  1. I spoke to Petracca not long ago actually, he said he was ashamed of himself for not winning the 1972 flag.

  4. Brett Anderson, former Inside footy / draft guru and mad demon supporter now working in Port Adelaide’s recruitment team would be a good person to reach out to get into our recruitment team. Ports recruitment has been exceptionally good the last few years and Brett is a vital part of that team.

  5. Mostly gives a run down of Mahoney's history with the Dees, mentions Richo and Burgess, the important bit (I believe we're allowed to quote bits out of articles) is: The club’s board remains frustrated at the lack of progress, after the Dees failed to reach the finals for the 13th time in 14 years. A review is underway, which has put Mahoney under the microscope. Coaches and fitness staff will also be reviewed. Chief executive Gary Pert will be central to the staffing outcomes. Mahoney was safe on Monday, but there was a feeling from some at the Demons that he could struggle to hold on. The Demons are kicking goals in most areas except for on-field. Mahoney was seen by some as a future chief executive, but his future could suddenly lie elsewhere.

  6. I rarely, rarely mute anyone because even cranky or unreliable people can sometimes contribute. So if it turns out that one day Coq au vin does say anything fun, informative or in any way not just a tent-fart, I'm relying on the community to quote it. Thanks in advance. Wait... where's the mute button gone? Did we lose it in the software update? Noooooo.

  10. Definitely was alive when he was playing, and he was gun for us. Anyone who watched him play in our best years in the late 90s early 2000's knows how good he was for us. You are talking utter rubbish if you think he was a flash in the pan. Look at his stats below from his best years (yes, his last 2 years were crap with injury and not many games, so i dint include them)

  13. He was a big supporter of Goodwin when he got the job and has over seen the operation for a decade. Like it or not he has not got us to being a regular finals team. In the end team results stop at his door.

  14. Brown is more productive than any forward we've had for over a decade. 3 years running kicking 60+ goals. We haven't had a player deliver that since Neitz in 2006, and Browns did it 3 years running. He's got a better goal average (2.21 goals per game) than any demon this century outside flash in the pan Jurrah (2.25 goals per game). Those saying he's not good enough or saying no for reason X are absolutely kidding themselves. Ben Brown would be a coup for us, but I expect him to wind up at a more successful club like Pies or Hawks.

  19. If you look at Port Adelaide, they've been nowhere for a long time. They may well win a flag this year. They had a superb 2018 draft by nailing three of their top 20 picks, but the key to their success this year has been consistency (outside of the Geelong game). Their team had some good players in the midfield and forwardline that they recruited and traded in over the years, but could never get it all to click consistently. They would often fall away in the second half of seasons. I'd argue we've had a similar yet somewhat different trajectory as a list and as a club. We've struggled for consistency within games, but managed to play most seasons to the very end (the exception being the final round of 2016 and 2017). But we've built an elite midfield core (the fundamental core of any aspiring premiership side), addressed our backline deficiencies by recruiting Lever, May, Hibberd, Tomlinson to go with Salem and now Rivers. We nailed our 2019 draft, bringing in a key tall and ruck, a zippy mercurial small forward and a gun half back (someone who can probably roll through the midfield in time too). These three compliment three areas of the ground. Rivers adds to the backline; Jackson adds to the KPF stocks and forward structure as well as an extra mid or ruckman; and Pickett adds pressure and creativity to our forwardline. I think one more off season of adding to this team, get the structures right and I think we'll see greater consistency next year. This will convert to more wins and should see a top 4-6 finish. We should be aiming for the flag next year and it's not as far off as people think.

  20. I always rated Brett Ratten right from when he had a great effect on our midfield waaaaay back in the day. Possibly even under Daniher! He has also clearly done great work getting St Kilda organised and focused and competitive, making the most of a list with few stars but I'd argue reasonably even quality with a short 'tail'. BUT Before starting at St Kilda he had a six year term as a senior coach, and for all that he clearly was a good coach it still took him five years to win his first final. His winning percentage over those six years was coincidentally almost exactly that of Goodwin's so far at Melbourne. So I would argue it is perfectly reasonable for Goodwin to have 2021 to prove he has learnt more about this coaching caper. I'd also say that based on our (and Simon's) known/apparent deficiencies, Adem Yze would be a sublimely well-matched assistant/sparring partner for Goodwin.

  21. I went to school and played under age football with a guy who was at least 1 or 2 levels better than anyone else in the team. He was about 10x better than me. He went to a successful VFL club and played 2 or 3 seasons in the U19s and Reserves before moving to a successful football career at a strong club in a rated regional league. I know how good he was and he couldn't make it at the top level. I never call AFL players spuds for that reason.

  23. Leppitsch, Yze, I.Smith, B.Brown and Polec add that to the class we already have in Petracca, May, Viney, Langdon, Oliver and Gawn that makes us a super team. So enjoy the ride ladies and gentleman because the flag is for us to lose next year GO DEES!

  25. Would actually love to get Polec across, he's a good player that's for sure. The fact Norf are pushing him out the door concerns me a bit, but the fact Norf are pushing Brown out the door shows maybe the club just has NFI? He'd make us better instantly.

  26. I think Weideman tired. I thought the last stretch of his season was horrible, but the short turn arounds and the lack of KPP support have to be considered IMO. I'm frustrated by his slow development and sometimes he is too easily pushed under or off the push still. I think he's on the right track though. Adding Brown would take the pressure off Weideman and enable Jackson to roam. That is very enticing.

  27. The list manger Tim Lamb would be all over this anyway. Having the support of Mahoney helps but not necessarily the reason we get the players in

  30. Would think given the season is still going (not for us of course), exit interviews have just happened, players are being re-signed, coaches are being hired and fired, and of course the review is reportedly close to wrapping up, Pert would be quite busy at the moment. I don't know a lot about the review underway, but given the comments by Bartlett during the year and the pressure he's under; I would be very very surprised if it was a minor review.

  31. Pruess will go, no doubt about it, be interesting to see how tough we are in negotiations. He is a wanted commodity, i genuinely hope we dont give him away. Then go and get the best ruckman in a state league or country league as back up, get them with a late pick or PSD pick. Its not rocket science, there are some great prospects out there.

  32. He won't leave Collingwood - he's a Daicos! He has been very impressive this year and is exactly what we need with his kicking skills and dash around the forward half. I assumed he just got a game because of his family name, but he's had a huge impact this year and is a reason why the Pies have made finals. Would be perfect for a wing opposite Langdon. Won't happen though!

  33. Yeah I find TMac and the forward situation interesting. If he can get some agility and running capacity back he would have trade value but would be worth keeping - his general fitness will be handy if the game lengths go back to normal. If he can't recover his agilty, he's not worth keeping and wouldn't have much trade currency. Looks like next year will be his last chance (with us or anyone else). This year there appears to be a lot of big name key forwards that may be gettable. Maybe some are NQR but often a new club is what they need - Danither, Brown, Cameron etc are all big names that have been in the top group of players at the peak of their powers. Not against us going after one. But at the same time, I feel like most of the key forwards are FF and i think this is weid's best position. What is the Weid's ceiling if we get everything else right? I think our issue is really the CHF connection (arguably about the midfielders more than forwards). So ironically maybe a fit (and agile) TMac (and doubly ironically a Hogan) would be better for our team than one of the aforementioned key forwards if it means we can chase some run and class through the middle instead of landing one of the big (but NQR) fish. But if we don't land a key forward this trade period, we are clearly going all in on Weid, Tmac (our) Brown and Petty which doesn't fill me with confidence after the last 2 years.

  34. Deelighted to hear this news - he looks right at home at AFL level - in his debut game he seemed to have more time than M Waugh or Gower, and the way he stepped up in the dying minutes in those games towards the end of the year showed extraordinary will to win. I've been super excited about Rivers since the moment as a draft prospect he was described as being a great kick running out of defence. He should play 200+ games. I hope he tells WC and Freo to f$ck themselves and plays them all in the Red & Blue.

  36. strengths: reading the play kicking fitness weaknesses: strength in the contest ground level game he's a classic 'good ordinary' player and i could definitely see him going somewhere else, playing for a further seven or so seasons and 120 games, getting up to that 200 mark he's not a gamebreaker but he's an honest battler

  37. Oscar has had good games and some poor games for MFC. The problem is that in the role he plays his good games are often invisible - spoils, blocks, postioning and things he prevents his opponents from achieving, whereas when it goes wrong it results in maximum exposure - goals deep in the forward line. He doesn't deserve the vitriol he receives. Other players in other roles are far less exposed when they make errors. Think Zac Dawson - much maligned but Ross Lyon loved him.

  39. Happy for him to have done "well" at a bottom-4 team like the Hawks. Even happier that the club did the right thing and moved him on. The issue here that most are overlooking was his inability to take instructions or criticism, or even consistently do what he was supposed to, highlighted by the on-field verbal stoush with Steven May.

  40. I am confident this deal will happen. Heard from a usually reliable source that Adem was super keen to join at the end of 2019 and we were chasing him hard. Hawthorn played hardball and refused to let him break the contract that was in place and there was an understanding that he’d join Melbourne at the end of 2020. It sounds like this is very close to happening now.

  41. I would have re-signed him too, but a few saying 'he will only get better', well, he's only gotten worse as of late. Hope he can get his set shot routine working, work on his contest side/tackling and I hope we get a forward coach who can use him in a more productive manner. Why would a left footer, constantly lead to the wrong pocket? With added forward craft from a good forward coach, he'll hopefully have a greater chance of improving his conversion.

  42. I was told couple of weeks ago that the Club is in advanced discussions with Yze and are being listened to by Leppitsch. My source said that Yze is very likely and if Leppitsch decides to continue in Footy, it will be with the Dees.

  43. I love this. When someone posted his 2018 highlights here, I couldn't believe how lean he was. I know he's looked pretty cooked the last couple of seasons, but he's just such a unique player at his best and I'd hate for us to be be paying half of his salary to be torching us on the G' next season.
