We are screaming for an outside player with food finishing skills who runs both ways. Sounds like stretch could be that player.

So, for us to get him as a third rounder we only hope the clubs who finish below us nominate him with their second picks right?

ie, Lions, saints, giants finish below us, if none of those three pick him with their picks 19-21 then say Richmond who finish one spot above us nominate him with pick 23 we can then use out third round pick, but if, lions, giants saints use a second round pick we have to use our second.

Correct, which is why we'll get him with our 3rd round.

Or if another team bids their first rounder on him.

Unless St Kilda or GWS think he is worth Pick 20.

Or that they think we will use Pick 22.

They might think both.

If he keeps getting named in the bests in the nat champs - he is going to cost Pick 22.

Lucky there are no more games left in the champs!

But yes I wonder how brave clubs are.

It's not just whether St Kilda or GWS think he's worth pick 20 either. It has to be whether they think out of whoever they rate on their draft list he'll be the best one there. For them to nominate him at pick 20 they'd have to be pretty confident that none of their top 10-15 guys would fall down.

In fairness to other clubs the father son bidding should come before the pick. When the Saints get their pick 20 that's when they should decide if they'll bid for Stretch. You can't bid a draft pick when you don't know it's value.

If we trade our second round pick for an established player like we did with Vince last year, does that mean Stretch would be our 3rd round pick? If so, I'd hope we're looking at this option to firstly, getting more mature talent into the club, and secondly to get Stretch cheaper than necessary.

No, because the nominations are done earlier, therefore we already know if we're using that pick on him or not.

If he is worth a second round pick and we get him at that pick so be it. Would be good to add him and Brayshaw to the midfield group and if we get a pick for Frawley either use it on one ofthe KPP's or trade down for a mid like we did with Tyson last year. Would love to get Shiel but if we finish above the Giants they'd be unlikely to work something out.

I don't think anyone above our second rounder will bid as there will be sliders, I think he is worth our second rounder but we will get him for our third

A third rounder would be about right. After watching 3 SA games at the Championships (and taking the blinkers off) he is certainly a capable team player but not a game-breaker. Would love the club to draft Caleb Daniel who was by far the best player in the last 2 games. Although only small he is a game-breaker and never wastes a possession..He is much better than Stretch. In fact I would not rate Stretch in the top 5 SA players overall.

Caleb Daniel would be ready to play next year whereas Stretch may take 3 years to have any sort of impact.

fwiw, emma quayle believes we'll be using a third rounder on him.

I think she may be wrong on that one. Someone will punt we will take him with our 2nd round, especially a SA club, who would probably be happy to have him if we declined.

But our second round pick will be before theirs, they will need to nominate him with their first Round pick to force our hand with our second round pick.

Well that is my understanding of the rules, if they nominate we have to use our next pick after theirs

Clubs will rate all the players in the draft. If there is a club that rates Billy before our second pick we'll have to use it. There won't be any "punting" by a club. Why would they risk getting a kid they don't rate as highly as others just to stop us getting a bit of a steal with Billy? Can you imagine us doing it to another club? I can imagine the response on here. We got a kid we didn't rate as highly as others to stop (say Bulldogs) getting a bit of a steal in round 3. That would be madness.

We'll get Billy as a result of where he's genuinely rated by others.

For what it's worth, and I don't watch much junior footy, in the match yesterday there was a bit to like about Billy. Ran to good spots, very clean hands, good composure, good decisions, quick and apparently has a motor. Kicking seemed ok. But it was his hands that impressed me.

mmmmm.....food finishing skills

Question, If the MFC was worried about losing a second round pick for Billy, Could we trade that pick (like we did last year for bernie) and take that option off the table?

I know this is a typo but at the same time when it comes to Morton (and possibly Toumpas) the inability of our outside players to put on weight and strength whilst maintaining their fitness has been a problem.

From what I saw of Stretch yesterday it looks like he'll be skinny but with a frame that's capable of beefing up over time.

Hey, if we trade all of our picks away this year and next year can we take Billy in the 2016 draft as a mature aged 4th round F/S?

Poor humour, I know....

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
