  4. Milkshake is a solid, low risk choice and probably a better Like for Like replacement for a Harmes than Bedford or Dunstan.

  5. How ironic BBB plays his 150th against his former club. But well done to him. I must admit when we used to p[lay aginst him it would bug me with his run up. How things change when he becomes part of your team. He helped us win a premiership and I hope the team win for him against his former club. Congrats on your milestone match.

  7. I hate the use of that word when talking about players. Anyone that makes it to AFL level for a start is not a spud...they've got to be very good footballers to even get on an AFL list let alone play one game. It's something the majority of us will never do.

  8. I like it! When I told Mrs DOF of Melky’s inclusion, which will bring him one game closer to his 200, she responded “that’s great, it matters! It’s a further endorsement of the outstanding culture we now have at the Melbourne Football Club”. I’m not going to argue with my lovely wife on that one!

  9. The polar opposite for me, never seen him avoid anything, other than a dumb decision. Picks his moments smartly, but is one of the hardest nuts at the club.

  10. I've had worse. Melksham should be the absolute last resort of selection. The point of being selected when we have multiple injuries. He's well past it at nearly 31 years of age and not in the club's future plans. He shouldn't be in the team robbing games off Bedford who actually deserve to be rewarded for his consistency of form in the VFL but also the perfect opportunity to see what he has to offer at AFL level with a string of games while Harmes is off injured.

  11. Can’t say I am thrilled with Melksham being the in, but I can say I am thrilled at the thought of him getting to 200 games.

  12. He is all elbows, knees, angles and awkwardness. There is little smooth or fluent about him to attract people to notice and admire him. These attributes work in his favour as opposition players have to find a way around his marking the ball at its highest point, and his natural body movement putting people off balance. I LOVE his long straight runup, and I am bewildered many other young forwards don't attempt the same. He runs in a straight line towards his target, and kicks it in that line, while being at a slow running pace. Having said all that, he makes our forward 50 effectiveness 30% better just by being there. I rate him very highly and still cannot believe the stupidity of North to treat him the way they did, and then let him go the way they did.

  13. What May did was what Lloyd was talking about with Shiel. There was a lot of nonsense about Lloyd wanting them to go around and hit blokes (ironically he was a massive sniper back in the day). He was just saying that your passion to back up a mate can be focussed and that you should respond. Like the Dees. Our teams ethos is caring in its brutality.

  15. Looking forward to him running through a "Congratulations Ben Brown on 150 Games, Premiership Player,. You didn't want him you fools" Love watching him clunking marks. Also love the word clunk/clunking

  16. Well done Ben Brown. He has improved our side. I still wonder why he doesn't have to bounce the ball once in his run-in for goal to avoid being pinged for a "travel". 😄

  17. I didn't have the hate that some had when he played for North. In fact, I admired how actually good he was and hard to stop when he was at his absolute peak. I think the AFL industry really underrate just how good BB career has been. 3 years in a row he kicked over 60+ goals including a bag of 10 in one game and was very unlucky not be a Coleman Medallist in all 3. What's even more bewildering was he never got an AA look in any of those years. Congrats on the 150th Benny.. hopefully he kicks 7 and stick it right up them.

  19. I like thay we are taking the opportunity to play Melksham, he was solid against Hawthorn, good pressure, and I think his class adds fwd to connection If we're actively trying to get him to 200 then great! That's a plus, and a great reflection on a good team looking after those who have played roles along the way Bedford is exciting, and has plent of class, but he'll get plenty more chances

  20. Agree I think he's there to "improve" the forward delivery and kick 2 odd goals. Will he? No idea

  21. Is it possible to love May anymore than right now?!?

  22. I agree with Lloyd. He watched his old Club play “Bruise Free” Football, and he didn’t like it. I didn’t like it when the MFC played that style of game either. That was the beginning of our darkest days. Essendrug are in for years of pain and ridicule if they don’t respond very quickly. will they? Personally i hope they rot, but I fully understand what The Velvet Sledgehammer is saying

  23. You get the money out of them? My experience is get them to open the account and I will give you my share. The reverse sees me paying most months with “ oh sorry dad I will send you the money later today” if it works for you then you have my admiration mauriesy.

  28. Correct. Spargs was with our Murray Bushrangers system from schoolboys to his draft year. He was an elite junior prospect and made the All Australian under 16's playing for NSW as an on baller. That's right, he was an absolute gun playing as an inside midfielder with spurts as a half forward. Well worth keeping a close eye on this over the next few years whether he may get some midfield opportunities like we're seeing with Alex Neale Bullen. We were lucky the AFL changed rules around the GWS zoning because had they not, Spargo would be currently a GWS player. His old man Paul Spargo is one of the most revered country footy legend in the Ovens and Murray league. A 5 time premiership coach for powerhouse club Albury Tigers and was inducted as coach for the Ovens and Murray team of the century. I played senior footy for Yarrawonga when I was a bit younger and coming up against a Spargo coached Albury was definitely one of the most physical games of footy you'd play. They were dirty as hell, but it made them into the powerhouse they are today. Paul Spargo could also give an almighty spray which could be heard from the other side of the ground! All in all they are fantastic family the Spargo's. Kate and Paul should be congratulated in raising 3 outstanding kids. Despite his high profile locally, Paul always kept his distance when it came to Charlie's footy coming through the junior ranks and was never one to get involved vocally like some parents I've come across.

  29. I wouldn't have thought so. There's a lot of red in ours. Also, we'll be the ones with the ball. The others will be chasing.

  30. Also ironic that he played his first game against us as well. He well and truely got me riled when he played us that year, I think even more so the second time we played them at Docklands. It was a game I thought we should have been more than compeditive in and should have won, but they rolled us again, BBB went on to kick a bag of 3 goals or so and all the comentators could talk about was how rubbish the MFC were, but how North had found a good player in BBB. Couldn't believe our luck when he chose to come to us when North pretty much gave home away only a year or so after he'd accumulated more goals over a 3 year period than any other player in the comp. My youngest son has a jumper with the No.50 on it. Congratulations BBB. 150 games and a premership player for the Red and Blue - you've done well.

  31. Shut down the internet, we got where we needed to go. Love all of this. Love premiership player BBB and love that he's racking up his 150th in red and blue

  32. It’s no wonder teams can’t score against us is it. Wondering where a player of Salem’s ilk fits back in is a ridiculous luxury. Brayshaw, May, Lever, Petty, Bowey, Rivers and Hunt is just an awesome array of back talent. Given Cameron’s role fr the lions and what he did to us in the final last year Hunt imo has to stay. It’s super super tough on either of them but it’s between JJ and Rivers. This is what it’s like when you’re the premiership team and 9-0 the following year! Gotta drink this in while the era lasts. You never know the length of time it will be.

  33. Always wanted Brown in our colors when he was with Norf. He will end up a dual or triple premiership player now. A nice bloke with lots of bling around his neck. Congrats Ben. And thanks for crossing over to us.

  34. When the grandstands are full, as they would have expected when WCE were a good team, there would be a lot of hot air boos to dry the ground. Now that they are 💩 there are too few booing feral Eagle fans for purpose.

  35. Melksham has been selected on merit, and isn't getting gifted a chance to play his 200th. The last 2 games he's played against WC rd 22 last year and the Hawks this year, he's played well. And he replaces a half forward in Harmes. Bedford was only selected for our starting 22 when Kossie was out. Those arguing that Bedford should be selected because he's younger are barking up the wrong tree. It's like those who continue to argue that we should be resting players against weaker opposition. Goody once again stated in his presser that we are still trying to perfect our synergies. When Viney was out, Dunstan came in. Selection has always been like for like, especially when we've had a ready made replacement in form.

  36. Exactly my first thought too: probably the closest like-for-like option available. I don’t mind it. Good luck to him, hope he gets to 200. He’s been an excellent servant of the club since coming over from Essendon.

  40. You've genuinely got to be [censored] kidding me right? We pick a bloke off the back of not playing last week being an emergency, over guys like Bedford who had the perfect opportunity to play consisten game time at AFL level. Even if it was Bailey Laurie to get a taste of AFL action. But no, we select a guy that's going to be 31 this year and we'll past his best at AFL level. Genuine [censored] selection and it's been obvious that Goody has been trying desperately hard to get his Essendon mate a game this past few weeks. Opportunity missed.

  43. I love that Ben Brown gets his 150 against his old team. Will be so nice to watch him kick more goals than their entire side. Happy with Melksham as the in, Dunstan a bit stiff.

  44. He’s not the most eloquent at the best of times - he very quickly referenced Melbourne and it’s ruthlessness in his first diatribe on this on SFS. We have been where Essendon is and I don’t have a problem with what Lloyd said, or what he meant.

  45. It’s been said multiple times but just how good has our trading been! Lever, May, Langdon and Brown. All of them add so much. When he came bk in last year he gave us the final piece in the puzzle imo. How we got him fr a mid second rounder still surprises me. Great bloke, great footballer. A pillar in our premiership side. congrats on 150.

  47. I really thought someone would have commented on the similarities between Roy and Jordan before now, or am I cracked? For a laugh, both were at 1st class teams before settling at struggling clubs, both considered hard men, both got slow, both know to verbal. And a shout out to Ted Lasso, incredible script etc, if you haven't seen it get around it. Adore that being decent can be a basis for a TV comedy, love watching it with my kids.
