  1. I visited the Sports Museum today. Had to queue for about 40minutes to get the photo but it was well worth it. We went full footy nuff 😂

  2. You’re right. I have been spending a lot more time on demonland since the flag. It is definitely in part due to just wanting to share the joy with other supporters, but it is also just much nicer to be here without all the fierce negativity and criticism. If they were just trolls…good riddance, if they were genuine supporters, I hope they can reinvent themselves with a more positive outlook and enjoy this fantastic time. I’m hoping for a dynasty but you can’t take anything for granted so we need to revel in what we have right now.

  3. This is nonsensical mate. PJ aimed lower because where he started was near rock bottom. Pert and co have built on those PJ foundations and looked to grow the club. The idea that we shouldn't aim to be a big club and aim to be a middling club instead is mindblowingly stupid and not at all in line with running a multi million dollar business in a multi billion dollar competition.

  4. Again the media being tone deaf. They are the ones that create the burden and excessive expectations by flogging the the Number 1 from both ends to generate clicks.

  5. Have a home base. No idea how close we are to getting it And an AFLW flag. I'd love to see Daisy and Paxy win one before bowing out. Reckon we're a great shout in 2022

  8. I like that we're trying to be the club that represents our city. If you call Melbourne home then we represent your city in the AFL and if you've just moved to Melbourne then we should be your team of choice, like they were for me.

  10. Four-peat. Indisputably the greatest club of them all.

  11. 1. Home base 2. 75,000+ members 3. AFLW flag 4. Massive home game attendance average. 5. Our 5 current main sponsors (Zurich, Hertz, Jaguar, Beyond Bank and New Balance) being locked in long term like Ford used to be with Geelong. I reckon we will lose NT connection to the thieves at Gold Coast due to AFL pressure. 6. Genuine Premiership contenders at least twice each decade (like Swans and Hawks).

  12. I reckon our performance from midway through the 3rd qtr in the the GF was the footy equivalent of Blitzkrieg

  13. We were scheduled for the 10am morning slot. We got to the G about 9:35 and walked to gate 3. There were about 10 or 15 people already lined up QR coding and showing their vax status. They were already letting people in one group at a time to show your ticket at the box office inside. We then proceeded into the museum and went directly to line up for the cup. We manage to get ahead of a few people as they were checking out some of the Museum exhibits. Only about 10 people in the cup line in front of us. The line progresses fairly quickly. I guess it depends on how many people in your group want an individual photo and then a group one. We had 4 in our group so it will take a little longer than an individual. They don’t hurry you along but it’s not like you get to take the cup out on a date. You take it in, take a snap and move on. When it’s your turn they give you an antiseptic wipe to wipe your hands. I’m not sure if that’s to protect the cup, protect you or protect others. You have to wear a mask in the museum but can take it off for the photo. As mentioned earlier you are told you can touch but not lift the cup. So in summary my best advice is to get there early particularly if you are in the morning group. I think we had had our photo before the actual start time of 10am.

  14. It is amazing the exodus of these people once we got to the mountain top. Pretty much confirming they were trolls.

  18. I was gonna say it’d be good to jettison the whole cheeseboard/Range Rover/Chalet stereotype but I actually don’t mind our club being regarded in this way. It’s infinitely better than being known for having an IQ as well as total number of teeth count both in single digits, for example But I do take umbrage with the whole snob/entitled/heads up our ars**es thing which is why I love that on the day after the GF Kate said this is the people’s Cup. She said we’re not gonna put it under lock and key and not let anyone touch it. Then she said that it had already sustained a tonne of dents and dings in just 24 hours. She wasn’t lying either: I saw it yesterday and yeah that Cup certainly ain’t “still in it’s original packaging.” 😁

  19. I see a story in today's hun about Richmond going green. It seems Jeep is no longer a sponsor. From the article it is not certain who flung who. With going green does that mean Richmond has requested no night games? Because think of all coal produced electricity that is used on night games. Surely they could not be party to that!

  25. Also along club lines is this article in today’s Melbourne Age:- How your club stands ahead of the 2021 draft MELBOURNE PICKS: 17, 37, 49, 57, 94 KEY DEFENDERS: Steven May, Jake Lever, Adam Tomlinson, Harrison Petty, Joel Smith SMALL/MEDIUM DEFENDERS: Christian Salem, Trent Rivers, Jake Bowey, Michael Hibberd, Jayden Hunt, Deakyn Smith, Daniel Turner MIDFIELDERS: Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver, Jack Viney, Ed Langdon, Angus Brayshaw, James Harmes, Luke Dunstan, Tom Sparrow, James Jordon, Oskar Baker, Fraser Rosman KEY FORWARDS: Ben Brown, Tom McDonald, Sam Weideman, Mitch Brown SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Bayley Fritsch, Kysaiah Pickett, Charlie Spargo, Alex Neal-Bullen, Bailey Laurie, Jake Melksham, Toby Bedford, Kade Chandler RUCKS: Max Gawn, Luke Jackson, Majak Daw It is an obvious take after a flag triumph, but the premiers could not be more primed for a sustained run at success. Headline midfielders Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver are only 25 and 24 respectively, while there is a mix of young and senior depth. Luke Dunstan provides an experienced back-up option as James Jordon and Tom Sparrow establish themselves. Precocious half-back winger Jake Bowey is yet to lose a game, Kysaiah Pickett is already one of the best pressure forwards in the league and Luke Jackson will be a frightening ruck prospect for the next decade. Winger-forward Blake Howes would offer something different with his height and athleticism, while Campbell Chesser would provide more slingshot and speed off half-back. Sam Butler could come into the Dees’ thinking as an attacking outside player. A key forward is not out of the question given the senior ages of Ben Brown, Tom McDonald and Mitch Brown, and West Australian Jack Williams would be a fine option if he slid into the third round. Melbourne are committed to father-son Taj Woewodin, who may not attract a bid until later in the draft. The son of Brownlow medallist Shane is skilful on both sides of his body and can adapt to multiple roles.

  28. No doubt in my mind that Watts was the correct call for the #1 pick in 2008. Had we have selected Naitanui, there is no way we would’ve drafted Gawn in 2009.

  29. Pretty sure it wasn't the media who drummed up Watts' debut on queen's birthday. I remember cringing as they played it up on the scoreboard before the game, showing him in the rooms, running onto the ground etc He was still in high school for heaven's sake.

  31. I’m not sure it’s limited to 40k. I don’t think the club expects more than 40k to attend. You have to remember that 2 months have passed since the Gf. If it was the very next day, it may have been different

  35. My other thought was - it's more scratched than I though it would be - although it has travelled half the country over the course of 2 months and been in the possession of and/or manhandled by a bunch of raving lunatics 99% of that time (present company not excluded lol). And my parting words to the cup: "Welp…see ya next year." That got a bit of a laugh from the group next in line, one of whom said "We don't want to become that kind of supporter." I think I sensed a bit of lingering MFCSS in his tone, as if I had just reignited some kind of…curse? I then viewed the 1957 and 1959 cups (beautiful), then paid my respects at Jim Stynes (still scarf-wearing) statue before heading home.

  39. The players we’ve been linked to (at this stage) appear to be in the similar mould...athletic & versatile. A benefit of having a reasonably balanced list is we’re in a really good spot to take the best of a certain type and plug them in wherever we may need them. Howes would be a good pick for us, Twomey also links us to some versatile hb types, which in time could give us the chance to have a look at Riv getting some mid rotation time.

  40. My 9 year old son, the only of my four that has any interest in footy, starts on a much different course to what I did. I was 9 in 1993 when we suffered defeat at the hands of the hopeless Swans for their only win of the year, and the flack I copped as the only Melbourne supporter at school was merciless. Like how the current players say they’re not scarred from the past because they weren’t here for it, neither will be the generation of kids growing up in this era.

  41. I have to agree with Dante. I don’t want to go to anymore games at the G where they barely bother to open the food stalls inside because there won’t be enough fans to make it economical. I’d love for our fans to have a deep connection to the club and be proud to be a member. In the last month I’ve lost track of the number of times someone has come up to me at the shopping centre or cafe while I’m wearing my demons cap and given me a quiet but intense ‘Go Dees’. I’d like more of that.

  42. Hi Waverley. I stopped over in Berlin for a few days when I moved back here from the UK in late 2014, renting an airbnb near the old Tempelhof airport that they had turned into the most amazing public park that incorporated the runways and old terminal building. I think they converted the place into a refugee camp for a little while recently. A fantastic city that had been on my list of places to visit for a long time.

  44. Yep. Was once again the underbidder of a busted up old bidet on a couple of square feet of earth a few clicks from the CBD. It ain't pretty out there. At least I've got the gf replay to drown out all my sorrows. But I'd mortgage the kids if I could and send the club a cheque if it meant keeping Kozzie and Jackson. Worth every quid.
