:( RIP Sean.

Edit:

Was even put up forward on occassions.

Whenever he went forward you just knew havoc would result, even when injured.

I still have a my photo with him as an 8 year old little demon talking with him after the last training session before the 88 grand final!

Loved the way you played Sean.

Thoughts to the Wight family and Big Jimma too.

yep, sad day for the Demons, I remember Wighty very well , great player

Shocking news.

For those who did not see it, I remember him going forward in the second half of the elimination final 1987 vs the Eagles and turning the game off his own boot. Kicked four, memory suggests. Terrific in the air and courageous.

His passing is very sad.

The elimination final in '87 was against North Melbourne at the MCG. We played the Eagles in the '88 Elimination Final at Waverley.

edit: He kicked 2 goals in this game against the eagles, 11 possessions (10 kicks, 1 Handball), 5 marks.

edit #2: You may be thinking of the Preliminary Final two weeks later against Carlton at Waverley. There he kicked 4 goals. Played really well along with Jamie Duursma.

RIP Sean Wight. You gave me many happy moments. Thanks.

Sean Wight was really one of the first Melbourne players that stuck in my head as a kid. Although I can't remember a hell of a lot in my early days of following the Dees, I definitely remember him.

RIP Sean

He was a favourite of a weird 5 year old who lived interstate that somehow came to be a lone Melbourne supporter in a sea of Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond supporters too. He and Jimmy were probably my favourite two.

His sudden passing for me is a reminder about the reality of cancer really. As someone who's never lost anyone close due to cancer, Jimmy's amazing fight had probably made me forget a bit how brutal it can be and how mortal we really are.

RIP Sean.

Condolances to Sean's family and the wider Melbourne family.

Remembered fondly and proudly. A wonderful story with a sad ending.

You're right thanks for that - '87 was a huge win on a fine day at the 'G. '88 at Waverley (the day I'm remembering) was wet (rained through the first half), very tight and Sean was crucial to the win

Was an important part of a team, who were perhaps not as talented as today's lot. However, along with Jimmy, Danny Hughes, Rodney Grinter and others, they played with such passion, that if the current bunch can "channel" some of that culture, the future will be very bright indeed! Thank you Sean.

I've just re-edited my post above to clear it up for you. It's the Prelim against Carlton I think you're thinking of. He kicked 4 then. He kicked 2 goals in the Elimination Final v Eagles.

*ref: AFL Footy Livewire stats.

edit: He also kicked 3 goals in the Semi v Collingwood.

Very sad news -

RIP Sean - you played and lived life like a true demon

I had the privilege of meeting Sean on a number of occasions. He was a gentle guy and passionate about his footy and the MFC. When he played, he gave everything he had within him.

RIP Seany mate and may the boys do you proud tomorrow night.

Likewise and very well stated. RIP S.W

A great guy and a great footballer. This is so sad I feel gutted. Spoke to Sean many times and he was a real favourite of mine. Modest and self effacing but very down to earth in his approach to everything.

Sincerest condolences to his family, friends and all at the MFC. RIP Sean.

One of the original running backmen. Took a few years to get used to the oval ball however he was crucial in the dees surge to finals for the first time in 23 yrs, awesome memories! Very sad day, my thoughts go to his family.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
