  1. this whole 'our fans don't cheer loudly enough' narrative needs to stop

  2. And straight into Freo's 22 for their first game. Good luck to him.

  3. Thought Tommo was actually solid down back....

  4. Happy for Marty Hore. Not many players get a second chance, especially not at the same club and especially not when they were a mature age player the first time. I hope he does well and can cement a spot in the team

  5. Never in a million years would I want our supporters to become like Collingwood supporters. Bloke sitting in front of me at the final last year was possibly the most vile human I've ever encountered, and I've been robbed at knife point in Africa. When Gus was knocked out he was shouting to get up and hurry up, weak [censored], gy cnt, [censored], [censored]. Anything the censor filter on this site will block, he said with vitriol. I'm not sure I'll ever attend another game against Collingwood now. Horrible experience surrounded by the absolute dregs of society. I'd rather complete silence than become like those pathetic scumbag losers. As far as I'm concerned, there was no premier in 2023. I refuse to acknowledge that clubs existence. They will never hold respect, get endless advantages, never win on merit, and should be "cancelled".

  6. So, big positive. So far every club that has moved Brodie Grundy on has won the premiership the following year.

  7. Laurie has a stinker. Laurie stays in. Tomlinson did everything right. Composed. Beat his opponent. Tomlinson is dropped. Like about 69,999 other MFC members … I’m very confused.

  8. THIS IS [censored] PLUS dreadful decision and will further erode his confidence! Just a [censored] kick in the Guts.... AGAIN🤮

  9. Thommo out of the squad ! [censored] if I understand that. I would love to be a fly on the wall in selection meetings because ,honestly, I just don't get some recent decisions.

  10. Don't see the point of just pushing Salem back if we've trained all pre season to have him spend time on ball, it's just back to same old again, try someone else at half back, maybe Hore. Also re Max being blocked , shepherded, bumped off the ball pretty sure it's still in the rules that the ball has to be within 5 meters but of course just crickets from AFL commentators.

  11. Well he could have gone into the ruck and beaten Grundy. He could have gone down the other end and flattened the Lizard. He could have gone into the middle and run with Heeney. He could also have told Max to jump early with knees up to stop Grundy wrestling. He could also have organized the oranges for 3/4 time. You see there is a lot more he could have done. Seriously though, he is really stiff, as I thought he was one of our better players and would end up on Lobb this week.

  12. I don’t want to be like them, cheer like them, go near them. I’d rather us be somewhat civil. We are also quite loud for our numbers in my opinion. Roffey and pert need to be careful. We don’t have generations of Centrelink recipients with nothing else to do but go to the football. We have supporters who have lives.

  13. If BBB plays, he likely draws Liam Jones. Which leaves O'Donnell for JVR and suddenly an awkward match up for Fristch who will relish the space BBB will create. Make it happen!

  14. The club needs to come out and clearly state it's intentions to the media on JUH before it's too late and we miss our chance to be in a news article.

  15. AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE IN PLAYER MANAGEMENT GOODWIN🤯😵‍💫

  16. Game 87. Will bring up his 100 games of AFL footy, an exclusive club, with only aprox 17.5% of all VFL/AFL players having achieved that milestone. Life membership of the AFL too. Good onya omac.

  17. Agreed. Tomlinson was one of few that beat his direct opponent last week. I would love to know what is expected of him to get a game compared to some who can have limited impact for weeks on end and continue to get a run.

  19. Ran into Kate y'day before Pink's final concert. The positive take aways... 👉🏼 Clarry's on track take no notice of extreme media views to the contrary ✅️ 👉🏼 Caulfield's on track just a few hurdles to get over and all going well we're aiming for 2025 take off ✅️ 👉🏼 We pushed back against usual Cattery draw and won that battle. There was a trade off and blow back but i'll leave that given the nature of thread ✅️

  20. I mentioned this on another thread but I think it is more appropriate here. I liked how the GWS crowd booed that dog every time he got near the ball. I hope that trend continues for the rest of the year. (As an aside I really deplored how fans from all teams booed Goodes- it was not on. Similar for that young bloke who moved from North to Port [North supporters excepted]. Perhaps I’m a bit one eyed and biased- but I believe the Maynard situation is different. The difference being he deserves it, simple as that)

  22. Tommo too slow for JUH. Horses for courses. But yes, he's stiff.

  23. Yep, can't believe it...?? Our backline is our strength I've been generally quiet on selection choices but this has me massively scratching my mullet!! I thought the May/Lever/Thommo combination really sorts out our coverage of the KPFs and then the McVee / Howes / Rivers / ...small gives us good coverage of the rest FFS

  24. I thought he played OK. A bit stiff to be dropped

  25. She’s right in saying that a loud crowd in our favour impacts how we play. And she’s right that Collingwood do it best. I’d argue that our crowds are louder than most give us credit for, but we can always do more.

  26. I'm fully of the opinion that Maynard learned nothing from the Brayshaw incident, apart from him getting away with it means he can continue to do it again and again, because he's now of the opinion that he's untouchable. He not only hit Toby Green across the face on the weekend, he pinned him to the ground and face gauged him. And the commentators were laughing it off, saying "ooh, look, the two number 4s are at it again! No love lost between these two! Hahahaha!" Had me just about swallowing my own vomit. And look at when Murphy was concussed in the Grand Final, look who collided with him pushing him into the path of McCarthy. None other than Maynard. He doesn't even have any regard for duty of care for his own teammates. If Murphy prematurely retires because of that (which still could be on the cards), there's two careers Maynard has ended. I hate him.

  28. You really think because it’s not in the media the Melbourne list management team have just decided to have no interest in perhaps the best young key forward in the game? When he kicks 6 on Tomlinson this weekend they might be asking who that guy is? Good clubs don’t leak trade plans in March.

  29. I vowed to not watch any non Melbourne games anymore because I’m really done with the AFL. My husband watching Richmond and I just snuck a peak and immediately I’m reminded what a corrupt piece of garbage this organization has become. The AFL fix to get a Carlton flag is in full swing.

  30. Exactly Didn't Tommo play in 9 or 10 wins and get dropped multiple times It's mind boggling they drop him

  31. Go back and analyse the results last year when only Lever and May are our tall defenders above 195cm. We invariably lose, including the Pies final when he stubbornly dropped Turner and didn’t replace him with Tomlinson.

  32. Tomlinson out is a bit stiff.

  33. Can only guess that Tommo wasn’t following the more subtle KPIs that armchair fans just aren’t as aware of - like maintaining a sub-20% goal kicking accuracy or bombing it to nobody for at least 60% of your possessions.

  34. Don't get your hopes up. If there wasn't a royal commission in to Goody's last two uses of the sub, I don't think you'll get one here.

  39. Just Imagine how emotional Robbo would be if it was Zack Merrett. Not only back then, but 6 months later now when discussing this media retirement topic. Instead he's cold and dispassionate (for once) to the suffering Gus has gone through. The bloke gets his knickers in a twist about anything else. Could say the same about the rest of the media. If it was Daicos taken out and medically retired, how is McGuire arguing about whether it comes out of the cap or not, today? He would've erupted then and would still be erupting, flushed like a red tomato. Lloyd and Merrett? L Mathews and Lachie Neale. Kornes and Rozee, Caro and Dustin Martin. All of these pr1cks would change their tune about the suspension and the cap talk, if it happened to their own player/club. Instead it's remarkably quiet. Very Elephant in the Roomy. You'll have to excuse me, I saw the incident again and saw that thug veer towards him. Roused me again into anger.

  40. Hrmm... I gently disagree. Not because I don't like Rivers having the ball, but because I don't like too much emphasis on 'player x should do this type of thing and player y should do that kind of thing'. In my mind it is the Terry Wallace syndrome. Excessive designation of roles leaving players mentally limited and trying to follow rules that are about who and 'what' they are, instead of the situation they are in. Ha, fun side note - I was just about to give a second example after Richmond under Wallace, and it was going to be the Bulldogs of the late 90s early 2000s.... under Terry Wallace. I'm comfortable with the name! Coincidentally, I think Sydney's greatest strength is the spread of mid-sized players who are ready to do whichever task falls to them at that moment of play. Obviously it is a little easier when you have an extra four top-5 draft picks courtesy of special consideration for the commercial need to bias an entire competition to serve its most fickle supporter base, but they still do it well.

  41. I think it likely to be Tommy or BBB, HP an outside chance but probably needs a bit more time. Goody was talking about discussions after training today so will be interesting to see which way it falls.

  43. I've noticed more and more fans from different clubs booing goal kickers. I don't think it's something we do as fans. Really does my head in. Why would you do it unless they had form? I think it's very unAustralian but I must be wrong.

  44. Same. At the end of the day, we know Brown is cooked, but he's still going to drag the number one defender regardless because on a good day he can be dangerous with his reach. There were stages last week Sydney's talls paid no respect to Schache and used McCartin who's their best defender on JVR which clearly wouldn't happen if Brown was playing.

  47. Would be extremely disappointed if we weren't going hard for him. Does he like it plonked on top of his head 25 times per game?

  48. But he DID bump. That's the point. That was never in question Choose to bump. Pay the price - that's the rule whether it occurs during a careless or incidental contact or not. Or a 'football act'. They didn't debate he bumped Gus. They argued he was merely protecting himself whilst engaged in a football act. A reasonable choice to make in the circumstances A shepperd is unarguably a football act. But CHOOSE to bump and you knock.a player out you are gone. Just as Maynard should have copped weeks when he CHOSE to bump rather than, say, just putting both hands out to Gus's chest to minimise the potential for harm for BOTH of them. If in that latter scenario he accidentally hit Gus in the head and knocked him out, yes that would not be reportable. BUT HE DIDN'T - HE CHOSE TO BUMP. Maynard owed Gus a duty of care once he chose to bump - and did not meet that duty of care when he hit him flush to the head.
