  6. Just at the Sydney airport waiting to fly back to Melbourne, I think a lot of people have seriously underestimated the level of support the Giants have. I have seen four people in Giant Jumpers.

  10. No offence intended Lucifer but I get really frustrated with these kinds of glib disparaging statements about the club and its players. People seem to constantly misunderstand how much of skill execution, particularly under pressure, is in the head. We didn't just spend 3 years in a linear progression only to fall off a cliff this year because we don't have any skillful players. We played and won 2 finals games last year and fell in a heap against a side we beat 3 weeks before. Our skill didn't vanish in that 3 weeks or evaporate. Nor could we have gotten into the prelim without skillful players. What happened was mostly mental, coming off the back of some initial tactical errors. Our skills actually deteriorated this year as we fell further into a hole. That began because of the million reason that have been explored on DL ad nauseum, but it continued, and got worse because of loss of confidence and the inability of whoever does our sports psychology to help the players to refocus on the now rather than get drowned in negative self talk (christ I sound like a new age pop psychologist but hopefully my meaning is clear). We don't have a bunch of unskilled nuffies, we have some excellent players and some fairly decent role players and some gaps like most teams. When they lose their confidence they stop playing instinctively and start making rudimentary errors because they are over thinking things. That got us in spades this year, you could see it every time we got in front of goal. We went from one of the most accurate, high scoring teams, to one of the most inaccurate and low scoring ones. Because of confidence. Interestingly richmond turned this around in one year, in no small part due to a new mindfulness coach.

  12. If you look back it was not so long ago they were Ninthmond. The coach was under constant scrutiny, "can he coach?" was the media and supporter's refrain. As noted elsewhere it was only a few years ago that they cleaned out all assistant coaches and gave him one more chance. A solid list with a few stars but not stellar. Players like Grimes have improved with sheer hard work. Ninth at the bye they didn't drop their heads. I look at where they were and think we certainly can emulate that outcome. Houli in a post match interview stated how much the players love Hardwick and how he believes in them. Before last year I got that sense from our players. Last night their recruiting of two high profile players Lynch and Prestia really paid off. Perhaps we need to be bold again in that space. At this time of year we tend to focus on our woes and holes but are we that different to the old Ninthmond? I have some real confidence we can do it if we hang in there. I look at what the Tigers have done and see no reason we can't do the same.

  13. I am of an age where I have more well trodden path behind me than open road in front of me. My age may go some way towards my attitude toward the modern day use of some words now employed in footy circles. There are two in particular that annoy me. "Craft" - as in "Preuss to work on forward craft." When I was growing up footballers had skills. There was an art to how the position were played. Referring to something as a craft, to me removes art from a player. Removes the imagination that players require. We have all seen players do something otherworldly that is in no way a 'craft'. I would love this word banished from the MFC coaching panel and replaced with discussion about skills and imagination. "Learnings" - They are lessons FFS. Thank you for reading. I am sure there are other things in the same vein that annoy people.

  17. You can all thank me later for jynxing both results with this premature comment and creating the best possible GF outcome for everyone! Next week should be an absolute cracker. I don't even care if the Giants upset the Tigers. I'll be happy with either result.

  19. Frost might look exciting on TV but as a defender he is a coaches nightmare. He makes poor decisions regarding when to leave his main and when to stay, and he overcommits in attack, causing his team mates to be out of position when he finally kicks it and leaving himself out of position when he turns it over. Tomlinson isn't as exciting, isn't as fast, isn't as line breaking or attacking, but he is more likely to play a role around Lever, May, Jetta, Hibberd, Salem etc. He also has the versatility of playing on the wing with discipline (our issue isn't pace on the wing as much as it is players who knows when to go and when to stay), competing in the ruck and drifting forward. Edit: I'm not saying I'd make this swap, but I can understand the potential reasoning, especially considering Goodwin is a tactics, positioning, team rules type coach.

  23. Tigers got the right people in e.g. Balme as football manager There draft picks before the success are better A+ e.g. Cotchin, Revolt, Rance, Martin Their drafting/Free agency Lynch Prestia Stronger leadership/culture MFC have cleaned out their assistance inc new Fitness coach, so time will tell. How many A graders do we have Continuously poor drafting, we missed out on Josh Kelly for Tyson & Salem( salem is good nut no Kelly, Tyson can't get a game at Nth) Wines for Toumpas who got delisted. I know all clubs get this but FFS we always do! Drafted 2 key Backs Lever with another knee & May who come in unfit, we are paying big $$ for key backs how many other clubs have done that We lose a gun Hogan & expected Macca & Weids to fillthe void????? Leadership/culture questionable as can't be seen e.g. Selwood/Danger always shine, Cotchin very strong, Jones/viney?? Goodwin struggled by his own admission in dealing with the disastrous 2019, questionable game plan, getting smashed on the outside. Who will they draft now for outside run/speed & another fwd Will the mess up pick 2? history suggest so

  31. Got the approval of BM, JV7 as well so it looks like we were all on it Gorg! Looked the winner a long way from home carrying that light weight and with a big advantage at the weights as well. In true Aussie tradition the handicapper was beaten as well. It is too good a horse to be only carrying 52kgs. But that is how it works and the smart punters were all over the horse.

  39. Come on, when someone works on a craft, more likely they are doing macrame or pottery, aren't they? What the? I know this is not a recent one, but I dislike intensely the "yeah, nah" I hear in interviews. What does this mean? Is the person agreeing, or disagreeing? They sound uneducated. I wish they would stop. "Streaming down the ground". Have the players turned into water?

  40. Dangerfield has never won a preliminary final. Suck eggs. If he'd stuck around at Adelaide another few years, he would've played in a Grand Final. ?

  41. And there are idiots on this site that actually believe we have good salary cap & list management. If you want an example of outstanding salary cap (TPP) management, take a look at Richmond. We’d be lucky to have 2 A Graders whereas Tigers would have about 10.

  42. To be honest, this season really got to me. I usually watch the Demon game 3 times throughout the week and at least 3 other games of footy per week. My love of the game has finally waivered this year and if we have another terrible year next year I will likely give up following the game. I watched 1 game a week this year. Sometimes it wasn't even our game. The membership isn't going to be automatically renewed for the first time in my adult life.

  44. Ah yes recruiting. Is it important? Tigers get 2 GC Suns players, who kick 7 goals in a Prelim and take them to the GF. A bloke they got from the Bombers a few years ago is their 3rd best on the night and nearly best for the year. Get it right Dees, just get it right.

  45. Preuss has the makings of becoming a very handy player and his improvement will come from holding marks. Period! That is his down fall. Suggest that a glove might help and if not try the sticky stuff on your hands, i am talking about superglue. He is in the right age bracket 24 and has time to learn his craft from the Master of crafts Gawny. There is great hope for his future.
