I don't disagree with most of it. Maybe a tad harsh though, I don't think he is a "genuine liability" with his kicking down back. I think you'll find he nails targets quite often, its just the clangers that register more in peoples minds. He is a net positive to the team wherever he plays, if he's genuine anything its genuine best 22 for mine.7 points

Picking Ablett, Scarlett and Hawkins up in the 40s before the FS rules changed didn't hamper them either5 points

The Dunkley family will enjoy seeing Josh and Kyle on the same pitch. Special day for them. Hope Kyle gets a few decent tackles on his older bro!3 points

Our backline is stacked, our forward line is in tatters. Play him forward for the remainder of the year. He's been disappointing this year IMO His first season was very good, and I expected him to keep improving, but he seems to have gone backwards/stalled this year. It's probably been a result of being moved around and not settling into a position. I'm still not sure if this is good for his development or not yet. Long term I still see him as a forward/wing option. I think his best football was played early in his career as a forward, and his worst football has come down back where his lack of intensity and body strength has been exposed, case in point being dropped late last year. For whatever reason his goal kicking is generally accurate, his forward half kicking is generally accurate, but his field kicking in the back half has been a genuine liability this year.3 points

I/C from: Petracca, O. McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Petty, C. Wagner, Lockhart, J. Wagner, Dunkley IN: Lever, Jetta, Gawn, O. McDonald, C. Wagner, J. Wagner OUT: Hore (injured), T. McDonald (injured) No surprises. Interesting interchange. Hopefully the final 4 are Petracca, Dunkley, Lockhart and .... Glad the Big Scary Man gets another gig. Finally we get our best back 6 on the park! For the first time it frees Salem or Fritsch to spend the whole game centre/forward.2 points

I usually prefer to listen at ABC Grandstand and watch 7 to avoid putting up with the inane crap but Malthouse is on ‘special comments’ tonight. OMG he is just so full of himself - I cannot put up with him. Never heard anything like it.2 points

Simple solution is umpire should call for the review. However Rodan seemed quite confident in his decision. Although he was 2 weeks ago in Geelong too and they overturned that.2 points

This might not be popular opinion but... We've all been waiting for Christian Petracca to announce him self on the big stage...waiting for the big break out game. I think he's actually done it through the back door. No break out game but just some really good footy over the last period. Little by little. He's trusting himself more to take the shots, to break the packs, take on the game and he's hitting the scoreboard. He might not become elite or the player some had hoped for but he's heading towards "A' grade very quickly. He's a very good and important player to the team. Now...if he could fix up his set shots the sky would be the limit.2 points

Look on the bright side The Bulldogs defence will have no idea which of our players gets their best defender I thought 2019 couldn't get any worse but yes it does in the sense that we are getting zero momentum for 2020.2 points

So now no Weideman. That means Tom Mac, Weeds, Melksham, and arguably VDB and Garlett are unavailable from first choice forward 6, and throw in both T & J Smith as first cabs off the rank as backup.2 points

Couldn't agree more. I'm starting to worry that his development has been impacted badly by being played out of position for too long. Send him forward and leave him there ffs.2 points

I can't wait for the day Salem, Melksham and Fritta are our 3 major i50 kicker innerers ?2 points

I love Ash's speed - it's elite and the best of this draft class. My concern with Ash is his balance of ball winning. His contested possessions are only at 20%, which is well below average. All other forecasted top 10-20 picks playing in similar positions are 40%-65%. There's been a clear trend of players with low contested possession numbers at underage levels failing to adjust at AFL level. Off the top of my head, first round picks that had low contested possession counts and haven't stepped up are Toumpas, Morton, Aish, Lang, Pickett, Ah Chee, Lovell, T Menzel, Mayes. For that reason I'd prefer others such as Serong or Kemp, but there's no doubting Ash's speed and kicking is enticing.2 points

Mm let me think. Why would he do that? Might it have something to do with the fact that for most of the season we have had 2-3 of our first choice defenders out injured?2 points

Surely now lever and jetts us back he goes to the hf or wing. I'm not surprised about the differential in DE forward and back. I reckon kicks from the back half are harder as they are often under much more pressure, both mental (I miss this they score) and real (high presses, manic inside 50 tackling and congestion). I'd love to see him and Salem delivering the ball inside 50 and taking some set shots.2 points

It should be noted that Fritsch is often the one with ball rebounding and will try to bite off harder kicks than others. For whatever reason though his kicking efficiency is way down in the defensive half. If you go through the AFL Pro stats stuff, his kicking efficiency forward half is 84%, but defensive half it's down at 53%. Mind boggling he isn't playing forward more considering our number 1 issue is connection in the front half! Salem, Jones and May are our most efficient coming out of defence, Lever and Jetta would both be up there as well had they played. We have enough kicking skill down there that Fritsch should no longer be forced down there anymore. Play him forward!2 points

I love the fact people are talking about how we have our best 6 on the park finally, and that Sam Frost is on that list. A testament to the hard work he has obviously put into his game, proud of the lad. I'm a big Frosty fan these days, having previously been a naysayer. Humble pie can taste good sometimes. I don't agree with the calls to drop Petty at all, even if he is prone to mistakes. He's showing a hell of a lot already and since his body is already AFL standard, lets get some games into him for the rest of the year so we never have to go back to Omac. Also, Omac must be traded at seasons end. I'd love to see Omac line up against Tmac one day. Spoiler alert, Tmac will destroy him on work rate alone. Not really sure what to do with ANB anymore, his work rate is second to none but whats that worth when your disposal and goal kicking is generally awful. I'd be looking to trade him at the end of the year in any case. I didnt watch the doggies game last week so i really have no idea how on earth they knocked off the Cats, but if I'm looking at this game on paper, their forward half should struggle big time against this back 6. We win this.2 points

And it's not just to t ial numbers of injured players that is so remarkable. It is how many of our nominal best 22 we have out. For much of the season in any given game we have had close to half of our best 22 out. Even with jetts and lever back this week we still have a third out (melk, vdb, tmac, Joel Smith, kk, jeffy, hore are best 22 and stretch is on the bubble). I have said numerous times but it bears repeating. No club has had a run of best 22 players out with injury. Not even close. Nor did any club have anywhere near the number of post season surgeries. Not even close. These two issues are facts. Critics of our game plan and coaching might prove to be correct but it is simply not possible to make an accurate assessment of either with what has happened to us. Supposition yes. Definitive no. Look at how pies have gone when they lose their best forward. One player our and suddenly they can't convert inside 50.2 points

Lever for pick 10 and 19 which went to a couple of still unheard of players. That will be a steal in the years to come. No doubt about it. Lever is elite.2 points

Hoping to see Petracca, ANB, Dunkkley and Lockhart on the bench (with Petty making way and joining OMac and the Wagners as emergencies). Just not sure we need May, Frost, Lever and Petty in the side, let alone against the Dogs (and certainly not OMac on top of that).2 points

Let's cut to the chase - Gawn did the full session. Rehab - T Smith, Billy, Tom Sparrow, Melk. Billy was running laps and still looks a while away, Tommy and Melk doing some kicking and TSmith mainly running from what I saw but I was a little late. Unsighted: TMac, Hore, Neita, Walker, JSmith, AVB, KK, Garlett The rest all appeared to do the whole session. A real mix of drills, three quarter ground drills, centre clearance work, goal kicking for the forwards, specialist ruck, high marking for the talls, spoiling for Jetts, specie practice for Hannan. I had a good look at Dunkley and liked what I saw. Good by foot and clean hands. Other than that just a normal training session.2 points

Hore does make a ton of mistakes both at ground level and turning the ball over via foot. Has been impressive in his first year but I wouldn’t have as automatic best 22 next year.2 points

We were 3 short on the bench. With a game that has so many rotations I was not suprised Carlton came back. They did the same to Freo the previous week. Fortunantly we were able to muster up what was required in the end. A bit of luck doesn't hurt either. I took a lad from Spain to see his first game ever. He knew nothing about the game. Going home he didn't want to stop talking about what he just witnessed.2 points

See, you say you can separate out long-term disappointment from enjoying the moment, then go on to list all the long-term disappointments that sour short term enjoyment for you. And your last two paragraphs are just a laugh really. You seem to think I’m unaware that this hasn’t been a good year. I’m aware. I can’t wait for it to be over. I look to each coming game with a trepidation that was pleasantly absent last year. I can only bloody hope we will be able to turn it around. Still enjoyed Sunday’s game.2 points

Hawks, Pies and Tigers are very supportive of GC getting the number 1 pick and would like to be consulted on who they pick so they can plan ahead for trading them in in 3 years time2 points

That club have been raped and pillaged by opposition clubs at the hands of the AFL. I believe they have every right to ask for compensation. They were set up to fail from the start compared to GWS.2 points

It also doesn't show that Cale realised we had won possession of the ball, ran forward to make position, received the pass and kicked it to one of our forwards who duly converted for goal. Not saying Cale was a tough man, but this clip misrepresents what actually happened in that piece of play.2 points
