  1. He may not be our best player, but he's arguably out most irreplaceable player. I can't think of a small forward that would be on the market that kicks 45 goals a season with the tricks and defensive pressure that Kozzie provides. At least with Jackson departing we got a readily replaceable player with a chip on his shoulder and hopefully a point to prove. It will be a set back for 2024 if he does end up departing.

  2. The 2002 Semifinal vs Adelaide was probably the craziest game I've been to, even though we lost. Travis Johnstone and that 3rd quarter were something else.

  3. I think Kozzy has become one of my favorite players for a long time, not just because of his talent, but i think he generates excitement within the supporter base like few have, I'm going back to the Wiz, Jurrah, Jako days. A player that when he gets within 20m of the ball you end up watching him as much as you watch teh play. Kids love him, the players love him, the club love shim. I hop ewe do everything to keep him, i fear its going to be a battle, only because he has not signed yet, but that's pessimism only. I truly think if he decides to sign on, may only be 2 years, it would give that entire place a lift. He is that important in my opinion. I know that no one is bigger than the club and we would survive if he left, be compensated and all that, but culturally, i think he shapes as one of the biggest signatures to secure for a while. Seriously cant wait for footy season now, out in straight sets should be a very sour taste in players mouths, windows dont stay open forever, we have to bounce back strong, and i am certain we will.

  4. I must have some real problems then. The filth is undoubtedly my number one team that I despise (particularly from a supporter base perspective). I find it hard to seperate Carlscum and Essendrug as the next on the list, very interchangeable . Too many teams in my third tier hate list so I’ll leave it at that. I know it a very traditional ‘hate’ list but I’ve been around for a while and feel very comfortable with my take on this, my views have not really changed all that much over the decades.

  6. I'm surprised that posters were unfamiliar with the words termagant and harridan. They were in common usage in 19th century writing and before. The Victorian and part of the Edwardian eras must have been wonderful times. In moments of bliss, I imagine myself as a disgustingly rich mill or factory owner, abusing my power in the most dissolute ways. Arrh what might have been!

  7. - Carlton miss the finals again in the same fashion as last season. - Kozzie signs on early in the season (loves the club, hates the city of Melbourne is what #ETthetradewhisperer™️ is hearing). - Bounce back and win some finals.

  8. 1. Kozzie to Sign as soon as possible. 2. Dockers to have a Shocker. 3. Fritta to release his Allen Jakovich, never handball and kick for goal anytime he's inside 50.

  9. Matthews was a violence adherent onfield, yet still, he remains in my memories as one of the top 5 players to grace the game, for a variety of 'other reasons', of course. He seldom stood toe-to-toe with his onfield adversaries, selectively going the bash with an unexpecting physical lesser. Assault is the accurate term - I just wish he'd run into Biffin once or twice, or the intolerant-of-that-type-of-behaviour in Rodney the Grinter.

  11. I dont have a problem with those big clubs. Its Geelong and Hawthorn i loathe. Mathews illegally smashed more of our players than i can count but never got reported. Hawthorn killed us time and time again. Geelong are the most entitled priveleged club in the AFL . The media adhore them. Mathews should have been ' bashed' in the carpark at Princess Park after what he did to Peter Giles . Absolute coward Mathews. Giles never saw it coming.

  20. Correct. The Crows have invested in Rankine and Rachele so I can't see why they would go after Kozzie and have to give away a lot to get him. Kane Cornes agenda is always about Port and they do need small pressure fwds...as well as other positional players :-) But Port would need to give up similar or better to the Rankine deal. The Suns got pick 5, a future third and fourth round selection.

  23. Over 500 views but only one correct answer and very few attempts. C'est la vie. I thought that last clue would make it obvious that all the players in my team share a surname with a bass guitarist. The meaning behind each clue: 1. The answer looks fishy. A type of fish is the bass which looks the same (but is pronounced differently). 2. Usually 4 - but not always. Bass guitars usually have four strings, but sometimes have five or six. 3. Fred BASSet cartoon. 4. Perks. Former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman was born Bill Perks but changed his name. 5. Jason McCartney. A blatant nod to Beatle Paul McCartney who played bass in the band. Here now is the team with the bass players' names: B: Ron Carter Bootsy Collins Ray Brown H/B: Dee Murray Dave Holland Donald 'Duck' Dunn C: Kim Gordon Mike Mills Bruce Thomas H/F: Willie Dixon Mark King Lewis Johnson F: Cliff Burton Jack Bruce Geezer Butler R: Geddy Lee Marcus Miller John Paul Jones I/C: Esperanza Spalding Berry Oakley Stu Cook Stanley Clarke

  25. Yeah good pick up. Walter is a top 3 pick atm and hes destined for the suns. If your scenario worked out then we would jump significantly securing a top 10 pick. I wouldn't want to give up both picks in 2023 though as it's such a strong draft.

  26. I just watched the second half of that match again. We got killed by the umpires, Kozzie missed two shots he should never ever have missed, yet with a minute to go, we were a real chance. The way I and everyone else on Demonland has reacted, it was a disaster and we were hopeless. Sure, we all wanted to win the premiership and believed we could, but we played a team which had been highly predicted to be the premiers themselves , and had every chance to win it, and it was an extremely close and exciting game. I have never been as optimistic coming into a season as I am for 2023. I think Grundy and Gawn will be incredible together. People say that Oliver is “one of the best midfielders in the competition”. Rubbish. He is hands down the best, not “one of the best”. Petracca is one of the best. Viney is one of the best. We have the best defence in the league, two of the best wingers, and we all hope we will now have a functional forward line. I can’t wait!

  35. A fully fit and in-form Salem would be a big lift for the side. Really important player for us when firing. I feel he never really got going in 2022 like in 21. At least Trac was pretty awsome at the start of the season and even then in patches after he was apparently carrying an injury.

  36. I don’t care how many champions we have, my concern is that if we come back with the same game plan as last year - particularly our forward structure and entries - then we will be lucky to make the eight this year.

  40. The pressure will be on Goodwin in the first 6-8 weeks to have us looking like the late 2021/early 2022 model with some tweaks. If we look like the mid to late 2022 model the pressure will rise pretty quickly. Our list is too good for the 6 win 8 loss way we finished the season and I suggest there will be little patience to waste the premiership window we have.

  43. 21 year old who moved interstate for work at 18, lost his Mum and his family are all in other states with his strongest connection in SA. Hasn't re-signed yet and despite the club saying he loves Melbourne I haven't as yet seen anything mentioned about talks progressing (might have missed that somewhere though). Not saying he will go, personally I think he'll stay, but add the above to the rumblings of media types with Port connections and you can understand why supporters are a little worried and think it's a chance.

  45. Cant stand Geelong. How many key dees players have they recklessly injured in recent years. Viney smashed jaw, White almost killed with a vicious kick to the head and Oliver this year. All at the cattery i think. No reports of course.

  46. I've just come across the original ABC article re the allegations and reading this I've been way off the mark in suggesting the coaching staff don't have much to answer for. Previously I'd read comments from other articles in isolation (which don't really provide any context) but the ABC Sport interviews with the families paint a disturbing picture that is difficult enough to read, let alone experience. For anyone like me who hadn't previously read the ABC Sport article it paints quite a detailed picture of the allegations from the players and families perspectives, noting the content is quite distressing. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-09-21/alastair-clarkson-and-chris-fagan-named-in-hawks-review/101452320 The most disturbing part of this is the seemingly preemptive, systematic approach described in the players stories of separating young First Nations players from their families. E.g. this doesn't look like an isolated incident of a young player having poor habits and getting into a bit of trouble and the club acting to provide a stable environment. Anyway, I was very wrong on this and this will send shockwaves through the league. I think the players have done the right thing in going public as the allegations are serious to the extent that the AFL investigation would have been compromised before it started. if I am to be fully honest I am disappointed with you Demonlander's for not getting stuck into me properly for having a poorly formed opinion on something I clearly didn't do the requisite ground work.

  47. Been an ok game for his so far. He is on the “other” wing and playing fairly wide. Has run all day and has good acceleration. I don’t think he does much unrewarded running though. He doesn’t strike me as a winger - more an actual midfielder. He loves the dont argue and does take the game on. Good decision maker and yes his kicking might need a bit of work (but the kicking today has been horrid). Absolutely will be drafted, no question there. But is feeling a second rounder. I think that maybe at Oakleigh he’ll be able to show his strengths in and under next year, but this role is not doing him any favours.
