J.Viney won that game for us. Disgusting commentary by Dunstall, barracking for the Suns and calling umps decisions that weren’t even there.35 points
-
Top game! A hard fought win against a tough opponent ! They picked through our defence too easily at times but , in the end, some big moments from Max, Tracc , Oliver in the last quarter got us over the line. Some confusing umpiring again. Fritta - an absolute mare!25 points

Geez there's some negative [censored] on this forum tonight. We won a tough game - that's good enough for me !22 points

Interesting that when Collingwood fall over the line against middle of the road signs like Essendon and Adelaide- the media, the players and supporters celebrate like they’ve won a flag and give the impression that they’re this special side that captures the hearts of the media and most football supporters. But, when we win a close game against a middle of the road side interstate in challenging conditions, it’s considered a poor win by some despite leading for 99% of the game, something that Collingwood are incapable of doing in many of their games. This win wasn’t as poor as some are making it out to be. We got lucky with some umpire calls as well as McPherson missing that very late goal, but we beat an inform side who are playing hard footy at the moment and asked a lot of question of us today.22 points

He is a machine. You'd have to have blinkers on not to see his impact. Finished with 28 disposals, despite having a hard tag (ie not a defensive mid like Dunkley's job on Cripps) on him all game – something that doesn’t happen much anymore because the oppo is basically giving up a player and coaches can drag a player doing the hard tag away from contests (which are the reasons I’ve heard goody give for not using a hard tag more often) And despite having less disposals than he normally would, Oliver had the third most metres gained (behind tracc and maxy) for us and on a night we got smashed in CP, the most contested possessions (he was two ahead of trac, four ahead of Viney – and equal second with Swallow for both teams, behind only Anderson). And top all that off he had 9 score involvements – two more than any other player on the ground. Oliver doesn’t play, we don’t win. But sure, he didn't have much infleunce. Sheesh.17 points

Suns pressure was finals quality after the first 20 minutes. Really hard to play against tonight, and wouldn’t let us take a commanding lead at any stage. Full credit to them. They would’ve beaten a lot of sides tonight. A lot. Stoked to get the 4 points but heaps to work on.17 points

Michael Hibberd is sooo adored on this site, yet he is still underrated. Get him back in pronto17 points

Yeah but they got about 3 goals from frees that weren't there in the 3rd so swing and roundabouts.15 points

I’d say let the adrenaline wear off a bit more, DeeSpencer. This is hyperbole.14 points

As great as bang, bang, bang was and what followed, it really has messed with some peoples minds on expectation. Not going to be rosy all the time ffs, we will work on what we did wrong and carry on. Some of the comments about the players are just ridiculous.13 points

Phew, take that any day. A few things to work on during the week. I thought McVee with some subtle touches saved a couple of goals in the second half.13 points

Mate you really need to stop taking unwarranted pot shots at our players. 'Hunter's cooked'- Yes, he was off today but he's been very good this year. 'Grundy's a headless chook'- This one's an absolute shocker. Grundy has been a massive upgrade on Jackson. At least he actually has the capacity to kick goals and hold onto his marks. 'Fritsch needs a wakeup call'- Why? He definitely had a bad day but he's still averaging more than two goals a game. Not to mention that he's easily been our best forward over the past two and a half years. 'I thought Oliver had left behind these shocker games in 2020 but he’s had a few this year now'- Aside from the Brisbane game, all of Oliver's performances have been excellent-solid. And I thought he was great in the last quarter, when the game was there to be won.12 points

Suns deserved to win by conventional measures. we had the experience and skill to just get there good to see we can win ugly but we need to analyse how the suns beat us in the midfield so significantly12 points
-
Paper and form, we should prevail comfortably. But I think the Suns will give a good account of themselves and really push us at times today. 4 goals would be solid, 6 or 7 would be a strong win.12 points

Good post, mate. Unlike some I'm rapt with the performance. Playing like that the Suns will beat most up there. You can tell the Suns had really set themselves for this game and I reckon it was one of their best ever performances. We never let them get in front. They drew level but never got ahead. That was significant. Anderson was best on ground. At 3/4 time I wanted Harmes to be subbed on to tag him. He came on but didn't tag him. Anderson was dominating but we just let him run free. I still don't understand why we didn't send Harmes to him. But I'm happy to bag the points and move on. It's easy to forget Geelong won 5 and lost 4 in their first 9 games last year. I'm happy with how we're building.11 points

A mate is staying at the Sofitel in Broadbeach, the demons are staying their also, he was in the Spa with Viney, Van Rooyen and two other demons he didn’t know 🤦♂️ (bandwagon Lions supporter). Viney mentioned to him that the suns at home was the Demons hardest away game last year. They should be on ready to go!11 points

The same people were probably complaining in the game day threads and post match discussions in 2021. They are just wired differently. The way I see it, 4 points is 4 points and there’s ~ 350 days in a calendar year where the Dees DON’T win a game, so I’m going to enjoy the days it does happen, irrespective of how.10 points

Close game to watch, so I forgive the 4y.o. sooking going on but FFS, we got the bloody ice-cream. Tough conditions, you could see they were cooked, humidity was between 70%-80%, you’d be sweating in your armchair. Viney immense, body on line time and again. Look at the coach’s reaction, was totally pumped he knew they’d just won an unbelievably hard game. They found a way, winning a difficult road game. Willing to agree with Petty back if the opposition brings 3 talls, but the forward experiment is far from over. Bit worried about JVR, I think he still gets done for being clumsy and not Hawkins. No intent it was the inside of his arm and I was wondering if it was a neck sprain causing the drama rather than a concussion. Umpiring felt like a win for us, but Kozzie also missed some frees. More to say later, going to watch it again because I like contested footy, ice dancing not so much. I saw effort from everyone.10 points

Casboult is an experienced physically mature forward must have 15kg+, strength and height on Turner. Sold the poor bloke to the wolves. Whoever decided on that match up should severely self-flagellate themselves behind the shelter shed. Absolute Howler! The penny did belatedly drop, Petty went back and can stay there. Maysie needs help. Desperately.10 points

It does make me laugh when people melt after a win. Don't change Demonland!10 points

If Collingwood won that game against GC like we did tonight, everyone out there would be continuing to marvel at how they manage to grind games out. I’m happy with the win. Gold Coast are no joke.9 points
-
Just listened to dew's presser. I'd suggest he'd agree with all these points. Was at pains to say how well they played and how highly he rates us. And was effusive about Anderson, noting that in addition to his crazy numbers people might not notice how much work he does off the ball. They will beat ANY opponent up there if they bring that contest and heat. Their contested ball game plan is perfectly suited for the slippery condition they so often play in at home.9 points

What a complete load of rubbish. GC are 5 goal better side at home and have lots of upside. We won by 16 goals last week and took the 4 points today. You are not going to blow every team out of the water9 points

Gold Coast are the last team to beat Geelong, who have been absolutely dominating teams since. The Suns are a very good team, especially at home. They had some important players out as well. We probably didn't deserve to win but we did. On such results seasons are often built. Gawn and Viney played like the leaders they are and that was the difference in the end, along with Brayshaw putting his body on the line multiple times. The Suns will win a lot of games at home and against very good opposition. Fritsch will not play that badly again. Time for Brown to come back and we desperately need Hibberd to play as many games as possible. I think Harmes might be due a full game too.9 points

What is this? For every good post of yours, there are five examples of stilted overreaction or wild misreads.9 points

I am glad we got the 4 points. This thread has some of the worst whinging after a win I have seen. Nearly every one is bagging May but how much influence on the game did King have ? Not much I would say. Also Oliver who I thaught had a great last quarter when it mattered. Will say that Fritta and Langdon should have stayed home.9 points

Bring back BBB. Petty is so much better down back and he steadies us. Start Max forward next week and let Brodie ruck the majority.9 points

Matt Rowell is an unbelievable clearance player, and made Trac and Clarry look second rate at times. I thought Jack Viney, Max Gawn, Trent Rivers, Jake Bowey, and Judd McVee were the only ones who came close to winning their position on the night.9 points

Trac recognises how good the suns are i know a few here will blame umpires and individual dees but they weren’t playing witches hats…this week9 points

Is there a holding the ball or dropping the ball, or incorrect disposal rule, kossie caught Gold Coast players cold 20 metres out from goal in both first and second quarters - ball up. Had his head taken off after picking the ball off the ground in the 2nd. Umpires do him no favours. Thank goodness Chol mark wasn’t paid and Grundy goaled in the first for one 50/50 to us!8 points

We don't win well, and we don't win easily, but we find a way. Some massive deficiencies to be sorted out in our midfield. Some other deficiencies to be worked out in our F50. In the last 5 minutes Rivers, Viney and Brayshaw were immense.8 points

Trac summed it up. Beaten in almost every area. 4 points. Let's not speak of it again.8 points

I assume this refers to the thread title rather than its author😐 The author's personality and mind are just fine, thank you 🙂(altho noting the time spent on DL might prompt some to question the good sense of said author...) Fair call! The path of this WTAS title: It started off as @ Metricon as I couldn't remember where they are located. A moderator rightly changed it to @ Heritage Bank as that is the stadium's new sponsor. The author (moi) wasn't fond of that title so I searched out the location and changed it to @ Carrara, 'overuling' the mod.😟 On reading their fan bf page they have nicknamed the stadium 'The Bank' which I like. Must confess it was with some trepidation that I 'overruled' a very senior mod by changing the 'Heritage Bank' title but I don't have a 'warning' so all is good.🙃8 points

Fourth quarter was so much better with the volume muted. Viney and Gawn the difference. Bowey and Sparrow had good games.7 points

We won without any of our key forwards barely doing anything. Phew! Any top 4 side would've killed us tonight7 points

Yes, respect every opposition. I just don’t think the Suns are playing as good as most are saying. They kicked 11.6 last week and that’s not much. 6.1 came in one quarter. They will have to play a hell of a lot better to beat us. They’ve lost some key players as already mentioned, we should be winning this.7 points
