Deserves 6 games, more than any other current demon and will get them barring injury, as we have several injured players who have opened spots up for the first few games. However, he looked really slow on Friday, like the end of last season and his turnovers were very costly. His reaction has obviously slowed with age and in lightning fast modern footy, it can be a game killer. I look forward to him breaking the banner in his 300th, but think he will struggle if we have a pretty full list to add to that total. He has been a champion of the club in difficult times and his loyalty will see him remembered as a great of the club. Well done NJ. Hopefully there is a bit more left in the tank.10 points

You have to remember that back in 1965, the Demons were “the Team.” Half the footy population loved us and the rest hated us. We had a huge supporter base and most kids who barracked for the Dees wore 31 on their back. So when Ron went to Carlton, the impact was seismic. The shock that went through supporters and the footy world was of a magnitude that has not been felt since. Dismay and tears were the order of the day. Times have changed so that if Dusty was to leave the Tigers the impact would be like a wind change rather than an earthquake. Despite Ron leaving, the respect for Ron continued. That’s really something. Respect. There has been no one like Ron. Simply, The Legend.10 points

Can I open the bowling and just say, has there ever been such a meteoric rise and richly deserved 100 games ever in MFC History?? What a Brilliant inside modern day Midfielder we have. Dual B&F, All Australian and we hope a Demon for ever more. Congratulations Young man Cheers and best of luck P.F9 points

Wow. I know people lived to hate him in recent years, but he was a true gentleman of the game and a colossus in his commentating role. I’m may well be alone in this but I’ll miss him.6 points

Hes doing his own training and also training with a SANFL club. But he's way off AFL training fitness and will need a couple of weeks to get up to standard. He's been away from the club for over a month now. His mums funeral is not until the 5th of March which is a Friday. First game is not until the 20th. He won't be ready for round 1. Chandler and Spargo are ahead of him as it stands and rightly so.5 points

No he mustn't. He hasn't trained for a month and is still in S.A from all reports. Chandler and Spargo are ahead of him.5 points

I cut my Friday night footy watching by 50 percent when Dennis Cometti finished calling that game each week. I'll now only watch Friday night if the Deez are playing, and only with the volume down. Bruce, at certain times toward the end of his career, became a parody (mostly of himself), but this shouldn't detract from the brilliant broadcaster he was for the vast majority of his career. And he helped revolutionise the analysis of the game for seven years (1995-2002) as host of the original Talking Footy. To this day, the benchmark in footy chat shows IMHO. Good on you Bruce, footy can only be watched now with the volume turned down . . . that's the greatest tribute of all my friend.4 points

I agree with everyone on here Clayton Oliver showed star quality from day one, he just keeps getting better with each game. I have followed the Dee's for 60 odd years and cannot remember a better first 100 games than Clarry. He has another level in him and as we add more quality around him he will show the footy world why we Dee supporters love him so much.!!!!!!!!!!!!4 points

Melksham and Brayshaw's injuries and Pickett being away have opened up a chance for Jones but so far it's just a chance. The one thing I find hard to rate with Jones is that his disposal can be shaky but he does still find the ball. We've had guys at half forward go quarters on end without touching it. Obviously can't turn it over if you don't have it to begin with. I really hope he's truly on board with the possibility of missing 300 and his desire is to see the team succeed. The team having success and Jones sacrificing a milestone to ensure that would really enhance his legacy more than 300 IMO. To stay loyal through the dark years, captain the club and then put the club first at the end would be a career fans would remember for a long time.4 points

He looked 'lost' for most of the practice game against Richmonds B and C graders. I can't see him being given a rookie spot based on that performance. If possible, I'd like to see him get a spot on the Casey list for the upcoming season. That way we could ensure that he has a specifically tailored work program and see how he progresses. Maybe a list spot next year IF he shows enough.4 points

What's the go with this? You posted this two weeks ago, Tim Lamb on the weekend said none of the 3 players who are training with us have been offered a spot as of yet and a decision is still yet to be made. After watching Farmer on the weekend I would completely shocked if he made the list. Looked a long way off it.4 points

DD Great call Clarry played his best IMPACT game IMO since 2018. Didn't make a mistake or fumble or ditch out a Hot potatoe handpass. The three things I loved among a great day at the office yesterday from him were: 1. Marking strongly on outer wing About 3 gems that ensured the ballot kept going in our direction late in the game. 2. That centre gather sidestep and handpass to Trac then regather AND LONG kick wind assisted GOAL had not one bit of selfishness about it being pure TEAM play. Ooze and Clarry take a bow! 3. His RUN out of DEFENCE in 3 Rd quarter was Breathtakingly fast enough to give opposition a wake up call he was serious about moving this ball forward to score when he kicked it Yo a teammate. This is the level he can go to just like Trac has done by valuing possessions.Gus needs to follow to fulfill his talent. Over to you Gus and Ooze.4 points

it's all so subjective i have only really been following / obsessing over us since the mid 1980s or so, so only saw the tail end of flower gawn is a colossus for mine top 5 since 85, or so: gawn neitz lyon jakovich schwarz oliver is tracking beautifully to be ahead of several on that list, whilst trac could do if they win premierships they'll go up in everyone's estimation4 points

He is great with the Athletics and horse racing, however his footy commentary in recent years has been horrible. I wish him well. But let's hope a new generation of commentators comes through that actually call the action that is happening rather than repeating the same tripe each week and maintaining obvious biases3 points

Virtually 2 seasons of no output from both Melk and AVB and I have stated we need to move on from our 2018 heroes If time has passed them by. A block of games with Casey may sting them and let's see if they respond. Youngsters can be managed Over the season and our small forwards and runners stocks are rising. The time IS NOW To change our group to the future and place our faith with our new coaches to improve this team like it was on Friday. Form is still important and injuries relevant in any selections. RB Our list is developing and our game plan looked solid vs Tigers. We have 5/6 now approaching A graders with some good players out injured still and others now approaching B graders if they maintain their form plus role players doing their job.3 points

Is small, doesn't possess a single standout attribute which immediately puts him behind the eight-ball given his lack of height. No standout intensity, strong defensive pressure or willingness to chase hard. Without wanting to offend some demonlanders, it is almost clear as day that he is only on the permission to train list due to his surname. There are hundreds of players out there who would possess the same traits as he does.3 points

That was a great first up game and after reading all the reviews and then watching the replay of the 7 quarters of football I must admit that I liked what I saw, every one chipped in and gave it their all, I was impressed with the way that we kept pegging the Tiges back and made them earn their kicks. We still have a way to go but I am now feeling even more bullish about 2021 with the improvement of our year 2 and year 3 players as they showed more glimpses of what they are capable of, not to mention our year one trio as well. We still kicked to the Tiges advantage to much and they got away with a lot of illegal blocks and pushes in our forward line but that's what top sides get away with, we now have that very strong core of top players who will be helped and supported by a group of young quality players eagerly waiting to fill any holes that may appear in our top 22 - 26 players. Go Dee's!!!!!!!!!!!3 points

Totally agree. The state of the commentary ranks at the moment has to be at an all time low. I’m not sure if it’s possible for the club to stream all games, with tv rights and whatnot, but if the option was there I’d gladly pay for it if it meant I didn’t have to suffer BT, Eddie, Bruce et al3 points

I don’t think he played badly on Friday at all. I admit I have low expectations for him this year but he played better than I expected. He did over turn the ball at times in the first half but then so did Petracca! He might not quite be best 22 but based on this showing, with injuries and rotation, I think he is capable of playing the 6 games he needs for the milestone. Good luck to him if he does.3 points

Do you? Given that so many on here were ready to label him the second coming based on absolutely no exposed form, why would you find it funny that people are jumping off the bandwagon after actually seeing him play? while I hope he does become a decent player one day - it just ain’t today. As others have stated, he looks a long way off it at this point in time.3 points

based on that package bowey's skills look to be elite, laurie makes smart decisions and looks like a better version of hannan, and petty can mark but his disposal and decision making needs to improve a lot can definitely see the former two playing against the 'scrays in a week's time3 points

Needs time to develop...i thought he did some "almost" good things that did not quite come off....that was highest level he has played. I find it almost funny people are writing off a kid with very little exposed form. It takes time to feel like you belong every level you go up against better opposition. Has speed and skill but was pushed off ball easily by bigger bodies. Would not be damning him off one performance though!3 points

Previous attempts to play Jones on the wing have failed He is a liability there If he cant make half forward his own then is position is unfortunately LRO Cost us two goals yesterday with poor panicked disposal No place here for sentiment3 points

I’ve only looked at these highlights but Petty will put pressure on Tomlinson for the 3rd defender spot against Freo. Bowey and Laurie were clean and composed. Promising signs.3 points

Always remember Tommy Lahiff saying the best player he ever saw was Demon Jack Mueller. Four-time premiership player and a couple of Blueys. Gawn might be the best ruckman we've had but is surely behind Barassi, Norm Smith, Flower, Warne Smith, Mueller, Lyon, Neitz, Dixon, Spencer, Bob Johnson and many others!3 points

As to the impact of Round 1, they're not moving our game. For one, the MCG is our home ground and for so long as it's available, we deserve the right to play there. For another, it's Fremantle's only game at the MCG all year. Again, so long as it's available, and so long as the AFL's plan is to have the GF at the MCG, Fremantle deserves to play there.2 points

Big in's. Goldrick will steady the defence. No surprise Magee goes straight out again. She was all at sea last weekend. Big test of character. Can we respond after last week's horror show. I think we will. Dees by 16.2 points

i really liked his game yesterday, thought it was very impressive. he ran with the ball at pace, kicked a goal, spun out of traffic, took a couple of good grabs out on the wing and took off quickly then hit his targets by foot. he seemed to be taking on more responsibility to move the ball to the outside with ball in hand, or by kicking, and then to link up in general play. maybe Choco and Yze deserve some credit as well for teaching him a few tricks to add to his already dominant ball winning game to become more of a well rounded player, but however it happened, i say long may it continue.2 points
