  5. It's another cricket reference. A long hop is a delivery that is short, slow and doesn't rise very high and which is easy pickings for the batsman - fruit for the sideboard, as the saying goes. I've come up with two possible answers to this pearler of a mindbender with all these cricket clues. 1. All the players named were cross-dressers and were caught in slips. 2. Because of their footy fame, they had no trouble bowling a maiden over.

  6. I would rather a Saturday night game on FTA. We have already lost so much money this year, it is important to at least keep the sponsors who are keeping us afloat happy. It's the next best outcome to having gate receipts.

  8. Why is this a bad thing? It's a Geelong home game and the only reason this game is supposed to be at the MCG is to allow more fans to attend. That's now irrelevant given the restrictions. It 100% should be in Geelong. Get as upset as you want about them passing us on the ladder, but this is fair.

  9. Winning ? is what people want to see MFC. Set high Standards every year. Certain Clubs are “up there” every season We must aspire to be one of them

  10. Giddy up. I’ve been told Hawthorn are scared of the dark so that should suit us.

  11. So these flogs have apparently requested a change of venue for their next round clash against Richmond moving it from MCG as scheduled to Geelong what a complete joke I really hope the AFL put them back in their tiny filthy box

  16. I look at Riewoldt who 2 days ago would have been planning to play his 300th home game at the G, run out with his kids and in front of the tiger fans. Instead he is at the gold coast without his kids. I just think how lucky we were able to celebrate Nathan Jones's 300th at the mighty G on a great night. But as much as it pains me, we need Richmond to win tonight to keep Brisbane off our backs.

  17. We are sent down there to play every single season. All other teams should have their turn as well. No matter if it is a capacity crowd, a small crowd or no crowd at all.

  18. AVB is going to be useful if the Hawks go the bash, as expected. Aaron will have an opportunity, despite the possibly poor weather conditions, to be a presence and a pillar of strength. He does contribute to making us a better team and has recently been playing really well after recovery. Best wishes for a good game, Aaron.

  25. The AFL is expected to flip its Saturday fixture to turn Melbourne-Hawthorn into a prime time clash but still expects St Kilda-Port Adelaide to be played at Marvel Stadium. The league is working through government protocols about isolation as it assesses whether the Power can still fly into Melbourne on Saturday. The game is slated for 7.25pm but the Herald Sun understands it is likely to be turned into an earlier fixture in either the 1.45pm or 4.35pm slot. It would allow St Kilda to fly into Adelaide and out on the same day, or the Power to fly into Melbourne and get out by the Saturday night Adelaide Airport curfew. The league said on Friday it still expected the game to go ahead on Saturday at Marvel Stadium in front of no crowds. But the Melbourne-Hawthorn game will be announced as the only night contest on Saturday. Port Adelaide could fly into Melbourne for a 1.45pm clash but if St Kilda flew into Adelaide the league would need to fixture a twilight game to give authorities enough time to turn around negative Covid tests upon their arrival. Port Adelaide was originally expected to fly into Melbourne on Friday night but as of late Thursday was still in the dark about its travel plans. If the South Australian health authorities allow a fly-in fly-out mission on Saturday with limited quarantine for the Power players upon return, the game will go ahead in Melbourne. But the Power is anxiously awaiting clarification on whether it would simply need its players to isolate until a negative Covid test or need a more exhaustive isolation period. Victorian sides which flew into South Australia in recent weeks needed a 60-hour quarantine period before they flew west and then had to have a negative Covid test on the day of the game when they arrived in Adelaide. The fixture changes come as seven teams were evacuated from Covid-hit Melbourne in what is looming as a nerve-racking 12 hours for the AFL.

  29. Geelong are the biggest bunch of sooks in the game. I can still remember in late 2013, Geelong were having their usual cry to the media about their home finals needing to be played in Geelong. Fremantle were their opponents in Week 1 and Ross Lyon was asked at a presser for his thoughts on where the game should be played. "Who cares? We'll play them in a carpark if we have to." was his blunt response. Fremantle went and beat them at Kardinia a few days later. I expect our attitude towards the rest of this season will be more in line with Ross Lyon's and not the sooks down the highway. They are also the only team with players and coach openly sooking to the media about the length of quarters. Just shut the [censored] up and be prepared to win anywhere, any time. Muppets. As you may have guessed, this current vintage of Geelong is my most hated AFL team ever.

  32. We' d have a better chance of boosting percentage if we played under the roof at Marvel. We will beat them wherever and whenever it's played but dry conditions would be more conducive to the thrashing Hawthorn deserve.

  33. This has been my most enjoyable year as a demons member. 2018 was enjoyable but very up and down (biggest downer being the debacle at optus). We've been reliable and consistent. We've never been reliable and consistent before. Let's hope we can top it off with a flag but even if we don't this year has been a huge step forward for the club

  34. Amazing effort in Covid ravaged year however success on the field is always the catalyst for membership no's. Hopefully the 12,000 new members this season are half new and half resigning from previous years. If so it gives confidence for the future to reach day 60,000 next season with hopefully A big new Cup and Flag to add to our dozen already coveted. Congratulations to every member who has helped the Club achieve this ground breaking target.

  36. I really don't care how many wins we have in the season so long as we win the Grand Final in 2021 and the players can say the played in the 13th premiership team for the MFC.

  40. Percentage could be the difference between a home or inter-state qualifying final. We have to put our foot on the Hawks throat tomorrow. I know its not our style, and we shouldn't take the Hawks lightly, but we need to show the same ruthlessness as Geelong and really put a team to the sword And seeing the cats on top of the ladder has ruined the start to my day

  42. The VFL is a complete sham of a farce. It’s not their fault but Southport is currently in second place with nine games for eight wins. That sounds like a fantastic record in any competition and the Sharks could not have done much more to get into that position. But ... They were drawn to play the lowly Northern Bullants this week in what I considered a danger game for them. Why? The Bullants have won a few games of late and are playing with great spirit and look at who Southport have played to date - Round 1 Carlton (14th) win by 1 point Round 2 Apsley (21st) win by 14 points Round 3 UWS Giants (8th) lose by 30 points Round 4 North Melbourne (18th) win by 107 points Round 5 Apsley (21st) win by 109 points Round 6 Gold Coast (15th) win by 83 points Round 7 Northern Bullants (17th) postponed Round 8 Sydney Swans (19th) win by 15 points Round 9 Bye Round 10 Brisbane Lions (16th) win by 107 points Round 11 Gold Coast (15th) postponed Round 12 Bye Round 13 Brisbane Lions (16th) win by 109 points Round 14 Northern Bullants (17th) postponed/bye To come Werribee (10th), Coburg (13th) Frankston (6th) and (for the third time this year) ... Brisbane Lions who they’ve beaten twice by more than 100 points. This needs no further comment.

  44. How embarrassing are Freo? No forward structure, no real forward target all night, even when Lobb was on the ground. Geelong's pressure has been good, but their ball use and decision making hasn't been remarkable. Freo are just a rabble. Whatley really whacked them on 360 this week and rightly so. All they beat the last 4 weeks were Hawthorn, Carlton and Collingwood. And now they've given Geelong a huge percentage boost. We must pummel Hawthorn on Saturday.
