  3. The only good thing about next years fixture is we don't have to play this years premiers.

  5. This Clayton Oliver podcast popped into my feed. He is in relaxed form and gives some insights into his early career and from the Grand Final. Credit to Dylan Buckley (I've never listened to his podcast before) he is a good interviewer.

  6. My early thoughts: We double-up against the Dogs, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle and Collingwood. That's three of the best four sides of 2021 other than us, plus a side who should be pushing for finals in 2022 (Fremantle). At first glance, that's brutal. However, almost every year one of the previous season's top sides falls away. It's a bit dangerous to read into the five return games. We will learn a lot more about the difficulty of our fixture as we see what happens with 5 and 6 day breaks. So far, in the first 9 rounds we've been given three 6-day breaks, two of which are back-to-back Hard to explain why we get three Wed/Thurs/Fri games in the first 9 rounds but the Dogs get six. We were the premiers, not them. Plenty of opportunities for more prime time games in the ones yet to be given a timeslot: Brisbane at the G off the bye is ripe for a Thursday night, and the games vs Geelong, Port, the Dogs, Collingwood and Brisbane the second time are all options It's farcical that we, again, play West Coast in Perth. Whilst I'd prefer not to have to play in Geelong, that game was a certainty after Round 23 this year. Pencil it in for a prime time slot absent one/both sides struggling We open the year in prime time at the G. A bit disappointing we have to close it on the road, but it's not wholly unjust This was the perfect year to send Richmond, Hawthorn, Carlton and/or Collingwood to Geelong. Instead, not a single one of them is forced to make the trip. The unfairness continues on that front Only one game out of Melbourne between Rounds 5-15 inclusive. A pretty good stretch

  7. Can't complain. Don't play any team twice who finished above us. And I reckon only playing the swans once is a good outcome.

  8. Maybe Sam Kerr can sort out the anomalies in the fixture. Sign her up now!!!!

  11. If I want to roll in negative sludge, this forum never fails to disappoint. If we are good enough (and we are), we will beat any team anywhere. And who really cares whether other teams get more night games or less interstate trips or less 5 and/or 6 day breaks when, on the last Saturday in September 2022, Max and Goody will once again raise the cup for us. Personally I'm stoked that we have ten of our first 14 games at the MCG. So by round 15, I will have a pretty good idea whether to stay in Melbourne or leave town to look after my dozen or so ski chalets.

  13. I live 500m from the GMHBA ground and never attend. Elitist club the Cats and any semblance of a reserved seat is $70 upwards. Many locals can't afford this. The crowd beahviour is appalling also. They NEVER fill the stadium because of this. Despite all the new Grandstands. One of which faces straight into the afternoon sun. The upside this year though is instead of Us being scared of who we play twice, you can bet all other team fans will be looking at how many times they play the Dees instead.

  14. Finally got my tickets booked in to see the Melbourne Demon's 2021 AFL Premiership Cup with my 72 year old Dad on the weekend of the 18th and 19th December and take some photos. Gonna cry a little...but only tears of joy! It will definitely be an emotional experience for me and my Dad. 😭 The fact that we have survived 57 years in the wilderness before finally breaking our Premiership drought is absolutely incredible. Just being able to survive as an AFL Club in 2012 and 2013 was an achievement. I am glad that we finally have those dark days behind us and we can hopefully look forward to more sustained success and further Premiership glory!

  15. Optus Stadium = 2 more home games.

  16. Given we were locked in to away games against Richmond and the Pies it's a great commercial draw. - First game of the season, that's huge. - 4 or 5 of the first 6 on free to air prime time - Essendon and Hawthorn as well as the grand final rematch in 3 of our first 4 home games = 3 big money spinners, all should go clear of 50k. - Coll and Carl for reliable big crowds at the back end of the season - Only 2 low drawing home games for the entire year in GWS and Freo, and the Giants game is locked in round 5 on a Sat night. Our sponsors get more exposure than they ever would've and that's without the end of the season tv fixture which we will figure in prominently if we are top 4. Our crowds - we can just about lock in 9 of 10 MCG home crowds over 30k I reckon if the GWS turn out is good. And there's got to be a strong chance we can go 6 of 10 over 40k given they are all against Vic teams and some big drawing ones at that. Most years our MCG crowds probably produce very little revenue apart from the blockbusters. This year we've got a chance to bank really good cheques in almost all games and then know we've got the 2 big blockbusters to come in 2023.

  17. 10 games at the G and 2 at Marvel. Considering we are hosting a game in NT that’s a good draw for me. I’ll be at 12 games, you beauty!

  20. I think a fairly tough draw. But we are premiers so you can.t complain too much except on one thing. [censored] geelong. I absolutely hate the busterds. Now if you look at the geelong fixture they play 4 melbourne teams down there and guess who they are ? Us, bulldogs, saints and north. This is a disgrace. The day I see the filth, esenscum, richmond and hawthorn play down there in a season it will be my final orgasmatron. It won't happen though.

  21. No premier gets an easy draw and anyways we are better off with a difficult fixture list. Toughens us up for finals. And remember we beat all the Top 8 last year other than the umpire influenced loss to the Doggies at the G. It's the lesser teams we struggled against.

  22. Lets take playing WC in Perth as a compliment. Won over the locals big time and hope to do it again?

  23. Good chance to really own some teams: the Dogs R1, Geelong, Port, Brisbane, West Coast away. We can win all of them and really get in their heads.

  27. It's a chance for Demons to extend the delight. First televised game - grand final replay - Lets make it a blockbuster TV event First game at the MCG - unfurl the flag in front of fans - Lets make it a bloblockbuster attended game First Saturday game at the MCG - repeat the family day content and entertainment outside the ground if necessary - repeat the unfurling and parade the cup - premiership players and full squad involved after game. Lets show the AFL that we are passionate and proud supporters who can watch TV and can watch replays but like to attend matches. Only Covid has affected our attendance. We will gather from far and wide and provide an economic stimulus to the city when we attend games.

  28. The Hawk supporters don't show up unless they are Premiership contenders and that's not likely. Most are really fair weather fans...they only have a few rusted on's and I reckon I know most of them.

  29. Interesting spin by the MFC In addition, our travel schedule, will allow a large number of our interstate members and supporters to get along to the football and see the Demons in action in their home states.

  30. I believe we will have many supporters to games in WA this year.

  31. The upside of these games (in bold above) is that we can make them 8 point games and put some serious daylight between them and us.

  32. From a selfish pov I’m glad we play twice in Qld as me and my fam will get to see us play live TWICE which is great. Playing in Perf, Adelaide or Geelong won’t concern us one bit as we all know we can win there and win well. Also Geelong are now our biatches and we have the mental advantage big time. GO DEES.

  33. if i was Gary Pert, i would be seething. This is not a good draw from a commercial perspective (Thu/Fri night footy) or from a general week-to-week proposition given we just won the GF - i dont know what else we need to proove. We play entertaining football. I don't mind playing the top teams twice - its only fair given we have 23 rounds with 18 teams. But to get WC and Geelong away yet again is farcical. WC doesnt phase me as it once has, but the Cattery is a hard place to win. We also don't play at our home ground for 5 consecutive weeks and have yet another final round game away. Seriously WTF.

  34. Every year people complain. Just win. That's what we did this year.

  35. Weird how it really holds no fears after the year we just had... Like that we have Lions, Dogs and Port twice, and twice Vs Pies is a great opportunity to scar them... ;)

  38. Absolutely. Every year this sort of thing comes out. It is just statistics trying to find a pattern, that doesn’t exist. @Wrecker46is spot on. You don’t get to play 100 games if you are no good. An ordinary player might get there in a struggling team. And to get to 100 games you have to play for 5 years. Success is achieved by having a big group of talent getting to that point together. But without talent they don’t get therein the first place. What this does show is the dire state of affairs at Adelaide. Their average player has just over 2 years experience, and that’s with Tex, Talia and Sloane! What is scary for others is we have just won a Premiership with 8 (9 including Jordon) players under 21.

  39. I wouldn't read much into it. When we were hopeless we bought in players like Vince*, Lamumba and Dawes which would have increased our age profile. * I love Vince Players normally get to 100 games if they are good footballers. But some get there cheaply if they play for struggling clubs. What you really want is your best footballers at around 100 games and a culture to get the younger players heading towards it.

  44. When I get the old “a friend of mine is a Melbourne supporter” I always go with the “oh ok! A friend of yours?!” With mirth in my voice. ”Well you tell them that it’s perfectly acceptable and they should feel comfortable showing their true feelings” I say with a wink. ”I hope your ‘friend’ enjoys the Dees next year” I say with a chuckle.
