Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Who do we realistically target for a trade?

Can only be a free agent of some sort as we have no currency to trade with. No first rounders, no future picks (can’t trade two future picks in consecutive years), no surplus star players or star players wanting to leave.

The list is limited. I would say Gaff is our target and beyond that we will to pick draft gems again and perhaps a backup ruck, although no ruck struggling to get a game at another club will want to come play for us (get a game ahead of Gawn will you?!)

That’s why I’m thinking an experienced VFL ruckman, they’d jump at the chance.

In order of my preference we have been ‘linked’ with the following so far this year: Gaff, Dahlhaus, Polec, Beams, Langdon, Taylor

When were we linked with Dahlhaus, Polec, Beams and Taylor?

Arent they just names thrown up for discussion? Hope you’re right though

I'm all for Dahlhaus.  Hard at it, quick. Not sure he will leave the digs though.

Dahlhaus let Gus off the leásh. a couple of times yesterday which cost the dogs big time. May be a bit too unaccountable for us. Hîs good play is pretty good though.

perhaps at the right price.

Most media has speculated we ‘might’ be interested in him as he’s a free agent and we have no first rounder to trade to being in a player

(FWIW I tend to think he’s worth about what a Melksham or a Hibberd - or a Tyson? - might be worth, which is a mid to high second / low third round pick)

The thing about Dahlhaus is that he's been there before. If we can land him through FA and not take up too much of the cap, it'd be a coup if we can couple him with Gaff as well. All of a sudden in 2019 we have outside talent in Gaff, Dahlhaus, Fritsch, Hunt and even Stretch (who showed promising signs the other week).

For mine, outside of FAs in Gaff and Dahlhaus, I'd be really keen to get a mature aged ruckman (a plug and play) on the list to support Max.

Think outside the box...look for up and comers on the fringe at other clubs, don't just recycle the same names.

Trade our not getting a games or what we have surplus of & trade for needs...

Look to trade in to the first round with a package of players.

I would look at Jayden Short. Might get squeezed out of Richmond.

Yep, I'd certainly be picking through Richmond's list for a zippy small forward. We really only have Jeffy that has genuine leg speed. If we could get a Richmond want-away for a 3rd rounder, I'd do it.

Gotta say the Gaff was brilliant on the weekend. Dahlhaus has potential, McGovern is a high quality defender as I don’t think Omac is going to make it. We don’t want Lever playing on the guerilla types, we need him playing with freedom to zone off, his best form at the Crows was always with Talila in the same team.

Not massive on Gaff, but he can do what 95% of our list appear incapable of doing, and that is hitting a target. Gaff definitely fits a need. I was leaning towards not trading for him, and ideally we wouldn't, but as the weeks go by, it wouldn't be the worst thing we could do. Thankfully we cannot trade 2 future firsts in a row, so I am confident we cannot stuff up our future (trading future first round picks away for blokes with ACL histories) anymore than we already have. If we do get Gaff and have to trade for him then I suspect it will be because we move on players - which I am 110% fine with (so long as we don't move on Brayshaw).

How many midfielders would love to work with Max...

On the contrary SWYL, players' who like a challenge would be turned off by this, as Max would be making it all too easy for them by continually palming it down their throats.

I think it’s been mentioned before, but I don’t believe you have to trade anything for a restricted free agent (just have to make him an offer which WC can elect to match thus effectively locking him in at WC) or unrestricted free agent. (I could be wrong though?)

"But Gaff’s status as a free agent has drawn greater interest this year – free agents can be recruited without a costly trade – although as a restricted free agent, the Eagles would have the option of matching any bid and forcing a trade should he choose to leave". - Sydney Morning Herald.

So we would not have to trade anything, unless Eagles are willing to match our offer at which point it would be upto us if we wanted to throw a trade into the mix which I would image we would not/could not. It all comes down to whether the Eagles can or want to match out offer. If they don’t, trading picks doesn’t come into it.

I think its been tragic we havent been able to develop another quality second string ruck at Casey in the time Max has beeen developing

should have 2 or 3 devloping prospects  in work at the moment Shoild be part of an overall strategy

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
