What a champ. Not that there was any doubt after last year.

Gotta love it when you grab a gun form the rookie list.

Its like we got him for free!

Moloney, Jones and Sylvia are supposed to be our hardest players. But suddenly our tackles, clearances, and rebounds through the corridor are up... and it's when Trengove, Scully and McKenzie come back and find some freedom.

When you have the latter three names as your SECOND midfield... and you have Martin playing like Jamar, and Gawn doing his job as a reliever, and as a marking target... You can't ask for a whole lot more.

Posted

Gysberts says hello. 30 disposals again and elite hands in close. As good as Scully's.

Those 4 playing together = win contested possession = win games.

But for me tonight McKenzie typified what we have been lacking. He worked like a maniac and hunted that ball like his life depended on it.

Agree 100%, Jaded. Those four just add SO much to our team.

But, on thread, Jordie is sensational. He knows no fear, and just throws himself in without a thought for life or limb. He's like a man possessed!

Go, Jordie, yo good thing!

McKenzie, Sculls and Trenners all do something a lot of second year players dont, the don't just dive after the ball, they throw their bodies at their opponents to shield the ball and then get it and get it out. And if they don't succeded on the first go, thye go again and again and again.

Awesome to watch!

Got to love the Gys's work too!

What can you say about this bloke? His attack on the ball in any contest is frightening.

If anyone else can remember back that far, I am reminded very much of Bobby Skilton and Kevin Murray. I am not saying he is going to reach those heights, but like Skilton and Murray he locks his eyes on the ball like some heat-seeking missile and nothing - NOTHING - makes him change his focus or attack. His second and third efforts after being gang tackled are inspiring and the demons fans roar when he does it. Great stuff.

I better stop now - blood is running to a place it shouldn't and I have to get up from the computer soon.

At a few centre bounces in the last quarter I wondered why Jordie was on the wing and not in the middle. Can only have been because he'd given his body such a battering in the first three. He must have been absolutely spent. So often he just threw himself at the ball at the feet of two or three Bombers to stop them taking it away from a stoppage. That's the stuff that never ends up in stats, and as good as his stats were today, they don't do full justice to his game.

Gotta love his endeavor, he reminds me very much of Brett Kirk and I firmly believe he will become a significant leader of our great club, just like Kirk was at the swans. There is no doubt just like Kirk he sets the tone for the entire midfield with his intent on man & ball, the only difference is he has better disposal so therefore can be more than a tagger.

Note remark that Kirk was just a tagger is not intended, I have an amazing amount of respect for what Kirk bought to the swans.

Maybe we should recruit on the basis of whether the player's name is Jordie, Jack or Tom. In Gysberts and McKenzie we have two of our very own "Junkyard Dogs". I love them.............. In a manly sort of way.............not that there's anything wrong with that.

what a difference a week can make so good to be reading all this positive stuff about such a spread of our young players bit different to last sat morning!!

I made a deal with myself not to get overly excited about a 19 or 20 year old anymore, as it has often led to disappointment down the track, but stuff it. I love the way McKenzie goes about it, doesn't look or move like an AFL footballer, but I honestly think his grunt work is as important as anyone's work in our midfield.

And I think he will play a lot of his career without too much recognition from outside the club, and he will never be an 'elite' midfielder of the competition, but he will get a lot of internal recognition at the club and will be an integral part of our midfield over the next 10 years.

30 possies, 13 tackles.

Puts many of his teammates to shame, every week.

And boy, don't his tackles stick! For those who have never seen Barassi play, you are getting a version of the great Ron when you watch Jordie's FIERCE, BONE CRUNCHING tackles. Just like Ronnie! Gee, this McKenzie could end up better than ME!

Posted

The new culture of the MFC will spring forth from the backs of players like McKenzie.

Jordie's focus and determination (and his tackles) are vice-like, and he is a Demon through and through. I can't imagine that he would ever disappoint us.

I think so too.

Which is why I would give them run of the place (Leadership Group - frack off leading teams!!).

But that is just me...

Jordie's a freak, and a genuine star in the making!

Outstanding recruit for the MFC, and just a pleasure to watch a bloke prepared to do the hard things and get his hands dirty every time he plays:

All of the above...

How often Friday night did McKenzie find himself at the fall of the ball ? Often you say. That's no fluke. Firstly, the ability to read the tap, second, the quick reflexes he possesses - are a pleasure to watch. Whether that be first to the ball or first to tackle.

My sister in law knows his family....Tells me he is a top kid, and his family are so proud of him.

Premiership core player. Jordie's game in round 1 last year kept me watching...i saw the spark. The rest of the game was hideous!

If anyone watched the BigPond interview with Watts, he said (somewhat paraphrased) that Jordie, when fit, is pretty much first picked because of how bloody hard he is at the contest.

RANGA of the highest quality. Last week if you recall Judd took a ball out off Ranga's hands as he was desperately trying to gain the pill 4 us on the ground, Ranga i'm sure was very [censored] at this, it was even highlighted on The Couch by Healy. The boy will not let it happen again, I love his attitude, his desire to win the pill and desire to learn. Hard as granite and will inspire all to do the same IMO.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
