I love the Demonland Podcast but Binman is wrong in thinking McVee had a stinker, 20 disposals including 6 marks and 14 kicks made McVee one of our better performers, his intercept, dummy and kick to Fritsch is the 3rd quarter shows the talent that is in the making. McVee is a veteran of 26 games, he made a few mistakes and he needs to tackle more. Let's encourage McVee to take a few more risks, play further up the ground, be the quality distributor we need going into our 50. Then we can talk about the smell of Victory. Big Torp16 points

Maynard is clearly getting booed at the unfurling of their premiership flag, against an interstate club. The AFL can pretend all they like, but I can guarantee they are hearing. The general public is appalled.13 points

One of the most composed kick at training, often hitting with perfection (Hore). Although under minimal pressure. Was on target right from the start of his preseason. He appeared determined to break into the AFL again. Well done Marty.13 points

Must've confused the hell out of Maynard to see something change direction in mid-flight.11 points

I can't believe the hand wringing about dropping Tomlinson. Actually, that's not entirely true; I've been here long enough. Tomlinson was outpointed positionally several times last week but was saved by the slippery conditions on several occasions. No basic level key defender should be beaten defensively on that postage stamp ground in slippery conditions, so being serviceable last week is no particular recommendation. There were 3 contested marks taken by forwards all game and they were all Sydney players - it was an easy day to be a defensive tall defender. The point is that Tomlinson's game was fine enough but not exactly a defence for him being replaced by a better option. If TMac comes in it's because he's a better footballer than Tomlinson. TMac is slow but he's certainly no slower than Tomlinson, and TMac is much better at everything else. Did Tomlinson deserve to be dropped? It doesn't matter because we're selecting a team to win this week. Whether a fringe veteran 'deserves a game' isn't relevant because that isn't how you select a team, you select a team to win the match you're playing.11 points

Sydney should be very pleased with their start to season 2024. They've managed to beat this year's premiers and last year's premiers in successive weeks.10 points

It really is incredible. After 54 years of watching Footy, I honestly didn’t think I could hate Collingwood any more than I did before. I have always hated Collingwood But seriously the hate has gone up 10x9 points

He also played a fair chunk of matches in 2019 with May & Lever. Albeit 2019 wasn't a great year in general of course and there's been a big improvement from those two since. May's first year as well and we know how that faired. Marty had a marginally higher seasonal player rating than both May & Lever that year! His overall DE% was below average @ 69% (AFL average approx 73%) His kicking efficiency was also below AFL average @ 66% (i believe AFL average is somewhere around 69%). Would be worth seeing that result against tall defender's averages though. He averaged 4.1 turnovers a game, ranked 7th worst overall but behind two other defenders in Salo (4.2) & Hibbo (4.3) Marty averaged 4.5 rebounds a game that year. Only 2nd to Salo with 5. Ranked 2nd in intercept averages (7.5) to Lever (7.9) Alot of water under the bridge since. Marty will be a very interesting watch this season. Good luck son!9 points

Not letting a player who’s keen to leave the club do so because they’re “required”, then dropping them for the second game of the season despite a solid performance in the first, is the epitome of poor player-management. Goodwin, though rich in “learnings”, seems to have learned nothing from the selection debacle of last year’s finals campaign.9 points

Worth noting that; - half time reporter was Theodore Doropolous - Theo has just scored the job of his lifetime with ch7 in Melbourne - Theo is from Adelaide - if I were Theo I’d be leveraging my network back home to score early points in my new plush gig - Theo has 6 O’s n his name. Can’t be trusted.9 points

I find it interesting that the accepted narrative in footy journalism is to speculate about player moves before most teams have even started the year. We’ve had Oliver, Petty, JUH amongst others. I thought it was ‘not done’ to speak about other teams’ contracted players? In public at least? This industry is becoming a deeper and darker cesspool, with the journalists lying on their backs at the bottom, feeding on it all.8 points

Game 87. Will bring up his 100 games of AFL footy, an exclusive club, with only aprox 17.5% of all VFL/AFL players having achieved that milestone. Life membership of the AFL too. Good onya omac.8 points

You're working you way to the top of the list of negative for negative's sake posters. How about you sprinkle something positive - just for comic relief.7 points

The bulldogs back 6 isn’t exactly stacked with quality key defenders. I hope Brown is fit because that’s where we have a clear advantage. Jones has to go to him, freeing up JVR for a big size advantage. C’mon Dees!7 points

Hope he goes well, was once one of ours and left on good terms. Therefore I only wish him goodwill. There are some classless posters on here and a few who are clearly trolling7 points

I'm still a little sceptical about all the claims of matches being fixed or being unduly influenced by umpires or that there is a narrative/agenda as to who plays in the Grand Final. BUT The AFL should surely be concerned that so many footy fans are saying it or thinking it.6 points

I’d love to see a graph of momentum shifts in games tracked to show forward half free kicks. Nobody wants to talk about it but forward half frees are worth their weight in gold, and decide far too many games.6 points

TMac has been training down back so I think he will be in the side to rotate with tall backs , replacing Thommo and also to give Max a chop out in the ruck. Brown replaces Schache, more reliable leading patterns. Woewodin replaces Laurie and adds a bit more grunt Pickett is an upgrade on Spargo and gives us more goal power and mid rotation Hore is a great intercept mark and plays tall and small so he is in for Bowey but with different strengths.6 points

I think the FD must prefer TMac to Tomlinson because TMac is more versatile, he can go back, forward and do ruck minutes. He did have a good pre-season. Good to see Hore for Bowey, if so that means Salem stays in the midfield. Interesting to see whether it's BBB or Fullarton for Love Shack.6 points

Tomlinson kept Lobb to 2 marks and 0 goals in the corresponding game last year so ofcourse we go ahead and drop him for this one.6 points

Except Tommo played well and Tmac' s last two he couldn't get near the ball. Really feel sorry for Tommo. Not the first time he's been dropped after a good game either.6 points

As others have mentioned. This is a great test for our forward line. Brambles has played 30 games Coffield has played 50 games Khamis has played 10 games. It's a great test because if our forward line isn't able to win one on one match ups, find separation and take marks against this lot I'm not sure when.5 points

Goto say, I think Tomlinson was very stiff being dropped. I haven't re-watched the replay of last week, but thought he was pretty solid and one of our better players last week. Great work by Marty Hore, T Mac and BBB working their way back into the side. Will see how they play, but I think all have worked hard in slightly different ways to get their way back into the senior team. If T Mac and BBB are sufficiently fit, then their more than capable of putting in good football performances. Marty Hore - what a great effort in preservance to make it back from the VFL after being a mature age rookie to begin with. Talk about MFC culture, I think this guy is made of the right stuff in this respects.5 points

I thought his game was good. In time, higher up the ground we may get some highlights but I’d rather see him clamp down this week. Weightman to 5 touches and no goals would be a great scalp. I’d rather him not be pressured to be a playmaker this early in his career. Keep the focus simple.5 points
