Any player, whether first year or experienced, brings certain talents which need nurturing and development - it isn't a case of pick some and throw out those who don't survive - that is a bad culture.

I think we are heading in the right direction going by what Neeld is saying and his comments re chasing Cloke reinforce that to me.

The only problem I have with Dawes is paying too much and I don't think we will get drawn into that. Collingwood are talking up the trade for Dawes but at the moment they have him behind Jackson Paine who they picked up at 50 in last years draft.

Neeld and Brown will know his upside if there is any, the price to me would be a third round, maybe late 2nd round pick or like player if they feel he can add value to the club.

I dont like it. I'm not sure too many of the folk on this site would either. But I CAN see the thinking.

Pick 4 could be potentially a gun ... or potentially a Morton.  We need experience and muscle to develop the kids in our side around, and we need that now. Many on this site are always (rightly) banging on about culture and developing the talent. 

Well, this is one of the possible ways to do it. Not only that but I'm sure MN has one eye on his coaching life. If we were to win only 3/4 games in 2013 his tenure may well be cut short and he's not going to let that happen without a fight. Bailey showed what happens when you bet it all on kids and cant get the runs aren't on the board.

To be clear I don't want to lose pick 4 on two middle of the road players. I don't want to get Wellingham here when he's clearly said he wants to play somewhere else (perhaps hearing word of this deal?) But I do see the thinking behind it and while I would grit my teeth I could live with it ... I think.

Morton, Gysberts and Strauss were first round draft picks who aren't even in our best 22.

The club needs to start winning games next year, the club needs to bring in players who will help achieve this.

A Clark-Dawes attack, plus a hopefully improved midfield may net us a 9 or 10 win season. Imagine winning every second week!

Dawes, while not a star is a gorilla who will need a gun defender on him. Clark is the same. We could really expose some teams with weak defences.

We will be plagued with mediocrity for years and years...again!
