I watched Oscar closely at the games I attended. He has made a vast improvement and I can't believe the negative posts he still receives. He has muscled up but more importantly, has learnt to hold his position much more strongly in a contest. He has also gained confidence/assurance and has more (and better) decision making time. His kicking out of defence is generally good. The club stuck by Oscar and have been rewarded with a top defender who will get even better.13 points

Harmes is only going to get better. Imagine training all summer with the inside mids. Jones is ordinary out on a wing. I think 2019 could be his last. I'd be amazed if 2020 isn't. Tyson is hopeless out on a wing. I'm happy for Tyson to stay as depth on the inside, but if I'm Tyson I'm not staying. But if Tyson is a stupid person he may be happy to.7 points

It doesn't suit their purposes because they need to sell hope. Another year under the dour Ross Lyon and no sign of tangible improvement. They need Hogan and they'll desperately pay to get him. Wowza. And Rosco's pregnant.7 points

Clubs learnt from the 2016 Gipps fiasco when both Adelaide and Carlton went public, dug their heals in and ended up with egg on face. The process for a contracted player now is: player talks to other club, clubs talk to each other, if deal can be done player announces request for trade. All this happens behind closed doors. If no deal can be done no player trade request. Numerous trades in the pipeline right now are following that pattern. A few examples: Hogan, May, Vandenberg, Wingard, Neale, Shiel. So, don't be fooled. Contracted player will say nothing until clubs have things sorted. In the meantime everything else is fugazzi!7 points

This situation is easily solved....or easily explained. Those that can't see this will continue to experience angst. I have none. Good luck to all concerned..but better luck to us Relax, the FD has this. Stay calm and enjoy the entertainment. Gotta love the circus7 points

Okay that argument needs to be nipped in the bud. Not all first round picks are of equal value. You do realise the two first rounders Adelaide received off us for Lever ended up being picks 10 & 16. That is a far cry from the 4 & 5 or even 5 & 9 people want for Hogan. Lever is a star, worth every bit of picks 10 & 16 and the FD did the right thing getting that deal done early in trade week regardless of whether or not he was contracted. The Hogan situation is a different kettle of fish requiring a whole different approach.6 points

yep, he'll be 28 come rfa time, plus if he's forced to stay against his wishes, knowing he's just treading water and unpopular with the football dept. his form could easily drop and he ends up an end of round 1 compo for gcs not saying that would happen, just that it's no surety he will go band 1 in 12 months time6 points

He has interest from Victorian clubs so I would think if the trade & deal is right he will be on the move. He is a good player, it's just our list has similar types and the FD are backing others ahead of him. Will be a good addition at a club that he suits (clubs with plenty of outside run to cover) as he was for us when he first came on board.6 points

We will have to disagree. It is about the list being better next year than it was this year. That is the only outcome that matters. Proving you are tough in trade week doesn’t win you premierships.6 points

If Fremantle wait another year for Hogan they’ll possibly have WC to compete with as well.6 points

I’m not trying to rattle you mate. I don’t mind the abrasive nature of some of your posts as it just adds another layer of difference to this forum which can at times become a merry go round as evidenced by this thread. But, there is a thing called hypocrisy that you may be familiar with. It exists quite a lot on this forum with some posters potting away at others and throwing barbs that actually add SFA value to the conversation but at the same time thinking they are. I get that you sometimes are fed up with the “hysterical nature” of this site which is your perception and that’s fine. I get bored reading it to be honest but it does seem to be your one wood in a golf bag that only carries a few clubs. And by the way, it’s ‘you’re’ not your. Keep posting big fella.6 points

I’d be happy for us to keep Vanders over Jones but if we are losing AvB then Jones would be a good return.6 points

I will lose a lot of faith in what the MFC stand for A 23 year old Key Forward should be a valued asset Stephen May is an overweight defender, who has been Captain of a VFL Standard Club. I don’t see them as equal tendor5 points

Rosco is not easy to work with I believe, not sure if Hogan has ever been barrelled by Roos or Goodwin who appeared to tread lightly around him, bet they locked Ross away when Hoges toured the “facilities”.5 points

Reports suggest he was waiting for the B & F before announcing his decision. If that’s right and he didn’t announce that he was staying last night, then expect the news by Monday that he’s selected North Melbourne.5 points

I think Freo are playing hard ball with Neale so that pick is not actually on the table fr us to try to grab. They will let that trade go to the last minute. Why not? Suits their purposes to go slow but we, on the other hand, will need to act early if we want May. Probably means we will argue fr pick 5 and their next years first rounder.5 points

I've been thinking since last year's Watts' thread that this site may have over-corrected with too many steady, middle-of-the-road inside posters. We could probably do with a good trade-week and some fresh injections to re-balance the Demonland list.5 points

Cannot believe anyone is interested in Menzel. Even if he was free - as in we didn't have to give up anything and we didn't have to pay him and he didn't take up a spot on our list - I wouldn't want him.5 points

I cannot understand the desire for May. We have tallish defenders at Casey in Petty and Keilty who may be able to play a similar role as May. Also lever will be back which will make our defence much stronger. If we are to lose Hogan then picks 4 & 5 ( not 9 and 10 ) should go on the 2 best vic kids in the draft. Personally if we don't get 4 and 5 he plays another year with us.4 points

Agree. Well ahead of where his brother was at same age. It never ceases to amaze me how short people's memories are. Tmac was likely trade bait if he didn't reinvent himself as one of the best forwards going around such was his horrible field kicking, poor decision making (eg taking on risky kicks) and damaging turnovers. The above issues are my concern f ok r frost. As the dragon points turnover merchants in your back half will kill you against top sides. And omac soft? What a joke. Puts his body on the line every single time. And keeps going. I went to the wc game. It was hot. Despite being up against it omac gave 110% effort to the very last second. Gutsy and impressive. Watch his afl stats pro footage for proof of that.4 points

Honestly, with the exception of Hogan, has any of the players who have left/are leaving, going to dent our premiership hopes? And if we end up getting a rock solid defender in May, and some outside pace in KK and a backup ruck, does anyone really care if we replace the others who left with more speculative draft picks or discards from other clubs? How will they be any worse than the players we let go, who are clearly not good enough to make it? No point holding onto players who can’t crack a game for the sake of limiting list changes. As for Tyson and AVB, we won’t let them go for nothing. We will try to get decent compensation, which will balance them leaving.4 points

i don't want to argue back and forth over this, suffice to say both players have deep underlying deficiencies. it's just that personally, i believe that frost's are more easily fixed via coaching and game-time. oscar is soffffft. even if he adds another 5-10kg, he will be soft. he is a great kick, if not a bit slow (decision-making wise), but super reliable and doesn't make brain-fades like his brother used to. HOWEVER, he is not competitive. one of the very few in our team with this trait now (an essential trait of a defender if you ask me!). frost is competitive. sam lacks super-reliable foot-skills and composure now, but i believe they would come, in the same way that oscar has developed his. re: what the footy dept. will do.. you are probably right. i don't agree with it, but you are probably right. i understand o-mac doesn't need to be overly physical with so many of those types now in our backline. however, in pointing out how much turnovers coming out of our backline kill us, you are turning a blind eye to the one-on-one disasters that o-mac is consistently involved in. whether it be buddy or a lesser forward from a bottom club. the ball moves past him and oscar takes an eternity to JOG back after it. just no desperation. no balls-to-the-wall attitude that we get from hibberd, jetta, and frost. again, each to their own, this is merely my opinion.4 points
