  4. Congratulations to Nathan Jones on the accomplishment of becoming the equal second games record holder at the MFC today against the GC. Somewhat fitting that he shares jumper No.2 with the late Robert Flower, as although they are somewhat different styles, they will go down as great captains and players for the MFC that loyally stuck with the club through some hard times for the team. I actually wounder if playing this match with Jonesy was something which factored in Jack Viney declaring himself fit? Anyway go forth and get the job done for the skipper today lads. Great captain Great clubman Great player Well done Jonesy GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS

  6. Well I must be the only one who’s stoked. Yes the game was a bucket of pus, but I wasn’t expecting anything but. We’re not contenders this year, we knew that. I still like winning above all else, and we did. I jumped through the roof at the end as if it mattered.

  7. Also props to Hibberd - that was a moment where he knew what was coming was going to hurt a lot, but went in anyway. Genuinely tough play in my opinion.

  8. 6pts down 49 seconds to go Team manages to come from behind, score twice, and win..... Usually would be our opposition! Nice it's us for once

  9. I don't care that we won, our season is beyond over. I actually feel for the Suns, I liked what they were doing. We were Neeld/Bailey era bad. Dumb football, poor skills, nobody can take a mark, complete absence of a gameplan. Putrid. Did you see the coaching staff celebrate in the box? How embarrassing. It's like we won the Grand final when all we did is beat a candidate for the wooden spoon. Ugh

  11. Confession: I turned the game off in disgust after that last Gold Coast goal with 49 seconds left. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would come back to Demonland 30 minutes later and find out we won. Half an hour after we lost(!), I rewind the game and watch the miracle on grass. Unbelievable. We are fated to make the finals this year. Or not, but that was an incredible 60 seconds of footy to watch all the same.

Whinge and moan all you like people but right now I’m loving life and loving the opportunity of having this moment with my kids!!! GO YOU GOOD THINGS!!!

  15. Tom McDonald being called the “star of the show” by Mooney is laughable. He was deplorable along with just about everyone else. What a horrible game of football. Our coaches have done nothing to fix our fumble and ball on ground problems from last year. The forward line is a mess, the structure is non-existent and we have no plan when then ball hits the ground.

  16. For decades, I've seen teams like Hawthorn and the Swans play like rubbish in games like this and then snatch a win, often from us. Now , we're doing it. Good.

  17. Hail Tom McDonald That’s the second time he’s won us a game with under 30 seconds on the clock.

  20. That showed 'em. Don't come into a game against Melbourne if you're underdone or mentally off the boil, or we'll do that to you.

  22. Regardless of our season, this will be the type of game that shows up on our magic memories DVDs. A win out of nowhere. It’s certainly a win I’ll remember and one of our best comebacks ever. No matter what team you follow, it’s a game that most supporters would have enjoyed watching. Full of pizza and bit tipsy now, so I hope someone takes these words to heart and enjoys the game for what it was, a comeback win.

  23. We kept going despite several players clearly injured....Gawn, Melksham Hibberd etc.....we were out on our feet. Yes it was horrible, but we never gave up. TMac was interviewed by Jeff White after the game. He said they practiced and practiced all pre season for just such a senario where they were having to score a goal with less than a minute to go. He said it worked just how they wanted it to....and in fact it worked twice.

  25. absolutely stoked with the four points, for once we are winning the close ones. I acknowledge that there is still a lot to work on, forward fifty entries especially however there is still lots to like. everyone getting stuck in to certain players, performance, effort etc. give it a break! lets enjoy the win and come back even better next week. love this club, Go Dees!

  26. Onya coach, me too. I’m honestly shocked to jump on to Demonland to a funeral-like response, I thought I’d be sharing the love with fellow Dees fans. Guess I should know better by now.

  27. Can’t wait to watch the 4 quarter replay of this classic. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favour and stick hot pins up your taint instead. Both Gold Coast’s supporters will be fuming.

  28. I watched it with my younger brother. We were literally holding each other, trembling, the last minute. In all seriousness, it’s taken me so long to post because we’ve only just let go. My heart is still pounding. What a win! It’s usually games like this we throw away. So many games I’ve seen the past few years where we were in front and the other team caught up and managed to steal a win. Its usually the opponents who steal a win like that. Thought it was over when GC kicked that goal, but for once, we stood up where it counted and never gave up. One of the best finishes I’ve ever seen to what was a mostly average game. Great to see Jones back in firm. Now we’re ordering pizza and going to have celebration drinks. Go Dees!

  29. Well, that was the worst s*#t I've ever seen. So many questions. Why did Frost play on at the top of the 50? How did Harmes not reach the goals with that kick? How could McDonald miss that mark? If anything, this game just confirmed how utterly woeful we are as a football club. Pure luck that we won that. We have so many substandard players on our list right now it's frightening. Shudder to think what might happen next week.

  30. Has there ever been a worse player to win a game? Drops the mark. Missed the goal. Gets us the win. Fml. FMD. What was that

  33. For once let’s support the team regardless 56. OMac bashing 5 hours before the bounce hey? Let’s at least wait until 5 minutes into the game before it commences. Not sure how many times we have to read about how useless he is to some. C’mon Demons!

  34. As I'm confident of a win I would have loved to escape the chill by going north to watch this game. However, as there is something of a cash flow crisis at The Manor, I shall settle for the big screen. The maid is ironing her Gold Coast outfit in preparation of a post game celebration.

  35. I think people need to relax a little. It’s hard I know, coz we completely butchered the footy going forward tonight. BUT... the stats show a complete domination of the contest. We are in survival mode right now with what we have on the park. We can hang on and jag a few wins, we can have a big second half of the season. We need to sure up the defence as opposition are scoring from their F50. The obvious is the we also need to clean up our f50 entries. We have strarted to avoid bombing the ball, but we still aren’t leading at the ball. McDonald is always behind. I’d be bring in Tim Smith and Preuss. Things aren’t that bad. If we had have used the ball better it was a 6 goal victory. We didn’t, and as such, failed to capitalise on a complete dominance. We can continue to learn from it. Petracca is a midfielder and te sooner the coaching staff realise this and get rid of the FF dream, the better off he and the team will be. He was so much better after he was moved. McDonald must learn to lead at the ball and play in front. Garlett may be finished. He was so fumbley and constantly looking for frees. Wagner and Hore were solid. Getting better every week. Anyone who thinks the sky is falling ought to look at the stats and take comfort. If the final piece clicks into place, we are capable of kicking some big scores. Sadly, I reckon that piece was Hogan. We need to weather the storm in the next month and try to stay alive.

  36. As a rule we lose these games. We did not play well but don’t be so high and mighty that you can’t enjoy a win in the last second. Ever heard of “winning ugly”? i was watching this with my kids and with 49 sec to go I suggested “never give up”...a great lesson for the kids and a WIN for the team.

  37. It could almost be a Betoota Advocate headline. “Angus Brayshaw Becomes First Ever Good Player To Have A Bad Game”. The ultimate “nothing to see” here problem at present I think.

  39. Yeah I mean you gotta be happy with a win. Those last 49 seconds saved this game from being officially the worst display of football ever seen in a professional game of AFL. It was a very costly win to a team already battling fitness and injury and our season is still done and dusted, but hey, take what you can get and celebrate. A terrible miss kick, a dropped mark and a kick that hit the post never looked so good!

  40. Ok boys get it out of the centre as quick as possible, crash a pack and get a handball away to your running team mate, then run inside 50 and kick to your team mate who is standing on his own. The next bit and I cant stress this enough, drop an uncontested mark.... the opposition will think they've got it, then BANG soccer the ball but not through the goals, straight into the post. Game.

  42. The season is still in massive doubt. Yeah I get it. That’s tomorrow’s problem. Right now we just stole a win from the jaws of defeat for a change. Nothing wrong with celebrating it for 30 seconds.
