Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Two first round pick, one of which goes to GC for May and I'd imagine KK.  No way May would be worth a top 10 pick by himself.  Darcy wouldn't go with it if he had any doubt and Jones certainly wasn't refuting it.

Unfortunately GC would stand to get a top 5 pick for may if he left next year under free agency... so they may play hard ball. I personally dont want him that badly, but MFC seem very keen

So on the return match, will the members boo him, or applaud him ....

Applaud him... he tried to stick it out.. went to the [censored] and back and saw a chance to cash in.

I’m nervous that Mahoney and Co are not going there drive a hard bargain.

If we lose Hogan for May and chump change that will be a seriously disappointing outcome.

It must be May and either a very good pick or a very good starting 22 player.

I want May but no way is he of equal value to Hogan, not to mention the fact that we have the whip hand over Fremantle.

Like many Demon supporters I will be watching on with keen critical interest as to how shrewdly we negotiate this. We traditionally have not been renowned for coming out on the winning side of trade table deals. A few yes but more often than not we’ve been the ones picking up the dropped soap in the prison shower.

I hope those days are over.

FFS - they've demonstrated numerous times over numerous years, that they are shrewd operators. You'd almost think supporters assume they don't know how to handle negotiations....

Best of luck Jesse.

I think he will struggle for 1-2 years at freo and then will boom into an absolute star.

I think he was always going to go home at some stage. Strange that he got through all of the [censored] to jump ship now...

His head clearly isnt in the right space in melbourne and fingers crossed he can maximize his potential in WA.

We shall see.

They’ve also balls’d up a fair few. We have every reason to lean hard on Freo here. That’s not being faux tough it’s just the way the cards are stacked. In our favour.

Worst moment as a demons supporter in my lifetime. Two firsts isn't enough. 9 and 10 is a joke of a trade for a player of his quality. We have been smashed again. Worse than the Scully trade.

I hate football.

Yes, this is also about May and the club working towards improving the list.

It's one thing to say that we can play Hogan as a defender and another for the proud forward to actually want to play as a defender.

McDonald, Hogan and Weideman in the same forward half simply doesn't work, whereas May coming into our defence is significant to our fortunes.  Weideman's progression is key in all of this.  The club has always rated him highly and his ability to take contested marks and be BOG in a final would give the club confidence that we can make the best of an unwanted situation.

I don't think we win the flag in 2019 with a defence that includes Frost and McDonald.  A defence that includes May and McDonald is much better equipped to take that next level.  And with Lever back Gawn will be able to push forward more next year rather than drift back to intercept mark.

The club will be doing everything to ensure Hogan leaving actually makes us better.  May is worth one first rounder and Hogan should yield two.  Does the club take the other pick to the draft or use it for more immediate gains.

I'm a Hogan fan, but it is possible we improve from his leaving.

I think they have described themselves more as being realists rather than shrewd which is how they dealt with the charge that giving away two draft picks early to get Jake Lever might have been “overs”.  They are now in the exact opposite situation where they hold all of the cards and the Dockers want to snare a big fish. Let’s see how shrewd they are now.

Really gutted to hear that, but fully respect and understand Jesse's predicament and desire to go home.

We will no doubt get a great return, but from a long-term perspective, I cannot see us coming out of this trade winning (unless we win a premiership in the next five/ten years obviously). He is going to be an absolute star. However, I guess you could argue that for him to become that star, he needs to be where his heart is and that is obviously in Perth.

Wish him all the best and would hope that no one would  boo him - he has been a great player for our club and it is important to remember, life is just bigger than footy.

Still clinging onto some glimmer of hope that he may decide to stay, but if not, good luck at Freo.

Sad to see him go, especially considering he is far from playing his best footy thus far in his career.

But it's hard to ignore we've played our best footy without him in the team both this year and some of last year.

We will adapt without him,  and if we manage to bring in a gorilla tamer like May as part of the deal, which we've lacked for an eternity, not to mention the return of Lever, we will be well positioned for a tilt at a flag next year.

It's a fair point @rumpole in that change of language, and on reflection I would agree.

Further to that, is how the MFC operate in the trading speculation process. Personally, I love that we operate the anthesis of North Melbourne, in that nothing comes out of the club until the media release.

Love it when the  last train to Clarkesville suddenly becomes the 5.15 to Upfield !!

I commend that discussion has embraced the wotif factor but surely the only scenario that holds any water is that he goes back to the western coast .  Otherwise...why is he leaving ? Granted ....you can be mercenary anywhere  but I truly dont think thats his motive so much as the icing on an idea he's harboured for some time.

meanwhile...Flinders St !!! all change

agreed blzbb...

WE forget about his mother.... and family.   They will have a big say i'm sure, in Jessie's thinking. not necessary west.  But it's looking like a fresh start to me, for sure.

This, precisely.

On the one hand I still think a 3-tall forward line can work if done right and given the diversity of the three talls we'd have.

On the other hand, in a 'pressure and weight-of-effort' game style there's always room for another small-medium player on the field and we have a great stock of options to pick from there.

It's all ok. Not joyful, but it is ok.

Reliably told Jesse has

A. Formally asked to be traded to Fremantle.

B. The dockers have agreed in principal to 2 first round picks this year for hogan

will be either 6 &10 or 9&10 and an exchange of later picks. Some haggling to go on there.

Steven may looking all but certain to join in exchange for one of those picks. I suspect kk will be involved in that deal.

apologies if this news is already known, I haven’t been able to keep track on this thread.

At the same time pragmatism must surely enter this fray. There is much to do during the circus visit  and you dont want to finesse it tooo much for fear of missing a bus or two. I have every faith we'll get whats reasonable.. More the point I have faith we'll get the players we're targeting. Thats all that really matters...the numbers attached to picks  is all but irrelevant to us

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
