Mark Robinson reporting in a Herald Sun article that former MFC President Joseph Gutnick met current President Brad Green, apparently to make the following suggestions:- ● MAKING the disgruntled Christian Petracca the heir apparent to skipper Max Gawn. ● STRONGLY endorsing Green as the permanent president; ● URGING a settlement in the bitter legal dispute between the club and former president Glen Bartlett ● KEEPING under-fire chief executive Gary Pert. According to Joe: "I told Brad that if I was president I would ask the coach to move on," Gutnick said. "I know there would be players who wouldn't agree with me, however, 100 per cent of the supporters I'm friends with, both Jewish and non-Jewish, think he should move on. "Melbourne needs a rejuvenation and injection and that's one of the ways to do it." Pity that Robbo hasn’t taken the trouble to do a fact check on the claim which sounds ludicrous to me. I’m Jewish and have friends who support the club who are both Jewish and non-Jewish and zero per cent of my friends have suggested they hold that belief. The person who I believe should move on is Gutnick himself - I once supported the bloke but that was 20 years ago. Today, he has zero credibility when it comes to football.17 points

Stop talking nonsense he has underperformed in 1 season There is 1 premier every year Oh wait the generic Swyl reply “we didn’t win any finals” He had is in the top 4 from 21-23 with a flag, I know for reasons beyond your control you didn’t play but these things are bloody hard to win. All we ask as supporters (and it isn’t accepting mediocrity) is to have us regularly pushing top 4 with a chance of winning a flag. He has done that 3 out of 4 years10 points

I really don't understand the calls to move Goody on, from 2021 - 2024 our record is Wins: 60 - 66% Losses: 29 ( 12 of those this year) Draws: 1 Finals Wins 3 Losses 4 Premierships 1. In terms of pure football performance, that's a record that puts us right up the pointy end of the competition in that period, and you could argue we underperformed losing 4 close finals in that time. TMac is one of footy's great stories, going at pick 53 or so in the draft, overcoming challenging foot injuries and reinventing himself at both ends of the ground over the years. Good on him!10 points

I'm not sure as to how many of you here are subscribers but my wife is and, as a result I voted and I also left a comment about the way I feel. Anyone who knows about polling, will tell you that the conclusion reached by Robinson about Melbourne supporters' attitudes to Gutnick's comments is fatally flawed. The respondents could be supporters of any one of the 18 AFL clubs or indeed, supporters of none of them. This is shocking but unsurprising given the consistently anti MFC reporting from this newspaper. If you subscribe to the the Herald Sun, you too can vote and leave a comment (up to you how you vote and what you write). It will be interesting to see if it gets a pass from the moderator.9 points

A set up in the Herald Sun's dreadful campaign against the Melbourne Football Club dishonestly suggesting that there was a mutiny at the club based on a poll taken on line. "Thousands of Melbourne fans have backed former president Joe Gutnick's call for the embattled club to sack coach Simon Goodwin." The poll was open to the public and there's no evidence as to how many of the people who voted are Melbourne fans. This is a disgraceful and dishonest set up against Simon Goodwin and a breach of journalistic ethics. The only person who deserves to get the sack is the person responsible for this outrage.9 points

Both Jewish AND non-Jewish... well, that settles it. Seriously, I had my doubts about Green having the nous for this position, even in a temporary capacity. This certainly doesn’t settle my nerves.9 points

Couldn't agree more re the leadership situation (same goes for Tmac), but also, while I know Milkshake has his detractors (on this forum at least) I am rapt he stays on for his footy smarts, skills and forward line marshalling. We are always better with him in the side, and miss him greatly when he isn't. And good on him for being rewarded for staying the course - he could have easily run up the white flag with that knee. A class act...8 points

I feel like the only logical solution here is to lobby the Chinese government to create maps that clearly show Polynesia as part of Asia. Everyone will be too terrified to disagree, and we’ll get Tairon.8 points

Apparently the topic of conversation shifted to Harrison Petty over dessert, with Joe adamant he should be moved back. Green was seen feverishly taking notes on a Smiggle notebook.8 points

Well we should be seeking compo over rule changes that cost us a number 5 pick in Mac Andrea a year after Dogs got JUH and then the rules changed back again. Maybe the compo should be access to this kid. Be hard for any other club to complain, given we are the biggest loser of the AFL rule changes.8 points

Wtf.... We lost Mac due to rule change. Now they've changed the rules he should be all ours. We need to actually put up a stink about it8 points

The more we hear about the challenges Goodwin is dealing with in managing key players (Oliver and Petracca in particular), the more respect you have for him as a coach and what he has achieved. Plus, the soft cap makes it unrealistic to sack a good coach with three years left on his deal. Even West Coast baulked at paying a tax for exceeding the cap and they have $50m in the bank.7 points

I found the Speed interview insightful. He was particularly diplomatic he was in his approach. Reflecting on my experience with boards, most of the ones I’ve been involved with are heavily focused on risk management. At each board meeting, the CEO typically provides a report on various risk areas being monitored, with a particular emphasis on high and catastrophic risks. Nowadays, in most organisations, these risks always include finance, WHS, cybersecurity, legal matters, the health of key contracts, and, especially in a high-profile industry like the AFL, public relations. Given this context, I’m astonished by the apparent laissez-faire attitude the Melbourne Football Club seems to have towards the Petracca saga. This issue impacts several critical risk areas—finance, WHS, key contracts, and PR—yet the response has been surprisingly complacent - until recently. When Speed mentioned that the Melbourne board seemed competent, it made me wonder: do they receive a risk report each month? It would be concerning if they didn’t, considering how this saga is affecting the club’s overall stability and reputation. Regular risk reports would ensure that the board members are fully informed and able to address these challenges proactively, rather than just reacting when things escalate.6 points

"Diamond" Joe Gutnick is yesterday's news. He did save the Melbourne Football Club from merger but that was in 1996. That is 28 years ago! I remember his Presidency being full of drama and fighting with the AFL. He then lost the Presidency in 2001 or 2002 to Gabriel Szondy, from what I recall? He still owes the Melbourne Football Club around $400,000 dollars. A debt he never paid. He stuffed up our opportunity to have a proper Home Base at Olympic Park but unfortunately Eddie and the Magpie scum swooped in and stole the location from us! Now in 2024 after many years in ignominy and being bankrupt (at least it says that in past newspaper articles) he has the "chutzpah" to think he speaks for us?! In my opinion Joseph Gutnick has lost any respect he once had with most Melbourne supporters and members many years ago.5 points

I think we can all agree to disagree and not keep saying the same thing over and over Some people think Goodwin has been top 4 H&A for 3 straight years and done well despite poor finals losses and a bad year this year. Others think he has failed. One thing is fact - he is the best coach we've had in 60 years5 points

I completely disagree with the posts that say fans will leave if we play "boring" footy. I believe that if we win games, fans will attend.5 points

Who? I don't see any better candidates in the market. Simmo? Ken Hinkley if he gets sacked? People calling to sack the coach just want some blood. Would set us back a few years IMO5 points

The ONLY justification for Green meeting Gutnick, was if it was under the premise of donating money towards the new training facilities. Otherwise there is no reason in the world he should have caught up with him, and given he's now run to the media to dish the dirt, it's time to block his number.5 points

15.8 Qualified NGA Players (a) For the purposes of this Rule 15, a Qualified NGA Player means a NGA Player who: (i) was born in Africa or Asia; or (ii) has a biological parent who was born in Africa or Asia; or (iii) is an Indigenous Person; or (iv) is a CALD NGA Player Seems they changed or narrowed the rules from parent born overseas to parent born in Africa or Asia. Very much a missed opportunity by the AFL to not include Polynesia given the quality of athletes and the fact most of them play rugby codes rather than footy despite many being well suited. They're giving up the chance of several Dusty Martin type players (in style more than quality of course). I assume the club has checked that his parents weren't both born in Samoa and have tried to argue that if they speak Samoan and have strong culture that he should fit as a CALD player.5 points

The rules to be drafted under the NGA for non Indigenous boys are: participant born overseas or have at least one parent born overseas There’s also an age by which you have to be in an academy. You can’t just roll in last minute. So Ah-Mu either wasn’t in our academy early enough or he and his parents don’t match the criteria but they’ve let him train in the academy because he’s multicultural. The whole concept is fundamentally flawed if not entirely discriminatory but the idea Cam McKenzie, James Borlase and the Closehy brothers are eligible and this kid isn’t makes a mockery of the whole thing.5 points

Absolute no brainer. Tommy just played his most consistent season since arguably 2018. With Tomlinson likely St Kilda bound, Adams still developing and Turner's new role in the forward line we need all the tall defensive depth we can muster. This will also give him a decent chance at 250 games next year as well which would be a terrific achievement and well deserved.5 points
