  1. Mitch brown 20 disposals and 13 marks.. this is the guy who was out of the side all season when we have been crying out for a big forward. Our selection committee is pure rubbish.

  2. Good: Brown. He's Pederson mk 2 - not particularly talented, but always gives it everything, and played a blinder today. 13 Marks. Wow. Bad: Melksham. How he made it through the year without getting dropped is staggering.

  5. If we make the 8, we deserve to play finals. If we miss, we don't. Why do the Dogs deserve it any more than we do if they lose to Fremantle and finish the season with a worse record than us? Carlton finished 9th in 2013 and still beat Richmond who finished 5th. Then nearly won the semi final the following week. You never know.

  6. Geez we are a hard team to love. But love them I do

  7. Well, we won. Only played one good quarter but, to be fair, it was a good quarter. As bad as the fourth quarter was, our core players stood up in the final 5 minutes to get the last two steadying goals. Really impressed with Hunt's game, 4 goals a good reward. Gawn, Oliver, Salem, Petracca and Langdon all played really well. Weideman's stats won't show it but I thought his workrate was good and he created opportunities for us. No idea what Melksham adds to the side. Smith was towelled up by Stewart, he's just not a defender but he gets by because of May, Lever, Salem and Hibberd.

  8. We have really cruelled Jayden this year. My feeling was that he didn't do that much wrong in the games he was dropped and then we didn't give him a look in for weeks and weeks even though our forward line wasn't functioning that well. He must be very jealous of all the opportunities that Kossie has been given this year for some pretty mega performances at times. Hunt was one of our best goal kickers last season in a dog of a year and he has been one of our most dangerous again this year in the games he's played. Doesn't shirk the hard stuff, takes a good mark and is one of our better kicks for goal. For all his courage and skill, Fritsch's goal kicking from set shots this year has been putrid. We would have rocks in our head not to do what we can to retain Hunt.

  9. Why would anyone post that? He wasn't on Daniher. He gave up 3 goals to Stewart. And gave up a shocking handball turnover in the middle of the ground, and otherwise gave us nothing. Was just a bad game from someone who shouldn't be playing IMO.

  10. Viney - set the tone he cracked in harder than anyone in the first and tackled like a maniac. The first half could have been very different without him setting the example of intensity *i am aware of his failings

  11. What an uninspiring end to the season. We don't deserve to play finals. Not only is there a mental fragility to this group, but Goodwin can't get them going. Fancy needing to play one good quarter of footy, going into three quarter time with a handy lead and then the running stops and we go safely down the line. If it's not the players naturally going into their shells, it's Goodwin's coaching. It was such a typical facile Melbourne performance. Petracca, Oliver, Langdon, May, Lever, Salem and Hunt were great. Fritsch struggled to finish off the good work up ahead of him and it almost cost us the game, until he finally finished off the goal from 10m out. Loved the few glimpses of Kozzie today. He just had a little bit more cleanness that was noticeable. Rivers is fast becoming one of my favourites. Not only does he show great composure for a guy who's played 9 games, but he brings the tackle pressure. That tackle at a crucial moment basically won us the game. Our outside run in combination with their lack of defensive set up was good for three quarters. Our tackle pressure in the first half was really good and then dropped away, as if we couldn't be bothered, and as if we know that the Dogs will win tomorrow. I think I've seen enough now. If the club wants to sack Goodwin, I'll back them. We have enough good players, but the team as a whole switches off and when it's not allowed to play the game on its own terms all of a sudden within games, our guys don't know what to do. We've managed to eventually get games on our terms that have started by not being on our terms, but if we lead a game and then the opposition makes changes, we don't know how to counter it by trusting our system. Max talked about 'maturity' at the end of the game. That wasn't maturity. We completely went away from trusting the system and almost lost the game. I think we need changes.

  12. Eddie McGuire has to be the worst commentator of all time. His job is to call the play. Instead we get a combination of cheering for the underdog, umpire bashing, expert analysis, lame Collingwood references, and snide remarks to an entire supporter base. Every time he's on. He can [censored] right off.

  16. Despite Goodwin trying to kill his career, Hunt showed today his talent and ability to kick goals. But what was more impressive was his pace and at the contest. Great game and we must keep Jayden Hunt.

  17. Good result, bon voyage season 2020. Was nice to go out with a win, can already hear the freedom fighters about to lash out and scream "it's not over yet!", yeah an early xmas present from Freo would be fantastic but we've done all we can for now. I love these games where Gawn just makes the other ruckman look like they shouldn't have even turned up. Jayden Hunt take a bow, I think we can all agree that's exactly how we'd love to see him play just running the lines and getting into good positions to be on the end of thrusts forward. Christian Salem, what a sterling performance to cap off a great season, some of his kicks out of tight spaces were just sublime. Ed Langdon another good stint, I just want him to take off every time he gets it now! The real difference this year is undoubtedly the back line. We all had out hearts in a mouths as we are so accustomed to now late in that last quarter when the Bombers were winning every contested ball for some reason but they really held firm despite all those entries. How good is it to feel safe in the knowledge that they can throw a bit at us but we've usually got it covered down there! A lot of talk about Joel Smith, honestly I can't see enough on TV to know if he's doing his role well. I just think he lacks the smarts to be that defender, 1 on 1 he's not bad but it be great if he could be a rebounder as well which it doesn't look like he is. Liked Mitch Brown's game and was unlucky not to convert early on, you can easily see his routine is miles ahead of Fritsch's when kicking for goal. Speaking of which this is just too big of a problem now for Bayley. He is a very cleaver player and he gets in all the right positions but my word he needs to convert better, the guy could be anything. Oskar Baker has shown me enough over 2 games to suggest he's worth working with. He runs and runs and with a bit more smart running he could easily be that other wing. Undecided on whether I'll watch tomorrow, not that keen for another Sunday to be torched but knowing me I probably will. Well done to everyone for sticking with us this year it's been like no other and at least it's been nice to have the trusty faithful here to discuss with each week. Carn the Dees and Freo, give em the old heave ho will you? Cheers.

  18. Finished fifth in our goalkicking from 6 games. I think he adds something to our side, can be dangerous with his speed and has a good leg. I don’t recall anyone other than Tracc kicking 4 in a game this year either.

  29. Shout out to Nibbler for his goal in the second. well deserved for keeping his eyes on the ball as the defender was running towards him flat out. Would have been shirt fronted in the 80’s, but was really brave of him I thought.

  30. Last week did a good job on Haynes. Today beating an AA candidate in Ridley. This isn't a poor player whose goalkicking is the icing on the [censored] cake, he's just goalkicking away from being a B+ to A grader.

  34. Surely they can bring Brad Green on a casual basis down to the club to teach our forward to kick goals. He was the best goal kicker I’ve seen in my life. Natural, relaxed, could nail them from everywhere. We need some of that.

  37. I thought Weideman had a really strong block of form in the middle of the year. He's been utterly useless in the second half of the season. He gets pushed aside by the weakest of bodying. Without him taking grabs or bringing the ball to ground, our forwardline obviously doesn't function. Oliver's disposal by hand was shocking that quarter. Essendon look thoroughly ordinary. We should win easily, but we find ourselves a few points down. Hopeless.

  38. Apologies, got my wires crossed a little here. I was told he'd be given a contract, which I assumed meant he'd signed, but he's been given the contract by the club (a very good one) and he's expected to sign it but hasn't officially done so as yet apparently. Sorry about that!

  48. I agree with Ethan - the bombers have been "useless" of late. However, long term and long suffering MFC supporters will recognise the inherent dangers ( and frequently subsequent sadness) when our club goes into such games. Having said that, I reckon we'll beat the Bumbers. In fact, we simply must win for reasons of self respect and salvaging something out of a season riddled with lost opportunity. Unfortunately, I cannot accept the dream that Freo will beat the Dogs. Let's enjoy our last game for the year and get well and truly [censored]!
