Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Lynden Dunn looks to be a stayer

From the MFC web site review of players; about Dunn:

Lynden was one of the most improved players for 2012. He should look forward to the pre-season, knowing that he’s locked down a spot within the team. - Jade Rawlings (backline coach)

Lynden looks to be a stayer.

Interestingly, Dunn is the same height as Rivers and a few kgs heavier. Hmm....

I think moving him back is a good move. He has some what of a tank, he is an antagonising bastard - forwards worst nightmare.

Further, he has a good clearance kick, provided its to the right spot - in excess of fifty metres out of the back line.

hopefully it proves to be a good move.

Dunny has become a solid role player, and is amongst the best few kicks at the Club. Given his versatility, and our dearth of decent kicks, I would have been very surprised if he had been shown the door.

U need to try and keep as many of our players with exprence, that can kick to a tarket, i think his time as a tagger on some of the biggest divers snipper, harvey has taught him some bad habbits, lets see how the roos go without thier best player, when was the last time he played a bad game and they won a game, its hard to find one

I'm glad they've kept Lynden, his last few games down back were quite servicable.

If I remember correctly he now has a baby son: often with responsibility comes maturity!!!

And a loss of facial hair doesn't hurt!

Titan ?

Not happy Jan. As I'm sure you can imagine.

What scares me the most about re-contracting him is whether we'll get anything out of him until Round 18, 2014. Last time we saw improvement and re-signed him, he disappeared. With Rivers going, it seems like he will get a game as a KPD, but I have no confidence at all in him holding the spot down and continuing the slight improvement he showed this year.

I wait to be proven wrong. At this stage, I highly doubt I will be.

Finished last in his heat to continue our good form this year.

Nearly everyone who runs just wants a grand final ticket, don't think anyone (aside from Jonesbag that is) takes it seriously...

Ben Hudson ran purely because he promised a mate he'd take him to the game

I'd love to see Dunn play on, love him. His last few games this year were fantastic, he showed genuine hunger which is all I ask of players.

By this reckoning though Mono it seems 'Gys' will be with us next year also something which I'd be bloody happy with also!

From the 2012 player review by the coaches:

Pre-season is going to be really important for Gys, to make sure that he can try and get through uninterrupted from injury - if he does that, he’ll keep progressing to being the AFL player that he’s capable of being. - Aaron Greaves (midfield development coach)

Not so. Dunn is so far the only one mentioned "that he’s locked down a spot within the team".

Gysberts comments, as for many others, are about getting a good preseason in etc. Generic.

Not that I want to see Gysberts go.

I find it staggering, not to say insulting, that every listed player doesnt have the option of taking up one free ticket and a guest ticket to the G/F,as long as they use it themselves.

The builders labourers built this city, and the players are the only indispensible blokes in the game

I agree Toast

In a team without almost no senior players Dunn is well worth his spot.

Certainly the next level for his is to play with physicality when it counts. None of this niggling stuff but actually cracking in a winning the hard ball. Skill and atheltic wise he has all it takes to be a reasonable half back flanker.

I get worried because the last time Dunn played as well as he did in the backend of this year was when he was last out of contract. 1 year deal only is a must.

Glad Dunn is a stayer. A lot of people write him off year after year, but he's one of the only blokes that plays with a bit of guts. Sure he's not the classiest or most skilful player, but he provides a contest and can roost it when needed. Uses his body pretty well too. Only knock on him is that he can play for the free, hopefully we won't see to much of it next year. Genuine player and has a role in this side.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
