  1. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-fixture-2018-saints-in-mix-to-play-on-good-friday-20171020-gz5e40.html The Pies have formally requested this. The proposal is tied to alternating the QB match and the season opener each season. You know you're doing something right when the pies are requesting 2 matches a year against you

  3. So I'm Jack's uncle. How would you suggest I prove that? Why does that cause you so much concern? And why does it offend you that I would find it difficult to continue supporting the Dees given that Jack has been moved on? My post about that was honest and I thought I explained my dilemna quite well. Obviously you beg to differ. In any case I didn't think it warranted the aggressive response. Assuming that it is ok for someone on DL (an MFC member at that) to report the other side of the story, and other than what I have mentioned above, is there anything in particular that I have posted that has caused you grief? Some posters on here claim that I can't possibly be objective about what I have to say (and so obviously believe I am Jack's uncle) because of my relationship with Jack. I can understand where they're coming from but I would like to think that I have been more objective than most in what I have posted. I wonder if any posters on DL recognise that the same 'objectivity' logic that has been applied to me, also applies to themselves and the FD i.e. that their objectivity can be affected because of their "relationship". Anyone who thinks everything the FD of any AFL club puts out in the media is the truth, rather than just what they want you to hear, really does need a reality check. There are a number of posters that publish opinions or rumours on here and present them as fact. Not surprisingly, each time I have asked for them to back up their claims they either don't come back at all or what they do come back with is hardly factual . I take particular umbrage when comments are made about Jacks 'partying ways' (e.g. on the pi55 3 or 4 times a week) or the supposedly poor view in which the players and/or all the other AFL clubs view him. You will have noticed that I haven't taken issue with any posters that have stated an opinion on Jack's football skills or performance or whether he should be moved on. Because everyone's entitled to their opinion. Apologies if I haven't quite shown, at all times on this thread, the respect and good manners that I should have. Hardly an island in that respect.

  4. Oh, I thought Max was disgruntled because the club traded Watts. Guess not.

  5. I'm hoping not. I'd like to have an annual Round 1game Saturday arvo vs Collingwood at the G with the QB return. Split both gates

  6. The impending signing of Max Gawn to an extended contract will allow the club to concentrate on other free agents and players who would otherwise be out of contract by the end of 2018. Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn close to signing new deal

  8. I have a huge soft spot for Col personally, so I'm glad the club has found him a suitable role. His journey from kid in Tassie who nearly had to give up footy because he couldn't get a lift to training, to the handy, gutsy defender he was during the Bailey era, to almost the posterboy for the down trodden during the Neeld era - it's been quite the ride. At his best he was quick, desperate, always put his body on the line and could play on tall or small. All the best Col, hopefully this is the start of great things.

  9. YeahI just rang up and said I admire the passion. But just get over Watts. Been on the list for 9 years most only lag 3-4.. move on! Marko and ox chuckled abit. I had to be quick as it wa just before the news. I wanted to mention being a member for 57 years doesn’t mean you understand list management.

  10. Kind of agree on this one OD. There seems a bigger risk on the investment with Max due to his knees and body generally. We need both his ruck ability at the bounce/ball up and marking power/mobility around the ground. He needs to be able to jump and run. Could we ask that a clause in his contract stipulates that he is contracted as a footballer and not a comedian. Lets just focus on the footy Max.

  12. There was a recruiter who once drafted Morton. He had a full-time job as a recruiter. He presumably spent hours and hours pouring over footage of Morton. He no doubt interviewed Morton, and maybe even ordered a psych report on Morton. He perhaps spoke to Morton's school-teachers and sports' coaches, possibly even Morton's mum: who, for the sake of economy, we'll presume here to call Mrs. Morton. I do have my doubts that our star recruiter cared much for trends in physical conditioning, but, regardless, the point of this story, is. simply, Morton.

  14. Flown under the radar a bit but Ryan would be a good addition to our forward line now Watts has moved on. He won the Bernie Naylor medal with 73 goals, and a quick look at his highlights package shows he can play tall, and would present a decent marking option. He was overlooked at last years draft due to some attitude/professional issues but seems to have cleaned those up this year. An associate of mine knows his family from Geraldton and is of the opinion that an interstate move might suit him better, allowing him to concentrate on developing his game. Would be worth pulling the trigger with a late 2nd rounder, according to the AFL website we're one of 3 clubs with an interest in Ryan, WC and Port are apparently looking at him too.

  16. TEX did not cover himself with glory on grand final day. A time for him to shine both during match and after match and he failed. Defeat is a test of character and strength. Not the behaviour of a good leader or Captain.

  20. Fantastic week for our club, think they achieved all their objectives and secured the players they needed to improve our list Picks Available - 29, 31, 36 and 47 1/ Lever - huge get, the best kid traded to our club in many, many years. 2/ Balic - good upside for the price we paid I saw this kid a number of times in WA this year. 3/ Picks - essential brought in an extra usable picks into this years draft ie pick 36 Outs 1/ Pick 10 - pretty much a raffle pick in this years draft so I'm not worried about exchanging it to get Lever & another raffle pick pick 36 2/ Watts - sad to see Jack leave and wish him all the best at the PAFC, he will always be a Demon to me. Wish to thank the FD for all their efforts in this tough, stressful and often emotional week. Im very happy and looking forward to embracing our very positive and bright future. Go Dees.

  21. Although I'm an atheist, I've always been quite fond of his name. My top-three favourite names currently on the list at the MFC are as follows: Petracca Bugg Gawn Apologies to Salem, Stretch and Oliver. And Pedo has his own special category.

  23. I know highlights videos are deceptive but boy can this bloke fly and then hold them. Looks like an indigenous Robbo. One point, there were no highlights of his ground play, picking up the ball, running, kicking, tackling etc.

  24. The problem was we took the Toump not as a bargain because he had the hip injuries, we paid top price for an injured player. Who then struggled to show why he was a pick 3. No weapons that I could detect, small in stature, no speed, not particularly evasive, not a great kick. Maybe he had that before his injuries that led us take him early. Certainly many rated him as top10.

  25. Your right Dr. How dare we indulge ourselves, & be critical of our recruiters of days gone by. What would we know. Come to think of it, we shouldn't watch the game and cheer or boo as well, as we aren't Pro players or coaches, so we wouldn't be qualified to make any judgement at all, of the AFL's game. You make a valid point, good Dr.

  28. From what I've read Sydney, Collingwood, Geelong and Port were interested in Jack. Jack decided in week one of trade week that he wanted to go to Port but couldn't announce it as lose ends were being tied up. I took this to mean the trade picks and the portion of salary to be paid by Port. So I for one believe you that Jack had other offers. I heard WB's Football Manager, Chris Grant yesterday talk about Stringer and why he was being let go. Unlike mfc he made it clear the issues were best kept in-house as they wanted to treat Jake with dignity and respect. The same cannot be said of mfc's coach, captain and football manager. Their public critique of Jack was constant; a very harsh way to treat a loyal albeit imperfect employee who is being exited. People say everyone knew Jack's deficiencies. Probably true but our club didn't need to keep reminding everyone of them and certainly not after the deal was done, which Mahoney did. Not sure what was going on inside mfc but deliberately devaluing one's asset isn't very smart in my book. Despite all that, our Jack held his head high and did not once comment on what mfc was putting out to the public. He took it on the chin. He was gracious, respectful and showed goodwill to the end. You must be a very proud uncle, Chewy.

  29. Including Cat B rookies it's 47 on your list. So it has been ok to 4 rucks if one of them is a Cat B or you've got a useful player like Maynard on your Cat B list. The issue is how to development them now the VFL Development league is gone. Filipovic or any other really young ruck would be better off playing local footy now than sitting on the pine for large parts of VFL games. I think that's a factor in our decision to keep 3 and not have a Spencer type mature ager. If we had Spencer again then King and Filipovic would do nothing, they'd almost have to rotate weeks off. Now at least the young guys can share the ruck time. King has shown me enough that in a year or two he can be a solid back up. Find a Pedersen replacement in the next year or two might be harder to do.

  30. “I would like to point out that this decision has been some time in the making –myself and Josh have been having conversations for a while now. In the end, the well was dry. I couldn’t live the trademark anymore as a player. I didn’t want to waste a year remaining on the list, both personally and for the team. One H. Lumumba would have done well to take this one out of Colin's playbook.

  31. That chip at a flat-out sprint was sweet, but his general field kicking under little to no pressure looks very suspect to me. A lot of short passes that made the target stretch to pull them in. One was way over the guy's head. Over those distances he should be hitting them square in the chest. Not the sort of thing you should see in a highlight reel.

  33. I fear what another Ling from Geelong would do to the dressing room. Obvious, cliche-ridden ramblings. Constant regurgitation of meaningless stats, mangling of the English language... For our boys mental health lets not draft Ling!

  34. Agree with all WB. He hasn’t actually given us any information, Jack was also recently interviewed where he stated he lives with his best mate and cousin. I’m quite dubious of these types of posters.

  35. You're a good poster Wise. In my observation, using the word 'pal' tends to fire people up. In this thread in particular, it'd be kind of be good to take the oxygen out of the fire, rather than add to it. As an aside, I have found the arguments put forward for trading Watts to be absolutely compelling. In between the 'lols' and the other stupid posts, there is actually some interesting and informative discussion on this thread. To those posters, thanks.

  47. Disagree thoroughly, OD. Dangerfield was good, no doubt about that, but the evenness and consistency of the rest of the Geelong team was the key. Buddy is a champion, but couldn't hit the side of a barn last night. All players have such days, but the Swans had no one else who stepped up. For me, it was a classic case of a champion team vs a team of champions. We don't need another Tilbrook; we just need 22 players like Jack Viney.
