  1. Cmon nev, you know how important good communication with fans is. Sure it was a VFL practice match. But what does that mean in this context? Its not some random VFL practice match with some dees players running around to get some match fitness and touch (eg for Sandringham a few years back pre Casey Scorpians). The Casey DEMONS are our reserves team. One of the three teams that make up the demons. We made a strategic decision to not go down the Richmond path and create our own VFL team. Instead as a club we made the call to strengthen the alignment with Casey. Casey changed their a name (which would have caused much angst at casey), linkied the coaching, new jumper and dees song. We train there have financialy invested in the club and have committed to the club and region. Leaving aside the fact that this match was the last meaningful opportunity for some key players to make a case for round one selection, and that there has been reduced practice games and no training access, not letting fans know about the game is not supportive of the Casey Demons. Our reserves team. Apparently. And for Pete's sake how hard would a short piece on the website ahead of the game be? Maybe as sue suggests they didn't want people there but they could still say its on and who is playing. And send Ben Gibson down to report on it. Or the media intern they advertised for. The one they said they wouldn't pay. Another command own goal. Jeez, good communication is 101 for businesses (which we are). A stated club goal is to build our membership base. Sure the die-hards like us will be members but for those fans who are ambivalent about shelling out 200 plus dollars surely good communication is an important part of the value proposition? Particularly for a club that is giving fans finals and has no home base. Like I said if this was a one off then no big deal. But it ain't. Far from it. They had improved considerably in the 2020 preseason period but gone backwards again since. And money is no excuse. Good comms don't need flashy, expensive videos. Just timely information through channels thst are basically free, other than staff time. I hardly ever go to the club's website for info. Which is ridiculous. I would but it is hopeless. I come to demonland. Which is how I found out gus, kozzie and hibberd were playing and therefore some chance to play in out critical round one game. And to learn daw might be some chance too.

  2. Can we talk about how bloody good Tyla Hanks is?! Her decision-making and execution is outstanding. She would be leading our b&f and is now one of the best players in the league. So smart and clean.

  3. Not a lot of good following on twitter would have done people anyway. I found out about the game at about 10 min before it started last night when I made the effort to go to Box Hill's twitter to see if they had any info because I was free to go if it was today. I follow both Melbourne and Casey on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram as well as Melbourne on YouTube and as we know nothing on the website or via email. Nothing from any of them until the game had already begun. In fact the earliest communication was Casey's first tweet that came with a photo showing it was already 24 minutes into the first qtr and Melbourne's only communication was a retweet of that very post an hour after that. I understand when they withhold injury information despite how frustrating it is. But this is just crap. A simple tweet from both saying "Casey boys playing Box Hill at Casey Fields tonight. Unfortunately this will be closed to the public. Updates and a match report to follow" Would have been enough info surely. A team list would have been a bonus. But nothing at all? As for Ben, He's around working mostly on AFLW stuff at the moment. They did release an AFLW "Before the Bounce" video last night with Libby and Ben

  4. And please nev. That tweet you linked, seemingly the ONLY comms about the match by the club was posted at 8.23pm. Which presumably was after the match started. And I'm guessing after someone at the club saw or heard about the disquiet here. And received all of 9 likes. Viral. Not.

  5. Oh look ... a practice match where one team had half a dozen or so of its AFL listed players and the other team had none and the game turned out to be a bit of a mismatch. Reminds me a bit of a game played at Marvel Stadium last week. Anyway, a premiership awaits Casey and it’s season over for Box Hill.

  6. i think it's a bad idea. what makes a concussion so much more important than an acl or a shoulder or hammy that it requires a 23rd man. same deal with any other injury imo if u get a concussion bad luck ur out for the game and u can't be replaced otherwise replace all injuries and if thats the case it should only be valid for injuries in the first quarter because after that it is a big difference having an extra set of wheels just join in the action

  7. Kossie has enormous upside, especially when he fully adjusts to the AFL tempo of games. IMO Chandler has some upside and we will see this year how he goes if given chances. Spargo I am more concerned about. He is small like the others but to me just doesn't seem to be improving. Not quick, not tall, not a great mark, not a long kick, drifts in and out of games and aside from a few games has been underwhelming. I think this is his year to grab a spot or maybe struggle to stay on our list. As I have said before, barring injury Jones will get to 300, but we might see a retirement soon after that. While still talented, he has slowed down both in foot speed and decision making and turnovers are just too costly in the modern game. However, I would still play him ahead of Spargo, so that speaks volumes of where I see Spargo at. I think BTW we are seeing the last of Jetta, who has become very slow and I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire mid season or play out the year at Casey helping the younger players on the list. We need BB and Weid back and firing ASAP.

  8. From what I have seen at Training and in view of what he did yesterday in the practice match, If I were the match commitee I would definately roll the Dice and play him next week vs Freo! No doubt in my mind he is ready! Some serious X factor at play, Freo would not be expecting it and it really stretches them down back!

  9. Frankly after 35 years as a member, most of which has been premium family at a high cost, I could not be more disinterested in the MFC at the moment. Fatigued by too many false starts for anyone as a football supporter. so far this year there has been sweet little to get enthused about and for the first time in 35 years I won’t make a decision on membership until after the first 3 games. I have had a gutful of the over promising and undelivering.

  10. In addition you potentially have a player who effectively sits out for a week and does not get Match practice/fitness by not playing in the 2s.

  11. What a fantastic evening that was at the footy. There was one way to describe how the girls played this evening and that is the old saying of guts. Plenty of it. Adelaide are a strong side who move the ball quickly but our girls never gave them room and tackled fiercely. If I was Goodwin I would sit the senior side down this week to watch that performance. I can't think of a bad player for us with maybe Cunningham struggling in the wet. Having said that Pearce and Zanker were 2 talls who were close to BOG. However I have to give that title to Hanks. She is a superb player. Paxman ( as always )' Gay and Hore were fantastic but I really liked the game of Lampard and Heath. They were terrific in defence. My coopers pale ale is tasting really good now.

  12. Great to see Daw get amongst it. I doubt we’ll see him next weekend but could be ready in a few weeks. After a match and a half at VFL level, Gus would have to be a starter against Freo. With Viney out, he’ll get a good run in the middle. Shocked to see Hibberd played! I thought he was amongst the least likely to have recovered and had barely been out of rehab. Again, full VFL match suggests he’ll play round 1. Will be interesting to see what happens with Kossi next weekend. Missed a lot of the preseason and Chandler played quite well in his role. There may be room for both, but I feel it’s one or the other. Hopefully he’s pulled up ok today. I think we’ve found a player in Bowey. No rush to get him on the seniors immediately, but he may be knocking on the door sooner rather than later.

  13. I know fairy tails only happen to the Bulldogs and Richmonds of this world but wouldn’t it be nice if this fella can have a major break out season after the adversity he’s been through. We gave a Bennell a chance, it didn’t work out. Hopefully we’re due some good karma with this one.

  14. Good call. That simply has to inspire the men's team. Who would have thought ten years ago a women's dees team would be showing a men's team want getting angry is reallt all about. Go dees

  18. He played rubbish on the weekend but apparently has improved this year, at training anyway. He is not slow, nor soft and is actually one of our better kicks. Needs more time to really believe he belongs at the level, he deserves the time to develop though. You will get plenty of chances to love or hate him as he will play a lot over next few years. He will become really important player for us.

  19. Q 1 When is a stick not a stick?? (Answer at the end) Q Does a Picket Fence standing behind a Cyclone Fence constitute an oxymoron? "Try not to stay too static or cute, bananna's decay to brown, squashy fruit! Change is the seed to personal growth, a call to seek your directional oath. And submit to lifes challenges those on the field, results in success a valuable yield!" PF 2021 What a magnificent day to be at training. Reminded me of........ Thursday 4th September 1987 venue JUNCTION OVAL at 4.00 pm approx. 34 years ago. There were thousands there watching the John Northey coached Demons emabark on there last training session before the elimination final vs Nth Melbourne. Why do I bring this up now? Read on..... Training summary, Drills, Skills and Manuevers All drills simulated match conditions and particularly handball run and carry, precise use of the football, taking the game on, pace, pressure and class. All the BIG GUNS were there, Robby, Jim, Big Earl, Yeata, Bails, Strawbs, Danny, Stretcha, Warren Dean, Stephen Newport, Balls Grinter, Dirty Dave Williams, Willo, and what do you know, training was exemplary, exciting, flashy, and done at 100% There were no errors, players were just sublime and skills was the highest I have seen ever! I will never forget it, Nor will anyone else who was also there . Ah sweet dreams are made of these! Who am I to disagree!? Segue Friday 12/3/2021 Perfect day perhaps a tad hot and every known flying insect was also on hand witnessing proceedings, here is my report. ALERT DRONE AHEAD Yep thats right first thing I saw was a drone hovering above players training of course obligatory house music was a Tad better than previous sessions with Jazz influenced seductive grooves emanating from the cavernous sound system. Ahhh that's better NO SHOWS Quite a list Steven May, Majak Daw, Adam Tomlinson, Kossie, Rosman, Weeds, and I also didn't see Vanders or Hibbo, they may have been there but did/nt see them. Also didn't see Bowey but did see Deakyn Smith and I think Baily Laurie walking laps. Also not sure if Gus was in attendance REHAB Ben Brown, Joel Smith , Christian Salem SKILLS DRILLS AND MANEUVERS 1 HOT POTATO/DODGEBALL Consisted of two teams orange and blues all creating options for handball under extreme pressure close in 2 KAMIKAZE RUN AND CARRY Players in criss cross formation choosing cotrect option and giving of with precise handball and or kick 3 TACKLE -GRAPPLE Close in contact ball in flight and grabbing player at moment he gets ball 4 CORRIDOOR MATCH SIMULATION Two teams orange/whites shirts vs Blues in whole ground almost with rectangle boundaries running the ball up and down corridor. 5 QUARTER CORRIDOOR MATCH SIM Same as above but using a 20 meter rectangle to work in OBSERVATIONS Probably the best thing for me was Ben Brown stepping up his training routines he ran laps kicked the footy and looked unhampered and pretty darn fit. His legs look definitively muscly Best trainers today were Nibbler, Clarry, Jacko , Max, Langdon and special mentions to Melky who looks over his injuries. Jack Viney also looked good and although apparently he has been ruled out match 1 he does look almost ready to go. Mitch Brown also joined in main group and moved well but left training slightly early. The intensity of training was better today than wednesday and the integrity and intent seemed to be quick movement, choosing best options and delivering the ball seamlessly. As we know though you can train the house down and still be found wanting in the cauldron of real match pressure. The downsides were the players missing. I think Steve May would have to be doubtful and I'm not sure I would risk Christian Salem at this piont. Thats about it and before I forget the answer to above question When is a stick not a stick? when its a Given I saw one today I broke my personal best 100 m dash time and beat a hasty retreat P.F

  20. If not then they don't understand their fans. Which is a worry. Even if most don't care, some obviously do and for basically no effort or cost they could have made the effort to at least post some pre game info on the club websites. I don't care about a box at the g but still get that spamming up my email And it wasn't the reserves of the reserves. Was the best team Casey could put out.

  21. Far out guys. It was a VFL practice match. Settle down. Plenty of updates pointed to by the club.

  22. Jesus... ? It was a VFL practise match. They weren't even taking stats. The Casey Demons twitter account posted quarterly updates re what was going on, who was getting involved..etc. I'm not going to provide the link, cause I'm sure if people cared as much as their complaining would suggest, they'd have already found it by now. Wasn't hard.

  24. Sorry sue, I could care less about the hawks but there is simply no excuse. Mwmbers are the key stakeholders. Many of us didn't ask for money back last year. Those that did likely had to because they needed the money. To not provide information about tgis game is a total joke. If it was a one off then maybe you give the club a pass. But it unfortunately it isn't. Apet from respecting the fans such poor communication is just rubbish business. What makes it worse is the covid related cuts are no excuse. These days content is basically free. Send Ben Gibson down take a few grainy photos, maybe a video on the phone and 25 tweets. And alerting fans to the game even less effort and time.

  25. All very well for the club propaganda to say the players are angry about 2020: not half as angry as the loyal, “thick and thin” lifelong supporters who have been treated like irrelevancies by the club in not sharing the fact that some important players were pushing for selection tonight.

  27. Yep, the blokes should be watching that performance. Hard gut running footy. Great tackling and pressure acts like that wins every time. Really proud of the women tonight. I think they would have mentally scarred the crows tonight. Ive always thought our poor skills are one of our main problems for the men. But watching this game just reminded me how important agression and pressure is. Just awesome.

  28. That was a great win in the context of the season and in our history. To the Casey Sh. 18 doubters please keep the faith, she is getter better and better. And Zanker to the middle has been such a positive, thanks Mick. Speccy Magee's best game too. Hanksy is such a gun and was ripped off with that 'goal'. Our Girls played with real spirit tonight and it certainly lifted mine !

  37. Do you have any confidence he'll be able to play more than 2 quarters of "AFL home and away footy" before he runs out of gas? If he can't then he can't be selected.

  38. But in fairness Melksham was so bad last year for a senior player, we should be better off without him. Unless he has pulled the finger out over preseason

  39. Sooooo, comms issues aside, sounds like Gus, Kozzie, Vanders and Daws has good games, are ready and have put their hands up for round 1. I like to hear that Kozzie is spending time in the middle, as his agility and skill can be dynamite in congested spaces. Does Daws come in for Jackson or TMac? Did Hibbard play full 4-quarters with intensity, and is he ready? good signs.

  40. I agree. it is bad luck for the team and the player for any injury that stops them taking the field. That's why overtime we have risen to 4 interchange players. The flexibility is already in the system.

  43. I've always made a point of not criticizing the MFC on here, but the absence of any information about this match, with senior selections potentially hinging on it, is shameful. It disrespects us supporters who, after all, are the lifeblood of the Club. Grrrr!

  44. I don’t care what Max or anyone else says. Preferably don’t say anything at all, well not until you can win games of footy, and, hopefully, consecutively, even try winning a string of games. Then try winning enough close games to be in the bloody 8 at season end. Try winning finals games. Words no longer mean anything. But how do you feel? How will you feel at the end of your career if you are associated with a team of losers, a club that attracts derision. Is a laughing stock. You may have lots of money, but how will you feel about your footy career? Will you feel a failure, will your team mates feel that they are failures ? Or will you and the Coach simply move on? Will you get over it as you and your team mates sip on your Pinot Noir in the wine bar and blame others? Just win games, win the close ones. Until then I will mute the sound coming from you and Simon or the next coach’s mouth. I will not bother reading what you have to say. I will remain totally detached and increasingly lose interest in the season. I will forever remain loyal but I will have lost the emotion I have for my team. I will remain detached. I will take more interest in other clubs and the results of other games. It will be purely of academic interest as to what happens. All of us Demons want to see you as the new Richmond. Tough, resilient, successful and proud. Do you have it in you?

  45. I try to take what’s said with a pinch of salt at this time of year, the players need to sell the club a bit. But I really sometimes wish they’d just shut up and get on with showing it on the field. I’d frankly be angry if they weren’t angry with how they did last season. Forget limping into 8th, they should be aiming for top 4 and anything less is disappointing. If not then what the hell are they doing with themselves.
