  1. Mmmm, a vulnerable post. My father died of MND 5 years ago last Thursday, just as I became a father (and he had his first grandchild), and had a relationship with Neale, through Daniher's Drive . Previously because of my unwillingess to attend to the G for The Big Freeze, I've headed to Alice to honour the old bloke and watch a match live around the date of his death. In a somewhat hilarious course of fate, it's taken me around 5 years to have the courage to head to the 'G' to celebrate the life of my father, and honour the work that Neale and the entire community that facilitates Fight MND have committed to do. I've often envisaged myself sitting at the ground, sobbing, overwhelmed with the occasion, and most likely heading to the Bullring to have copious amounts of pints throughout a game. This year, I felt as though I've worked through a lot of my unresolved grief, to a space of being joyous about turning up to the G, and marking his absence, by taking my 5 year old up to the ground to watch the Wiz go down the slide and have yet another generation support the red and blue and mark it with a solid [censored] win against the Pies. Anyway, best laid plans and all of that... I'll be putting my days outing cost (train ticket, plus beer, plus food, plus gate, plus more beer) into a MND donation tin/online somewhere instead.

  3. A great kid who's been playing for the bushies and Albury Tigers alongside our very own Daniel Cross and Jeff Garlett. An intercept defender who reads the play extremely well. The fact he's played against men puts him in the frame at some stage this year.

  5. He's your typical country lad. Aggressive in the air and and strong one on one. Likes to peel of and take a good intercept mark but his reading of the play is one of his strengths. As I said before, pretty courageous as well. He's been mixing it well with the Albury Tigers seniors who are currently sitting top. They breed them really tough down there and he's a bloody tough young fella.

  6. Heart goes out to those in Victoria (and for those in missing the game in the NT). However, for those based in Sydney it's a great opportunity to see the team at the peak of their powers. Having grown up in Sydney during the 1980's, when most people in Sydney thought the VFL was some strange new STD, this game is huge. Friday night, top of the table, peak form having just reclaimed the top of the table. Honestly – it doesn't get any bigger. So, my message to all the NSW Demons – get there. We have a responsibility to carry the flame for our Southern brethren. I want to see every damn demon supporter there – young and old, rusted-on or bandwagon jumper, Matt Doran or Hamish Blake – I don't care. As long as you're in Sydney and a Demons supporter, that's all that matters. At 2pm today hit up Ticketmaster! Let's make some noise.

  7. Turner family, welcome to the Dees. No doubt you will eventually read Demonland. Please excuse us for being a mouthy and critical lot. We mean well even if it doesn't seem that way. I can only imagine your pride at having a son drafted to an AFL club. Soak it up, enjoy the moment and encourage your boy to embrace the "team first" ethic that has put us on top of the ladder. Go Dees.

  9. Still can't work out why they don't move the Melbourne v Collingwood game to the following round when both teams have the bye. There's some reasonable chance they will be able to play at the MCG in front of crowds by then. At worst, they do what they would otherwise do.

  10. Welcome to the club boys. On a side note, there has been reports that Mac Andrew, our NGA player in the draft this year could be bid on before pick 20 which would mean we would not be able to match the bid. 5 clubs picked up pure rucks with 2 more picking up Ruck/Fwds. Hopefully the majority impress which should prevent clubs from taking a punt on a ruck with a top 20 pick.

  11. I'm very fortunate that lockdown is only inconvenient for me - unlike for many whose livelihoods are affected or have kids in home schooling but ... On my morning exercise walk 1/3rd of people not wearing masks. We have 2 Covid sites in the neighbourhood but about 20 people assembled outside the local cafe waiting for their take-away coffee - chatting, half a metre apart - no masks. Multiply by a thousand Melbourne-wide. Selfish, thoughtless people who think they are special and the rules don't apply to them. This is a big reason why there is lockdown and extended lockdown. Don't get me started on unvaccinated aged care workers - what they're thinking beggars belief.

  13. Daniel Turner is a key defender at Murray Bushrangers. Is 18 and according to his coach has grown to 194. Averaging 18 disposals and is in the NaB team of the year from Afl draft . Com - and can kick.

  14. He'll certainly make a strong contribution for Casey. Will take him a few weeks to adjust to the tempo but he's a proven hard worker and quick learner as well. Really stoked for him.

  16. So Jeff Kennett has come out and said , it's all a disaster, too hard to make happen and we should call the season off. I say having been through the years of non-competitiveness and having to watch Hawthorn win flag after flag he can suffer through. In fact I think he should be strapped to a chair and have his eyelids pried open and watch the Hawks 2021 season on repeat, for the rest of the year. Happy days Jeff. I hope you get the opportunity to remain president for 3 of the next 5 spoons. Wouldn't that be lovely.

  19. Ok, so I guess we've now seen what the coaching team sees as the weak point (depth wise) of our list. Declase is a mature body, and bloody hell anyone who can roost a goal from inside the center square gets my attention. Turner is more the style/age of player I thought we would chase. A young "late developer" Don't know anything about them so won't get excited, but based on our recent recruiting efforts, maybe we should all smile a bit.

  21. Excellent interview with Nibbler.. I didn’t know he was told last year he could look around for other opportunities. He goes onto to say how he dealt with that and how, this year, he is in the leadership group. Along with his mum he loves our club. I love that he is in career best form If you are interested the guts of the interview starts around 31.50 https://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/950239/gus-and-gawny-alex-neal-bullen?videoId=950239&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1622541600001

  23. Supporting the club - I have been a paid up member (plus family memberships) for 28 of the last 30 years, I have continued being a member even though in the last 15 years I have only had the chance to attend 3 games. I wish to make sure that I can attend the Grand Final if we make it. I was unable to garner any help from the ticketek website. Sadly I have let my MCC membership lapse as well I didn't see myself retiring in Australia, and might realistically use it 10 times in the next 20 years (I should live so long). All though it does sting.

  31. Would make sense. If they made it a week, it would lift Friday week. And then after 2 weeks in lockdown people are going to want to get out and about, including on the public holiday Monday. Very frustrating, but probably good risk management. Throws the bombers clash into doubt crowd wise The Feds should come to the party, get as much vaccine to victoria as possible and support the vic gov to have use the lockdown period to vaccinate as many people as humanly possible. use the army to support Starting with the poor buggers in disability accommodation, aged care facilities and all the related front line workers. Set an ambitious goal. Make it a war footing. And vaccinate Victorians. This is not state issue. This is a national issue. For Christ sakes we are a country, not a series of self governing islands. The feds need to step up. Leaving potics aside it is an abject moral fail that the feds have not sorted the vaccination to the disability accommodation, aged care

  36. For those that think bringing Oscar Baker back into the side, here is my take. Baker is the Billy Stretch or JKH of the team- shows a bit of promise in the twos. Comes into the senior side for a game. Not up to it. Gets dropped for a month or two. An injury occurs so he gets promoted again, and the cycle goes on until he is delisted after 4 or 5 years. He has been with Melbourne for 4 years and unlike many players who have been recruited since 2018 cant cement a spot. Skills and endevour not up to it IMO.

  37. When the game was scheduled for Alice, we had arranged for a dozen family and friends to gather at our place (Canberra) to watch the game. That arrangement is still going ahead. Mrs DOF commented this morning, that there’s a chance there will be more spectators in our lounge room, than there will be at Giants Stadium.

  38. These two are possibly the flag favourites at the moment. Dogs peaked early and with that loss against us, will fail the second half of the season, IMO. We haven't had to fight a serious game for a while now. That ability to hang in there and come from behind for a win, which we did early in the season, is so good for our confidence and self belief. I predict a see-sawing game. Hoping we can come back at them if they get a run on. Leading into the break, this is a danger game. Win it, and we are all smiles, lose, and we have to continue the build. Will need some enforcers, get a few on the angry pills.

  39. For me I'd say yes. Have noticed more and more as time goes on this season, that with T Mac, it's not just about the big marks and timely goals he so reliably nails inside 50, but his work around the ground and delivering inside 50 in particular is elite in my view. For a big bloke, he chases and tackles pretty good too.
