I have a theory that Hogan is vital up forward when we don't have momentum and we can only bomb it in under enormous pressure, but when we have the momentum, Hogan in the middle is better as a linking target who can take a grab. Goodwin is starting to use him in the middle and I think we play better that way, especially if we have a recognised ruckman in so Pederson and watts can play as forwards.

I agree with it, [censored] them off and give it to Essendon. If the Daniher/MND legacy continues it means more to us and Essendon. 

The fact that we get the gate every year doesn't sit well with me anymore either. I know we need it, but it should alternate.

I was surprised to read that we won the centre clearances so convincingly and came out even in clearances overall. Not a bad effort by the 'worst' midfield in the competition against the 'best' midfield.

Upon watching the replay. Despite winning the tackle count, I thought we missed a lot of tackles today. There were plenty of tackles that got broken and a few where we had them corralled but just didn't put the tackle on and gave them an 'out'. At the very least we should be able to put a smother on. I think Maynard put on two smothers on Salem and melksham and its something we should be doing more.

Not trying to be negative but if we can fine tune these things to our game, we'll make it easier for ourselves.

Well fella, it's moments like today why we come to the football. We are as passionate as the bloke next door, it's an escape from the real world and we live in the moment. Yes, you have seen your team win a grand final, most of us have not but we will continue to scream, cheer and hug the stranger sitting next to us and maybe our day will come.

The noise in the last quarter was simply incredible, it's been a long time since I heard that much noise from us. Take a bow Melbourne fans, you willed your team over the line today. I'm still out of breath and my heart hasn't slowed one bit since leaving the ground.

What a win. I'd say that's our second best win of the year (behind the obvious Adelaide result): big crowd, played poorly for large parts of the game, minus Gawn and Hogan, the winner jumps into 6th, the loser has a very tough road ahead. But we held it all together and managed to hold on. I haven't felt as elated after a win in a long time. It's winning those close ones.

Thought it was a terrific effort from Goodwin and co to turn things in the second half and for such a young team to respond as they did is very exciting.

Oliver's third quarter was insane. The kid is a genius. Oscar started off slowly but by the end of the game was in our top 2 or 3 players. He was a rock. Clever little kick from him into the path of Harmes for Watts' sealer too. Petracca got the accolades and as I said to my old man during his ordinary first quarter and a bit, he is going to be that mercurial player that bobs up with a moment or two to turn the game. Sure enough, he did in that second quarter to keep us in touch.

Had a couple of scum supporters in front of me from Brighton, given the botox in the faces of the ladies and their husbands wanted to punch my block off, but couldn't reach due to the 6'6ness of me. Loved giving it to them in the end. Some will say it's bad sport, others will say stick it right up 'em.

Go the bloody redlegs.

This seems to be an increasingly familiar refrain for may supporters of Melbourne based clubs of late, as least that I've encountered, even amongst friends who support other clubs. I mean, I can see where they're coming from and/or why they might think that. But to me it also smacks a bit of the chubby kid who got picked on a high school, and has come back from summer holidays looking sharp and some don't know how deal with it. Unfamiliarity can be scary to some.

Goodwin again changed things up at half time and got the result.

His move of Tommy Mac into the ruck helped shift the midfield battle back to us after we were annihilated in the first half.

We have a very proactive coach...not afraid to try something different.

We've got a good one in Goodwin.

Just watched the replay.

Collingwood fans would have to be kidding themselves blaming the umps. We got some lucky decisions in the last 2 minutes but other than that we were robbed of several holding the ball calls which were then rebounded and resulted in the Collingwood goals.

My first impressions were that Tyson was pretty good but he made some bad kicking errors in the last quarter.

Salem a good 2nd half.

Melksham really average, but a nice goal.

Watts dropped so many easy marks but kept at it and came up big when it mattered. 

Garlett was epic, some of his defensive running to shutdown the Collingwood mids was crucial.

Grundy is average, just hack kicks it out the ruck overtime he grabs it.

Was thinking to myself early, why have we chosen Omac over Dunn. Then Dunn gave us an arm chop and panicked next to the boundary for a deliberate. There were 3 instances where he crapped himself next to the boundary line, a deer in the headlights. Then Oscar lifted.

Howe was great and hard to pass at times.

Loved that Oliver was always looking forward this week.

Hunt was really poor, can't remember him hitting a target and was not clean with his hands, dropped marks and handballs several times. Can't fault his endeavour though and at least he runs 20m then kicks it 50.
