  1. Gonna be tough to make the 8 now...

  2. Believe me, l hear you ProperDee. It has been a very long and excruciating ride for many of us. I was intending to go tonight, as l have done through all those dark decades and not so long ago dark days. Last year genuinely lifted my spirits for a great 2019. Now that it is here, and looks as it does, l find it much much harder to raise the spirit, than l did in our darkest hours. I have decided not to go to the game, irrespective of the outcome. We have played like a hapless rabble this year. It very hard to watch. Good players have been reduced to hand ball robots with little leadership or direction of or off the field. Maxy, Salo and 1 or 2 others have played their part. The rest have fallen off a cliff. I can't wait until the season is over. I expect over summer, l will be revitalised by the fit list training the house down. It's been many years since l have felt so flat about Melbourne Football Club, after supporting them since early 60s.?

  7. The only reason Adelaide would be interested in Goodwin is if they were absolutely certain the MFC were just a team of dud players. But here some of you are saying it’s Goodwin who is the dud. Why would the Crows move on one dud coach only to replace him with another?

  8. Roos has no intention of stepping in. My opinion, but I think the players were over him by the end. He was needed to do a job, he did it and he moved on. He did a great job by the way, no knocking him but I think his time was up. Those who think Roos would have taken us to a flag if he stayed on are off the mark to my way of thinking.

  9. Are you kidding? Goodwin was gifted an up and coming side with great club administration and sound fundamentals as a team. He is effectively in his 4th year and has had an armchair ride yet we have not eliminated some of the basic skill errors we have been committing for years. His game style or brand has been shown to be easy to coach against and aside from a good 4 weeks last year, we have been incredibly flaky and weak against top sides, particularly defence. Yeah, gotta feel for him. How about feeling for supporters who have been putting up with cr*p for decades.

  10. So the fact that we have had the most players unavailable week to week of any club this season, and up to round 12 (it could be still) of any club in the AFL EVER means nothing to you over-reactive clowns? The single most reliable stat to predict a club’s ladder position is players unavailable week to week, thus through a season. Not speculation or supposition....this is fact. Nobody wants to talk about it because it takes the art discussion out of the game. We are where we are because week to week we have been playing with a decimated list. Brisbane are 2nd for the opposite reason.

  18. Message is sound though. We're a mediocre club that is the joke of the AFL from top to bottom. The fact that the oldest club has no home or soul is pathetic.

  19. When the turnovers come down to skill errors and poor execution (eg Salem's floater to Brayshaw) I think that comes down more to execution than gameplan. Goodwin has things he needs to work on too and if he doesn't he'll have a short coaching career but it's hard to blame him for the constant turnovers and skill errors.

  20. Wagner, Wagner, ANB, OMac & Smith hopefully won't be getting games (or on the list) next year. You can't win giving away 85 points from turnovers. For comparison we scored 22 pts from turnovers. That's on the players, not sure what Goodwin is meant to do about that. Brayshaw needs to learn how to use the footy instead of just bombing away and missing easy goals on the run. Another easy goal missed by Fritsch in the 3rd which turned into a goal down the other end. Our starting forward line tonight was Fritsch, Smith, Petty, Petracca, Lewis & Hunt. Petracca is the only one we would have had there in our starting 22 at the start of the season. The end of this season can't come quick enough, the whole club needs to reset to go again next year. I don't understand the level of vitriol on here, this year's been over for weeks. One positive I found tonight was Petracca, he's really matured over the last 2 or so months and been a consistently good player building more confidence. He needs to learn how to stay in the game longer (stints on ball will help) and nail his set shots but I'm more confident in him now than I was at the start of the season.

  21. And you obviously aren’t interested in statistical fact, which is precisely what I was presenting. Yes, we’re playing badly, and it’s f***ing horrible to watch, but your juvenile response does nothing to rebut that our performance reflect the facts as they are.

  22. Gus & Viney slooow liabilities at this level against a strong through the body, quick burst speed centre line like the Aints or Essendrug now. Anytime we meet them (or similar) we are toast. Big M can get all the hit outs we like. Useless if very few mids can get to the drop first other than Clarry and Harmes (when he plays through there). We don't have enough off the line speed and structurally don't set up or offer dangerous options / outliers for the receive and give inside 50. Our players in general are devoid of dispoal skills/confidence and belief. Constantly giving it straight back to the opposition under pressure. Jones, Lever and Frost fabulous examples this evening. Not enough players with composure, evasive skills or finish/class. ANBs torpedo (too high) handball to Fritschkreig at the end there a great example of ordinary skills (turnover). All other clubs that would have been a goal 29 out of 30 times. We have serious list and coaching issues and the skills / structure issues start and end with Goody. He has ruined this club's skills / structural disciplines & persists with his horrid chaos play on at all costs game style, which has sent us to the bottom. We have no possession / tempo game style to counter a run on and cool down the opponent when they are hot, which means we are unable to maintain a lead at any stage of any match. On top, outside of Tracc and Fritschkreig, our forward line is not AFL worthy or capable of kicking a winning score. How many times do we see too many at the marking / spoiling contest and no one down for the spill. Or doing same and ball spills out back for easy joe the goose? How many times do we need to see too many chasing the ground ball and leaving an extra outlier or two of the opp's on the outside for the easy receive then off to the races?? How many times do we need to see a few players go up in a marking contest and the ball spills to an opposition player who is just playing the basics (structure) front and square, grabs spilled ball kicking an easy goal or hitting targets inside 50. How often have you seen our blokes play front a square for the spill? I can't recall it too often this season. Easily the worst drilled/coached team in the AFL. I cant see us finishing anywhere but bottom 6 again next year as Goody just keeps giving us more of the same rubbish week in and out and, outside of his control to a degree, there are just too many non-AFL level plodders and spuds on the list. Hoping for better but preparing for plenty more misery under the present Goodwin game style, the pitiful skill levels, ill disiplined structures and the lack of a tempo/possession game.

  27. Whoever made the decision to select Oscar McDonald needs to be sacked immediately. Absolutely unforgivable. It was obvious the aints were targeting that match up all night. The entire football world knows he's a dud, except for our FD. Heads need to roll before we get fined another $500k

  35. Its been a very long time fd, but at least you've had 6 Flags in your lifetime (and I'm one up on you !) The ones I really feel sorry for are my kids (3 all in their 40s). As part of our household they had no choice about what team to support, and they've stuck fat all the way. I'm not sure if it's out of 'blind loyalty' to the MFC or their old man. (lol).

  40. I'm [censored] (really annoyed) that May is not playing as one good thing that could come for us in this last half a dozen or so games is for our backline to get some continuity and really gel together. But by the same token, I'm also glad that they are taking a conservative approach to May's hammy as I really don't want us taking so many injured players into preseason and a repeat of this year's injury debacle next season, so I'll cop loosing May on the chin. It's not disastrous for O Mac to be getting another hit out down back at AFL level either. Granted O Mac has been underwhelming this season to be polite, but on his day he can also provide a sufficient solid option, so I think that also bodes well for both our chances tonight and the seasons ahead that we can bring him in as a backup. If you look at it objectively, I think our performance post the bye has been reasonably solid and all the doom and gloom during the week is somewhat overblown and due to us slipping back a place on the ladder due to fixture issues more than anything. I think we will win tonight, without being particularly confident about it. Watching us in some of the games post bye, it's apparent to me that we are playing with more confidence and much cleaner ball movement than we did earlier in the year when we were fairly rabble like. We have been compeditive against several top eight sides in Adelaide and West Coast, without quite being able to crack it. The worm just has to turn for us soon.

  44. The great 60’s rock group Buffalo Springfield has this song called “Something’s Happening” that opened with the lines- “There's something happening here What it is ain't exactly clear” It was a song about paranoia in the days of the Vietnam War but it comes to mind when I look at what’s happened with this week’s team selections. The first two players on the injury list are declared available and they go straight into Melbourne’s team for tonight against the Saints (Tim Smith actually played for Casey last week after already recovering from whatever ailed him the previous week). Jack Viney and Harry Petty pass their fitness tests and remain in the team for that game. Jake Melksham (after several weeks of wavering from 4-5 to 3-4 miraculously became a “test”), Marty Hore, Sam Weideman and Billy Stretch all pass their tests and are selected for Casey. So does rookie Austin Bradtke who was presumably rested last week. So just when we have what should be a season low injury list of a mere 8 players, there’s also a season high of up to four “mystery injuries of the week”. A day after the injury list is issued, Steven May misses with a hamstring injury. Well, we knew he might have had an issue there because in the game against the Eagles in Alice Springs he went “into the rooms during the third quarter with a tight hamstring but eventually returned”. Another player injured who returns to the ground only to miss at least the following game. Then there is the strange case of three “outs” from the Casey team - Mitch Hannan, Corey Maynard and Charlie Spargo - none of who were listed as injured. So, if that was really the case, were they rested from a must win game for the Casey Demons (they have to win every remaining game to have a chance of making the finals) when their inclusion would given them a season high of 16 AFL listed players? There's something happening here. I just can’t figure it out and nobody’s telling us what it is even if it probably doesn’t matter.

  45. Yep, and with a game plan that is closest in style to ours of any team. But hold on, i thought the pies, cats, west coast slow, chip it around, cross to the fat side and maintain possession model is unbeatable and where the game is heading and Goody has failed to keep up with premiership winning trend in footy. I'm confused. Perhaps that's the not the case after all.

  46. Apart from Melbourne Supporters, everyone else laughs at how useless this club is... We were useless in the ‘70’s when i was at school. To the outsider absolutely nothing has changed....

  47. I think this is probably right but completely justified. We were definitely in with a shot and came home like a steam train until we, well, ran out of steam in the prelim against eventual premiers. We knew things would be tough, but the struggle with recovery made it worse than expected. We collected injuries after Christmas and in early rounds (May, Jetta, Lewis, TMac, Melk, Smith, all happened close to our in season) instead of slowly getting healthier. We didn't get match tactic practice coming into the biggest rule changes in decades. May's injury in combination with the 666 change magnified our defensive issues, and 666 in combination with lack of opportunity for trial/practice, ruined our attack. The biggest issue is that a season this bad can be damaging for morale, belief and cohesion amongst a group.
