Very sad news.Will fondly remember Sean's career and fantastic contribution and hope he gave us supporters after 23 years in the wilderness.

Wow...i just found out walking home....And i just watched that Video.

Tears are flowing right now...Sean was one of our stars in 87-88 and beyond, but he was a main cog in getting the MFC back to September after so many dark years.

Thankyou Sean...May you rest now free from pain...Never forgotten.

Rip Sean,

The reason I am a Melbourne fan is due to Sean. When i was a kid I was a bomber fan. Then my mum informed me we had a cousin from Scotland (Ireland) called Sean Wight playing for Melbourne. Fate would bring him to a footy clinic in Albury back around 1985, So Mum my told me to introduce myself as a distant cousin, mentioning Seans Sister.

Well he looked very surprised as you can imagine. Aussie kid in the Bush related to Sean lol. But it was true as my Mum was English.

Anyway he invited us into his life and that of the Melbourne Footy Club. Tickets to games, Entry in rooms and after game club functions. Finals Tickets and the GF of 1988. Well as a kid of 12, I was sold on Sean as a Man, the footballer and the Club.

I love this club and I have Sean to thank. BTW geez i hate Essendon now.

You life has ended far too soon, but boy you gave a great account of yourself when on this earth.

I only knew you from watching you play, but from all accounts you conducted yourself in life the same way as you played footy - great courage, integrity and an honesty that meant that you always did things your way.

My condolences to your family, I hope in time they can find some comfort in the knowledge that you gave me and so many other mad Demon fans such pleasure during an exciting era for the footy club.

You will always be a cherished member of the Melbourne Football Club family.

Desperation and Courage personified. I can't recall him ever shirking a contest, even if he was likely to be wiped out! Damn quick in spurts and could run top speed all day. Played way taller than his appearance would suggest with an amazing leap from only one or two steps.

One of my fondest memories is the 87 prelim (i think, not the only game that he did this), where the game was on the wire and he just kept going 3rd man up into the ruck contests from boundary throw ins, punching it 20 - 30 meters our way until it was out of danger and heading towards our forward line.

I was reminiscing the other evening and watched a short highlights reel of the 87 Night Grand final where it all started. For those who may not have viewed it, watch for his 3rd man up clearance from a stoppage and then follow up into the forward line a few seconds later for the mark and goal. Also his rev up of the crowd post match on the ground with Swooper and all the boys celebrating...moving stuff.....

R.I.P. Wighty and a big thank you for so many memorable moments and amazing efforts for our club. Condolences to his family, friends, the MFC and big Jimma.

Fourteen years ago today I lost my beautiful demon loving Mum to this horrible disease,today we all lose another demon loving person in sean wright.My hope is that they are both together with demon scarfs on kicking our boys up the bum for a massive win tomorrow night.Do them proud tomorrow boys I'm sure they will both be cheering you on.RIP SEAN and MUM.

Shocking news.

For those who did not see it, I remember him going forward in the second half of the elimination final 1987 vs the Eagles and turning the game off his own boot. Kicked four, memory suggests. Terrific in the air and courageous.

His passing is very sad.

yes we were dead and buried in that game and he turned it around with courageous pack marks. what a hero of our club.

Tomorrow night's game against the dogs will bring back a lot of memories of the Western Oval Round 22 1987.

For some of us here, it is probably a day we all treasure and never forget...Sean Wight played a Blinder off half back, & was a huge part of the MFC making the finals for the first time in 23 years.

I know i will be thinking of that day.

You were a true Champion Sean, and as you were younger than i, this has hit me rather hard.

Sean Wight played with an incredible spirit and in many ways sets an outstanding example for today's young team to follow. He refused to be defeated.

I feel incredibly sad tonight with a part of that special group from 1987 and 88 passing away. I didn't know Sean personally, but I am feeling the loss just the same. To all Melbourne supporters - never forget the courageous, selfless and spectacular number 27 who thrilled and inspired us as we followed the red and blue. Rest in peace Sean Wight. Thanks for the special memories.

Before my time, but asked my dad and he reckons he's genuinely one of the greatest to wear the red and blue, rates him up there with Flower. Called him 'The Complete', rating him as the complete footballer. Had it all.
