  1. G'day all! It's that time of the year again! Cue the mandatory Melbourne finals pump up video! Very happy with how this one turned out! Feel free to share any other retrospective/pump up/hype videos that you come across here. Go Dees!

  5. Looked like Sammy Johnson was having a nice moment with her boyfriend/husband on the boundary line after she worked her way back to AFLW. Love that stuff. God, this team has people you just love. Mithen is just a neat, everywhere player - reminds me of Nathan Brown circa 2000s. Maddie Gay is immense and Libby Birch was just breathing fire back there. West, Purcell and Hanks are just hard at the footy with great balance. And Tayla H doesn’t even celebrate when she kicks one from 40 off one step. Like Mark Waugh through covers - it’s a surprise if it doesn’t happen so why bother celebrating… Oh, and Kate, please, consistent run in with momentum and don’t lean back when you kick it… you’ve got everything else!

  6. Best start to the season possible, beating the reigning premiers in their home state, love it

  7. What a great win. I am super impressed with how far the skills have come on, especially handballs which was easily the weakest link in the girls game. To say it has improved out of sight is not hyperbole. That was a great win and a fantastic start to the season. To beat the yardstick first up... well.. yeah im pumped.

  8. Great game girls! They have tweaked the game plan and discovered the ability to change the angles with some good kicking. Well done. Looking good

  9. Personally, I'm not convinced Jacko is gone. But if he wants out, I 100% agree we should play hard ball. We owe Jackson nothing and homesickness doesn't tick the 'personal reasons' box.

  10. By far the best team across the night! Every time Adelaide has some ascendancy we brought it back on our terms and eventually crushed their spirit. Could easily have been a 5+ plus win, bust couldn’t ask for a better start to the season! Well done Dees!

  11. This game along with the smashing of North were simply exhilarating. After such a long drought it was like the dam wall breaking. We played and won both games in such brilliant fashion. The team showed the football public that the North game was no once off fluke. After the game, like Paul Kelly’s iconic song, I ran across Gosch’s Paddock in Leaps and Bounds. My old man was seriously ill in Box Hill Hospital (these were the halcyon days when you could get a bed in a public hospital). He had been in trouble with the nurses for having his tranny on high volume and celebrating after a Demons goal. Our mutual joy was palpable as we reviewed the game and talked over the highlights. Memorable days.

  12. Purcell and West 47 touches between them playing in the middle. Only in their 2nd seasons with us. With KP chipping in with 24 of her own, the mids just look awsome. BOG would have to be Libby Birch, who held everything together against the top line forward line in the competition. Hope Goldy gets back soon, because Libby can't do it all on her own. Gillard looks fantastic and can kick long as well. Very quiet games from Bannan and Zanker, so plenty of upside to be found there.

  13. Well done girls. Cheering loud for you tonight despite razor blades in my throat. Tayla looking more dangerous through the middle. Midfielders brutal inside. Crows clearly have some great individuals but couldn’t really get any cohesion in ball movement

  14. We’re had some great wins over the journey but that’s one of the best. Superb performance Rock solid defensively, magnificent contest work. And had the guts and belief to take the game on. West was outstanding. This time last year she could barely kick the ball. Massive improvement A 3 goal win away to the Crows. Unreal. They’ve been our buggy team Everyone contributed. I’m super proud Go Dees

  16. Blaming Jackson?? He’s already been playing well for us in the last few games and I can’t see him slowing down for the remaining games. I hate this idea that if someone is likely to leave the club, they should be made to play out their remaining games in the VFL. Jackson obviously loves the club and his team mates, but he obviously has a strong desire to be in the same place as his family.

  17. I love our song SO much! It’s my doorbell and my ringtone and my pens and my bottle opener. I hear it a lot! I never tire of it. On that subject, one day I came home earlier than expected and I could hear the Sydney theme song coming from my son’s room. I said “what are you doing playing that song?!” He said, “I was gonna teach myself to play your football club’s anthem to surprise you but when I googled I found this other one that’s better. It’s got a dope banjo solo in the middle.” 😑 Unfortunately, since he’s 17yo the putting him up for adoption window has closed.

  19. No problem maintaining his cardio-pulmonary endurance = swimming, cycling, circuit training, alter-G off load running. The endurance issue is to do with the specific requirements of running and its effects on muscles, tendons and joints that can’t be replicated otherwise - jog, sprint, jump, land, change direction. All very function specific.

  20. I have thought that Adelaide were too big, too strong and too talented for us. They are the benchmark. No more. To beat them Rnd 1 on their own deck must give the group so much belief for this season. Handy percentage to start the year too - 159%!

  22. I was 12, dad wouldnt take me to the game I sat in the car and listened on the radio, tooted the horn every time we kicked a goal, until the neighbours complained that I was tooting the horn too much. Other than that i have fairly vague memories of that finals series, except dad coming home after the hawthorn game, drunk, saying we was robbed.

  27. Two things Liv Purcell is showing why we got her to the club. probably BOG at half time. Gillard is bloody tall and coordinated and can kick. In years to come she could be a game changer

  30. A shout out to buck_nekkid who was the only other poster to work it out. Not sure that a drumroll is warranted, but the correct answer (as alluded to in the preamble) is that all the nicknames of the players in this team are related to food and drink. Here's the team in that format: B: Whopper Spud Cheesy H/B: Chip Coconut (or Coco) Fruity C: Rocket Figjam Pasties H/F: Trout Duck Chook F: Crackers Nuts Loaf (don't know why) R: Strawbs Choco Sugar I/C: Sauce Chops Juice Mocha

  32. So @binman was right after all!? Team performance was down due to the heavy loading of grog undertaken by a few senior players at the club. Makes sense.

  40. Goldie injured. Not sure how long We are favourites which is surprising. I reckon Harris will dominate even more this year. L Pearce and Zanker are by the far the best ruck duo in the comp. we need big seasons from Mithin and Hanks and pressure team football and are a red hot chance tonight

  43. T Mac himself spoke about how the club's psychologist had worked with him and that they had discovered that he felt he was too mentally constrained if he was "stuck" deep in the forward line. He said at the time that he may spend some time on the wing to allow him to remove those mental shackles.

  44. Hopefully Stinear has spent the last four months working out how to stop Hatchard and Marinoff. We have more talent across the field, but their best players destroy us every time. Goldrick is a big out, as she was one of our best in the GF. Crows are clearly favourites on past form.

  46. Huge game first up The Crows are a very tough proposition over there and despite losing Erin Phillips (absolute gun) they still have plenty of skill and experience Around the ball they are just so tough. Marinoff and Hatchard are beasts. They've monstered us in the past This is Daisy's last crack at it, would love if we could bring home the prize this year As ever, we won't lose through lack of heart or endeavour, this girls as always give their best Hard to see a win here. My heart says Dees but head say Crows by 10 points

  47. I was gonna say the same thing! Yze was in front right until the last minute when Kingsley walked in and nailed the handshake with a nice, firm grip. On lookers said they had never seen a final interview day handshake like it but that was not all! His laptop started up in 15 seconds, an AFL record. This all paved the way for his super smooth PowerPoint presentation which in addition to the new clicker he bought specially, referenced the words: 'process, system, outcomes, growth, and metrics' a million times and then showed a diagram of the best way to make it from the cafeteria to the training ground for training. Needless to say after that, it was a done deal.
