Just finished watching "On the Couch" and was annoyed at Mike Sheehan (which is typical).

Gerard was asking about the possibility of Mick Malthouse coaching somewhere next year, to which Mike passionately replied "NO".

Gerard pushed the point and Mike said that Mick had said to many people he will not coach next year, so we need to take his word.

Why take his word and beleive him so hard, yet they continually refuse to take TS at his word.

On top of that, I was just as annoyed at Roosy for being upset that JT said that we have a good list and coaches should be happy to coach us next year. What do you expect him to say when questioned. "no, we are no good and I cant understand why any coach would want to come here"

I actually wonder why I watch all these shows every monday when I see this type of journalism.

Mike Sheahan has lambasted us year in year out, he probably hates the fact that we may get a great coach......

The football media are not football experts.

They are professional rumour-mongers and gossips who happen to love footy.

Even the ex-players, who often make a splash when they first enter the media (eg Lloyd), soon fall into line and blather on and on, on cue.

You can safely ignore everything the media say about JS, JT, MFC, AFL, anything really, as it makes no difference at all.

As Mark Haysman said "there's more politics in football, than in politics."

Every poster gives Mike Sheahan such a hard time, yet the bloke sitting next to him is a bigger spud. A self serving, arrogant, smarmy know all is the abrasive Paul Roos.'At the Swans, we do this, we do that, Longmire is this, blah, blah' Very, very annoying. I can't stand him and I can't believe some posters here respect him and want him as coach...no way!

Big difference between journalism and commentary. Mike S isn't much chop with his opinions but he often breaks stories - that's where he's good. The best example was Hird last year. All the ex-footy players said he wouldn't do it. All the professional journos said he would. They put the pieces together and were right. As to on the couch, Gerard has been very well informed in recent weeks and he really seemed to have something to push on Malthouse. It was a strange exchange in general.

Careful Ned ... it's sacrilege to offer such a balanced view on this forum.

The fact is Malthouse is not going to coach next year, end of story.

Iagree Ned. Whilst I was watching I kept thinking why is Gerard pushing this after Sheahan was so catagoric that Malthouse would not coach. Me thinks Gerard knows something that he is not telling any of us.He also kept saying that Melbournes coaching position was filled so what did that mean.

your point reminded me of a quote I heard somewhere....Apparently there is approx 500 political journalist vs 1500 AFL journalist in this country...

therefore three times as much crap written :)

Most likely from White Crow.

I would have thought Rosella might be more appropriate for a parrot fashioned comment ;-)

You would think that Gerard would be keeping a keen ear to all of the ongoing discussions his younger brother would be currently having with the club about our makeup next year..

Which is more important to you, a breaking story or an accurate story.

Probably one of the more interesting aspects... the Greg-Gerard connection. Not sure what weight to give it, but its an interesting observation.

Im not really sure what anyone would expect Mickey Mouse to come out and say just now. He would surely be foucssed on picking up the two in a row. Hed happily spruik the company line in so far as it affects him and on he goes.

The moment the siren blasts to end the 2011 GF it might be a very different noise we hear from the Malthouse camp.

we werent supposed to get a carbon tax either.. things change

My money is on Malthouse at MFC next year...Just a Hunch.

But everytime i hear Malthouse speak now he is getting further away from the Mapies.

Last Sunday on SEN he was practically coaching the MFC whilst doing special comments.

Accurate of course. But it's a very competitive business - particularly given newspapers are dying and journalists are under huge pressure to produce exclusives to lure readers - so I tend to be a bit sympathetic and exercise my best judgement when reading. Our journalism is a bit sloppy but generally a good read.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
