Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

You have to admit...it's pretty funny really. The guy (Clarkson) who has been exposing our players physically for the last 10 plus years licks his chops when this game comes around.

More inside 50's, more contested possessions, and completely [censored] our pants when we get the ball and have pressure applied. We didn't look like scoring because even though we have the talent to win contests we can be pressured out of creating opportunities to score.

At least the fans will get the benefit of our players being laughed at for the next 9 days...we might get something genuine from then for 120 next Tuesday....who knows though.

Wiseblood, you are probably the most optimistic poster so that shows how big the problem is. Fairly sure it was you who said they weren't worried at half time?

Smart teams are always going to expose us on the rebound. Our backline and structure is rubbish. Lever has made us worse.

It was.  I'm not worried as such, I think frustration was the overriding emotion for most of the day.  But to watch us put the cue in the rack the way we did was the thing that got me worried.

Lever has made us worse because we don't know how to use him properly.  I say we, but it's really on Goodwin.  Teams know how Lever plays and they're doing everything they can to drag him away from the play.  We can fix it, but it's clearly going to take a little time.

What I want to see is a response.  Alright, we've been done by 10 goals today in an embarrassing performance.  What are we going to do about it?  Will we do the same things again next week and let Richmond put us to the sword, or will we make some changes to both personnel and the game plan, and look to fix up some of our issues?

It's going to be a long 8 days ahead...

Fig, that was disappointing.

Every one of our bottom end players played like one, and I include Kent in that.

First time a Goodwin MFC team has put the cue in the rack. Had forgotten how disgusting this feeling is. Forced myself to watch the last 15 minutes. Don't even know why.

Going to have a quiet sook to myself tonight I think.

Quoted for truth.

As I was walking out of the MCG last week Nathan Jones was saying over the PA that we will have ups and downs this year. To me that attitude means they don't have belief in themselves, today proved that. You can't win unless you believe you can.

Problems are actually simple, we have no idea how to play in the wet, and no plan b.

The players spent half the day looking frustrated because our game plan needs it to be dry and we have no wet day game plan.

Out coached, which made us out classed.

Need to weed out the mentally week players.

That was being discussed when poor bailey was coach.  Nothing has changed.

I really hope this is a wake up call. Just because you play one good quarter, you’re not invincible. Time to lick our wounds and regroup.

Only “positives” I can take out of this game is selfish ones for myself.

1. I didn’t make a dare if I lose with this one.

2. I’ll be out of the country tomorrow so I can take my mind off it.

3. Don’t have to face the laughing coworkers at work Monday.

Our backline is putrid and we desperately need that second tall in the forward line.

Lever seems to have completely upset the balance we had last year.

Our defense went to [censored] when Roos left. Goodwin is the one who has ruined our balance. This handball at all costs and bomb it long is his plan. It’s been happening for over a year now and even after a whole pre season nothing has changed.

For once we have the list to at the very list play finals, but we don’t have the coaching staff. Typical.

Things are never as good or as bad as they seem. Today was poor execution and no spread or clean stoppages against a well drilled side. If thats the loss we have to have to drop Lewis, Bugg, Harmes and play another tall forward then so be it. I am disappointed in the game but more interested in the response at both selection and against the best drilled team in the comp on Anzac eve.

Has anyone maybe considered they have over rated our list?

If Goodwin had any murmuring doubts about his own coaching ability post the Rnd 23 Collingwood game then they would be positively yelling at him now. Two appalling losses in the past 5 games. Two much talent on this list for him not to make finals

Could not agree more!!

Then we have the 'press' that leaves us susceptible to goals out the back, which we gave up ad nauseum today.  When we get the ball in our forward half we push numbers forward to do everything we can to keep it there.  When we don't, the opposition is just a couple of handballs away from getting out the back and it's goodnight from there.

This is why I was concerned at half time and we did nothing in the 2nd half to address it.

I can only hope the players have a serious reality check and realise why the problems are. A lot of work to do.

Deplorable performance. No upside. Well,  other than the fact that I put $40 on Poos & Wees at the ridiculous odds of $2.20, so I won $44.

Disgraceful. Wasted an afternoon watching that soulless, clueless, insipid, unskilled "performance".

I'm regretting buying 2 reserved seats for the Anzac eve match. It will be carnage.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
