  1. Team is announced in a few hours! So its time to switch from all the repetitive, negative comments and threads that have recently saturated this board. New game, new opportunity. Go Dees!

  2. Take a month off for ignoring my general warning and a private warning about personal attacks. You're not the only one doing it but you are the only one who I've warned privately that has ignored the warning. I don't usually make moderating public but I hope this serves as a warning to others who think that they can blatantly disregard the rules. I get no pleasure out of this and this isn't a power trip. I let many things go through to the keeper but let that be a warning.

  3. No changes except injuries please. We need continuity desperately right now. Disagree sending the weed to Casey. He's at the point of his career now where he needs to be accumulating game time in the AFL, not going back to the VFL and coming back with a false sense of security having played a good game or two in the 2's. He's learned everything he can in the VFL already. Stick fat, he has all the attributes, he just needs more and more games. Hell, some decent i50 entries probably wouldn't hurt either? He is a beautiful set shot on goal, I reckon we focus on having him laced out by our mids/wingers a few times rather than lamenting his bad form when he's only getting delivered pure chaos ball. He will start hitting the scoreboard when this happens. Get behind him, if only that there is really no other hope for his type on our list.

  4. Weideman to the Magoos. Bring in Keilty who deserves just as much of a chance as Weideman quite frankly. Just because Sam was a high draft pick and played two solid games out of 26 showings means f’ all imv. Declan is showing a better rate of improvement and must be given a chance this weekend.

  5. I would like to see a team selected that can win. In part to get some optimism back and in part to get the monkey off our back for a while. We can all see the effort is being made. Plenty of time later in the year to 'play the kids' and it will be a lot better for them and their confidence coming into a winning team than one with a string of losses behind it.

  6. As a diehard supporter devastated and despondent as to the position we find ourselves, I also don't want to be part of the negativity that other Club supporters, the Media and some of our own supporters are relishing. We are generally all passionate supporters on this site and and the extreme disappointment we all feel is exacerbated by the fact that there are no clear answers to our problems. However, why can't we all put that aside and actually support the boys when they really do need our support. I know that the players will be really feeling the anger and frustration of their supporters and despite their outgoing positive comments they will be hurting. I really believe we have the team to turn it around. Friday 3rd May, there is a light training run from 9.30 to 10.30 at Gosch's paddock. I really hope that we can get as many "supporters" there to show the players that we do support them and believe that they can turn it around. I know that we have the team to do exactly that but we will have to get through whatever is happening at the moment. I'm not making excuses for them. I just want to show them that we haven't given up on them. There will not be any BBQ's or marketing tents just plain old fashioned spontaneous support for our players. Let's bring back a sense of unity amongst members and supporters. Bring your dogs, children, neighbours and anyone that loves the MFC.

  7. I know i am showing my age, but I honestly cannot listen to TV Commentary of AFL anymore. Mike was never like that. It was Serious Theatre to Mike and he helped turn the game into something YOU DID NOT MISS on Saturday Night We would go out AFTER Football Inquest and the Replay. Not before.

  8. Inspiring changes by MFC So glad I am a member!! Turbo Wagner comes in and Ultra Turbo Oscar Mc Quick gets another Gig!! Is this the slowest Team ever selected?? Hawks by 15........ Goals that is Season Kaputt! Shocking!

  9. Mike was the absolute professional, he called the game as he saw it. Nothing more. He understood excitement and the suspense of a close finish Thanks for introducing me to the great game Mike, and (The Penthouse Club) on Saturday Nights!!

  10. Good to see the selection committee have made a statement dropping an underperforming senior player...oh wait they dropped a kid and let senior blokes continue to coast and set the poor standard! This club is weak. Nothing changes.

  13. O mac and Wagner.. exciting stuff. Should have bought in Keilty and Sparrow, who are both emergencies.

  15. Good god.. how we continue to put games into a [censored] spud in McDonald is just mind boggling.. Should have given Keilty or Petty a shot. Our season is finished and we have this useless [censored] coming back into the team.. Riveting selections.

  16. Finaly a footy pundit gets it. He is 100% right. Well 90%. The injuries to Smith, preeuss, kk and may (and now viney) have made things even more difficult. Perfect storm. Footy culture is that you never blame injury and fitness. Soldier out, soldier in, gives a player a chance yada yada yada.Goody's comments about no excuses is yet one more example of this culture. And the media and fans generally buy into this silly narrative. Instead they fixate on furphys such as game plan and stupid rumours of ructions to try and make sense of the poor form. Blind freddy can see we are not fit enough, key players are carrying injuries in games and that a third of our best players are out injured.

  17. Whilst I agree with giving Keilty n Petty a shot, and I agree with our season being finished, this is the sort of post that belongs on the troll banner a few weeks ago. I like many of your posts dazzle but this is poor form mate .

  18. Truth be told, I'm more uncomfortable sitting next to you than surrounded by people. However, your 'get-up' seems to create a large number of vacant seats in the area, so it's less crowded and easier to spread out. I'm ok with what you wear, others are not. Each to their own!

  20. Christ the FD doesn't have a bloody clue. OMAC and Wagner in, FMD. Should've given Keilty a run along with Sparrow. Both have way more upside than the dud inclusions. Another huge tick to Goody and his selection panel ?

  21. It’s not like we have a strong list of players who could have come in. Bar a player debuting, it was always going to be ‘meh’. in hindsight, the club completely overrated the list and got rid of some decent depth. I would have much preferred the inclusions of Bugg, Tyson or Kent.

  22. Smart selections: O Mac allows Tom (our best KPF) to go forward, as does J Wagner for Fritsch.

  26. Ben Brown would be useless with us because his number 1 avenue to goal is free kicks. We're not allowed to receive any inside f50, so he'd be lucky to get a kick.

  28. Sheeit Frost is the LEAST of our concerns When ?? And IF?? May and Lever ever make it back to full fitness and play good footy and we have a full complement to choose from ... Guess What???? Frosty stays .. In the side as a Tall Wing option!! Give the Guy a Break, has been very good this year!

  29. With Preuss unavailable, would like to have seen Keilty debut; see if he could have made an impact as. Forward/Ruck.

  30. I would have persisted with Weideman, but it's easy to understand the logic. Win and no-one will be complaining.

  31. I would rather lose blooding a couple of recruits with mobility than guarantee a loss with the slowest backline in the league. The only chance we have is if the ball never goes into their forward line. Richmond had one of their worst teams in for the year against us too.

  34. Sadly, this game has been considerably watered down. Not only is it not at night it is not an FTA time slot, so very little exposure for the cause. Also, the 'pink ladies and men' won't be walking onto the MCG so there is no pre-game recognition of the cause. I have been on the MCG for this cause and it was a moving and surreal experience. It was at night and the lights went down and quite emotional. Very sad that someone at the club isn't investing time in this.

  35. I too am really [censored] off at the moment and decided not to attend on Saturday. However, @Moonshadow , pleaded with me to go because he has no friends and is uncomfortable being alone. Anyway, for some reason, a sliver of optimism has been ignited and I think we have some chance. My main concern is who is going to kick goals to give us a winning score. I really hoped Preuss would be back as he appears to be good for a couple himself but, more importantly, gives us some structure. Dropping Weid won't make much difference because he's given us [censored] all this year. We urgently need TMac to regain some form and god help us could we find a crumber. I've said it before but I would like to see Jones playing forward pocket.

  36. Have genuinely lost all interest. My last game I’ll be attending until Queens Bday as I’m off overseas for 3 weeks, and actually feel relieved. Usually I’d pay to watch the games lives while I’m away, but I’ve decided a break from this club for 3 weeks will be good. So yeah, football on Saturday. Meh.

  37. And that's our fault. I recall reading somewhere that when Peter Jackson came to the club he couldn't believe that we'd not made more of this opportunity. It has the possibility of being turned into a blockbuster event but we've somehow let it slip. To make it a "blockbuster" game, we need to promote it more, get another club involved who we play every year to provide a sense of occasion and eventually tradition (I'd choose the Bulldogs), involve our AFLW team in some fashion and persist with the "pink ladies" walking onto the ground as it get people involved, raises money and awareness and gives the event a "purpose". It should also be a night game as it would make the pink ladies walking onto the ground more theatrical. In addition, we should make use of of our Number 1 female ticketholder (do we have one? If not, we should) as the face/voice of the round. It can't be that hard to be creative and make it into an event game which draws at least 60,000 people to the MCG every year, irrespective of the positions on the ladder of the competing teams.

  38. One hell of a guy. A hero. The Norm Smith of WWI. His own man. Took no prisoners. A brilliant officer who butted heads with his peers and commanding officers particularly the Brits who he regarded as pompous, incompetent and nervous of battle. Loyal to his men and they to him. Fought in Gallipoli and the Western Front. Would not take leave because he refused to leave his men. He was the General who planned the retaking of Villers Bretonneux from the Germans a second time after the British had lost the town. The second battle which Pompey meticulously planned was decisive in stopping the Germans from taking Amiens. One of the most decisive battles in the War. He was also the General who famously told his troops and British troops that they would be shot if they deserted the scene of battle. Monash is often regarded as the commanding officer that led the Aussies to victory at VB but it was actually Pompey Elliott. Monash stated that the victory at VB was the finest of the war. It is why the local school at Villers Bretonneux has a large sign over the playground saying ""N'Oublions Jamais l'Australie"" or Let us Never Forget Australia.

  39. I have a good feeling about this week which is pretty much all I'm hanging my hat on. The only other time I've had a good feeling going into the game was against Sydney so we shall see if my spidey senses can go 2 from 2.

  40. Agree, now is the time to do it but with a balanced selection policy. Sparrow should come in and I’d like to see Kielty get a game to see what he can do. I know Tim Smith was ok last week but he is not young and therefore, not the future. Kielty should have been picked ahead of him in my opinion. Not sure Garlett deserves another game. Despite the fact he can produce goals he was very poor last week

  42. I cant believe a number of members on this thread believe that certain players who are out of form, shouldn't be dropped! Comments like: 'Its not going to be of any benefit' or 'its not going to improve his confidence'......what a load of [censored]! I know our stocks are low, however, in my opinion, there has never been a better 'kick in the [censored]' for players to go back to Casey & having to prove themselves, rather than just accept that even though they are consistently playing poorly, that they are still gifted senior games. I just can't see how Weiderman is going to 'all of a sudden grow an extra leg & be outwardly confident overnight. you know what.....its actually ok to be dropped & go back to prove yourselves.....plenty of others aren't gifted the opportunities that Sam & other players have had this season. Anyway, enough by me, sorry!

  43. Disrespectful comment about someone who served our country. Anyhoo. Comparing the hierarchy of defence and a sporting club is like comparing apples to oranges (both delicious but that’s about it).

  44. This is so true. Every game I have watched apart from the opening quarter against Port this team has looked lacking in confidence. When you don't have confidence in you body it translates in every facet of the game. This has been most obvious when the flow of the game goes against us. Those are the moments when you back yourself and your team mates preparation and fitness to dig in and run hard for each other. That's just not happening. I don't think our depth is really poor. We just have so many players in the team each week who look off the pace due to limited preseasons and they're key players: Melksham, Jones, Petracca, Harmes, Jetta and Tom McDonald. How are you supposed to execute structures and game plan consistently when you don't have confidence in yourself and your team mates knowing that your body isn't going to hold up the way you would like across four quarters. I appreciate the club not wanting to make this an excuse but it is a fact and being brought more to the surface is helping gain better understanding of why this team is under performing.

  46. It’s not that we are losing it’s the way we are losing. Richmond and Hawthorn are still playing the same way even as results haven’t been to the same level. We haven’t lost so many players that it’s impossible to field a midfield that can run both ways, a backline that can win the ball and take it away and a forward line that works together. The lack of balance at the contest - in the air or on the ground - and lack of run are both huge list and coaching issues. A team should be more than the sum of their parts, we are less

  47. Just a couple of weeks ago the club took a stand against online trolling. I reckon we Demonlanders should respect what the club and players were trying to do and improve our game. The two disrespectful names/descriptions used here are just two examples. I'm not a great fan of allegedly funny nicknames for clubs such as Essendope, either. But at least that's not targetting an individual. Names like these are just pathetic, and I'd like to see Demonland be more respectful of all who contribute to the wonderful game of AFL.

  48. I was there in 1987 when Gary Lyon broke his leg on the outer wing at the Whitten oval and listening to the Hawks and Cats game for updates in the last Quarter as were the majority of the Melbourne supporters. The crowd cheering with excitement as we all were stuck on the radio listening to the game down Geelong where Dunstall kicks the goal to put the Hawks in front with less than a minute to go. The crowd goes wild as Melbourne are going to win but it is Hawthorn that wins and not the siren that blew at the Whitten oval against the Bulldogs. An amazing day as we win by 15 points make the finals for the first time in 23 years. The tear and joy and the smiles and elation a remarkable day of footy unforgettable. To see Robbie play in the finals was better than anything at the time. Steven Stretch and Todd Viney come to memory when l watch Billy and Jack play. OH WELL i GOT CARRIED AWAY.

  49. Im the same @Gorgoroth, I really cbf with the AFL and the direction it's taking I will always support the Dees and pay my membership but I don't want to go to games or watch or support anything the AFL is doing. I suddenly have realised how some of the older generations feel, the game is changing and we won't even recognise it in 5 - 10 years. We seemed determined to go down the American path of FA and selling out for the almighty dollar so gil and the players can fill their pockets. I will give anyone $10000 who can convince me a night GF is all about the footy and not the tv/corporate revenue it will make the AFL
