Wellingham will get weeks

jumbo returns

Recommended Posts

How times have changed... 80's early 90's that's a classic example of a well executed shirt front, now he'll go for 4weeks

No way, this type of hit was never considered a well executed shirt front. Simpson was in the air marking the ball and Wellingham made no effort to mark or hit the ball away. Gone and would have been in the 80's

In the 70s, Simpson would have got up and played on.

Crazy bastards back then.

Yes anyone who has not seen the 1971 GF. Do it. Your jaw will hit the ground. It was a seriously vicious afternoon. I was there as a kid. Remember it well.

Worst possible offense as far as the AFL is concerned. Severe, intentional and head high. They'll throw the book at him.

Except for the fact he plays for the filth. That'll shed a week or two off.

What it should be: intentional, severe, head-high - leads to 9 activation points, the highest possible, and then the case goes to the Tribunal where hopefully he gets about 6 weeks.

What I get the feeling it will be: reckless, high, head-high. Just because the MRP is totally inconsistent and ridiculous in its findings. This would lead to 7 activation points, which is a 'level 4 offence', which means 425 points for rough conduct or charging, which means 4 weeks.

Shirt front? No way. It was an ambush!

Wellingham was airborne and had eyes only for his opponent.

Type 'big afl bumps' into YouTube, find the one that's 5.27mins and see the hit at 17seconds...

Collingwood player launches through the front of, I think it is jezza...crazy deja vu

Never said I condoned it, only that it was a lot more commonplace and while not necessarily accepted it was certainly tolerated as part of the game.

*i would have embedded the vid but using an iPad

Wouldn't it be dreadful if tonight's loss to Carlton was the beginning of a big slump!

Sadly, a highly unlikely scenario since Pendlebury's due back next week and the Pies have great reserve strength. I would put last night down as an aberration.

Still, the way the ladder is ATM, they might fall to fifth at the end of this round if the other favourites get up. Even a minor slump in form involving any of the top six could spell doom to their top four and ultimately, their premiership chances.

I'm sure the AFL would love it if Collingwood finished 5th and Carlton 8th to set up an Elimination Final match up between those two clubs in the first week of the finals.

As for Wellingham - see ya in a month's time.

Magpie on report

My hope is that wellingham gets 6-8. He'll get 2 or 3 at worst. Hell, I would not be surprised if he gets none.

Melbourne supporters got roasted for cheering an injured Didak off at the QB. What will the papers say about the filth jeering Simpson off?

The most ridiculous thing about it is that Filth supporters will be up in arms if he gets ANY games for it. They surely consider it 'part of the game.'

They have less of a clue than Carlton supporters.

Absolutely not a shirt front. As judged in the 60s and 70s this was a 'charge' (defined by the fact that Wellingham was airborne with both feet off the ground at the time of contact) and was always worthy of suspension if nabbed on it.

Good point. Channel 7 showed a youngish collingwood supporter (about 25 i'd guess) standing and cheering (praising wellingham i think) as Simpson was practically carried from the ground. I assume that's what he was cheering but to fair i'm not 100% sure. If so it would be great to get a still of guy and make him an example of a bastard supporter - nothing makes me more angry than someone (anyone) giving it to someone who is hurt or cheering the player who hurt him

Not true. Off the ball is deemed worse.

If you think the 71 GF was bad, check out to replay at Moorabbin in 72. Revenge. Carnage.

Not suprised you say that. The 71 second Semi was even more brutal than the GF, if possible. Those teams genuinely hated each other. Then Jeansy went to Hawthorn!!!

It was a flying elbow to the head with no eyes for the ball against a completely open traget.

Disgraceful and not anything remotely close to a classic shirtfront. Should get 6. Will get 4. Uproar over MRP consistency will rage.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
