Tomahawk is known for his ability to take on the forward pocket ruck duels for the Cats and for initiating or kicking goals as a result. His strike rate is excellent and I'm not talking about the same form of striking that you're thinking about. JvR did help out in the ruck this year at Casey but the fact that he's doing it at preseason training against the likes of G & G suggests that he might be called upon to do that this year - hopefully at the higher level. I wouldn't be expecting TMac to do any ruckwork because of the history he has with his foot.

The rest of the world should be thankful that Football is not our primary game, otherwise I reckon we'd win 1 in 3...

A - rookie draftees added: Sestan and Verrall Games played has been updated. Chandler is now officially a senior player. A new addition to the chart is the 2023 draft picks of which we have 2 x F1 and 2 x F2. Time to death ride Freo all the way in 2023. !!! Assuming the 2022 mix of Senior/A-rookie players, we have no senior spots and 1 A-rookie spots. However the club can change this mix to what is allowed if it wants to add a senior player eg a DFA ala Dunstan last year. Otherwise we keep the 1 A-rookie spots for the SSP and mid season draft or not fill our quota of 42 players. Quite a talented list of potential 'Milestone' games in the 2023 H & A season: 200: Hibberd, May, Gawn, Grundy 150: Neal Bullen, Harmes, Langdon, Lever, Salem, Brayshaw, Oliver 100: Spargo If 150 games is the 'sweet spot' for an AFL player at their peak, we are there!! In terms of 2023 contract renewals the potential outcomes are: Retirements: Hibberd, Melksham Non-renewals: Dunstan Trades if requested: Jordon, Neal Bullen. Note: Both are Unrestricted FA's so they could go to a club of their choice and we take the AFL compensation pick. New contracts for most of the other players, particularly Rivers. Haven’t read all the comments. A few point. Soccer is the most popular game in the world simply its easy to get started, just kick a round ball, toddlers do that, and can be played anywhere, in the street outside. Popular does not always make something the best, music proves that :) Plus history of European control introduced the game in lots of places, then has come the huge money for a tiny minority of players. Crowds, in many places like the UK, soccer replaced tribal warfare (Competition between towns etc) between different groups, the second and I think the most important is the make up the crowds. This has been studied by European soccer and they can’t find a solution. Most AFL crowds are generally 50/50 male/female and it also includes lots of kids, soccer is not. This creates a totally different atmosphere and expectation. Until this aspect changes across leagues the problems like this will appear from time to time As for those that went onto the pitch, what if they banned them from all levels of soccer involvement for life that includes junior footy. I reckon that would have more impact on behaviour than just banning them from the A-leguae. Plus it removes their attitude from the development years. From what I heard on TV, it was supposed to be a walkout at 20minutes to protest the finals being held in Sydney.

I think it's important to note that the ruck duels that both JVR and Schache were given the daunting task of going up against Gawn and Grundy were boundary throw in drills. Despite the fact that these throw ins were initiated from the back flack area the tutelage was no doubt for the work they will have to do in the forward pocket against A and B grade rucks. TMac and Brown were not involved in these same drills. No doubt JVR and Schache are initially being given the Weid role and will work up from there.

Maxy, a living legend ... great leader. I had a strong impression earlier, having read his book at the end of the Premiership achievement, that he really cares about the team, its individual components, and sets examples and marques of behaviour, and thereby, links components of the MFC to these standards. All these matters are achieved with humility, thoughtful care and observable benchmarks. The team has only benefitted from his extensive inputs and examples.

I'm a Melbourne Victory member and a Melbourne Demons member. Not going to enter the "soccer is boring" discourse, it's a subjective topic, i love it, some don't. I was at the game on the weekend, what happened was appalling and is rightly being condemned and MV will be punished as they should. I've witnessed violence in the stands at multiple sporting codes (A-League, AFL, Tennis etc) but this was different and it's heartbreaking as a lover of the game and sport in general to be honest.

Of the 6 premiership players OOC this year the one I'm keen to see signed is Kozzie. My guess is: May will get a short extension likely on less $ Hibberd will most likely reitire Jordon is an UFA so can look for opportunities elsewhere and probably will if he doesn't get regular game time. ANB plays an important role but at some point we need to develop someone that can replace him Rivers is important but we have others to step in. While it would be good to keep the premiership list together, I feel some need to move on to refresh the team and make room for those pushing for selection at Casey. imv we would be fine if any of the last four or even all four, moved on. On the bright side none of them would be re-contracted on big $ so the sal cap isn't really an issue on keeping them. Kozzie is the one!

I’m a sports enthusiast. I can pass the time watching most sports other than some obscure Olympic sports like curling. Baseball is another that I can’t get into. seems odd to be grousing on a sport if you don’t like it. When it comes to soccer I think people are threatened by it. It’s the world game and with proper oversight can grow much bigger in Australia. It won’t displace AFL, there is room for both in my opinion.

Old Haileybury's premiership triumph continues the club's rise through the ranks under Daniel Ward's tutelage. Stefan Martin hasn't pulled on the boots again post his AFL retirement but Jack Lonie (ex-saints) did. Young Kye Turner does get a number of mentions in dispatches. Watching this space with interest.
