Will any of our assistants be saved. I reckon Scott West is still a good person to have around unless the new coach has someone better in mind. I think Josh could be replaced and Brian Royal is an experienced person but I think in todays footy we need someone fresh out of the game.

Should it be a case of wipe the slate clean and bring in fresh voices?

its a good question. As Todds job sort of sits outside the immediate coaching circle he'l be there. As to others.. , well many senior coaches like to pick their own.

Id imagine the current lot might be sprucing up their CV's

Depends entirely on the incoming coach.

Not worth discussing until that is sorted.

That will surely depend entirely on the Coach we get to take over. It will be interesting whether we get a 'Term Coach', or if we go with a short term WamBam hit & Run Coach for one Year.

I wouldn't mind a 1Year coach, to put the cleaners through the "crushed velvet", on our list & then starch everthing within reach.

I don't think any will survive. Brian Royal will be the first to be shown the door.

That's your opinion based on your opinion that Royal isn't a good defensive coach.

I feel that they will all go.

It's a shame but the tar brush is wide and sicky...

Royal was there during the Danners years and struggled then too.

Once Dean was terminated that is it for all our contracted coaches.

That's the rub of the green.

You would doubt any of them would be thinking of long service leave!

Posted

I reckon the lot of them are cactus. Bailey might've been the one who took the fall for 186, but he's not the only one who got hit by the splatter. If they weren't all tarnished before, they are now.

Posted

Well the coaching merry go round will be cranked up to a blur this seasons end...lol

Posted

I would expect it would be a necessity for the incumbent senior coach to add his team of assistants

Bernie Quinlan is the perfect example of what happens when you don't

I would expect some to be asked to stay but not all

If you have a harmonious and productive working environment good things happen

The days of the coach who does everything aka Grant Thomas are long gone

Posted

The new coach, whoever that might be, will want to hand pick his own entourage. Even if it were Tod Viney, I expect he would want to hand-pick his own lieutenants.

Love it Nasher.

I'd happily see them all go. Obviously Bailey is the head coach, but I only see decline not improvement through all parts of our game, and that to me says that the assistants aren't doing a very good job. Quite obviously I may be well wrong, but that is what I take from my observations, and if I'm correct then they all have to go.

I read this morning that Royal is contracted for three years. Please, please tell me it's not true. From the outset his appointment reeked of a spot at the club needing to be filled and him being the last assistant coach available as no other club wanted him.

Posted

All the assistants will be gone at year end. They wont survive the incoming coach and fallout.

And its unlikely they would sign an assistant coach for 3 years when the head coach was up for one year....Hmmmm.

Posted

yeah 1 read the 3 years as well for Royal.

BUt the new coach will have the final say and I would clan the place out if I was him. The only assistant that really impressed me was Wellman and he got pinch!

well, the back line certainly hasn't covered itself with glory since Wellman shot through.

it was a big strength last year for us, this year, totally disorganised!!

Why do you think West should stay? Why do you think Royal and Josh Mahoney should go?

In every loss we have been thrashed in the midfield. Why do people think he should be spared? Because he was a great player?

Agree. Getting Wellman was an absolute coup. Losing him was a very big loss.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

Some veteran Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you the following observations from another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
