Watched the game. It was a great win and the team was fantastic! A couple of things from me: - Melksham is too good for the vfl (yes, I'm serious). He was heavily involved and was one of the key ingredients to the win. - Mitch King is developing nicely. He looks like more player than project. Still a while off AFL ready, but is certainly developing ahead of expectation. Will see if he can back it up next game. - Huelett is back in town. Took some strong grabs, and provided a real target up forward. Really even effort all over for Casey.10 points

He even lists a top 10. Jarrod Witts is in it. Whether the oversight was intentional or otherwise, it is credibility destroying. Hibberd is clearly performing well above most of those players and has been in our top 5 consistently since joining the team. Anyway, whatever. I'm long past looking for external plaudits. Hibberd was a fantastic trade and I couldn't be more pleased with his output to date. I knew he was a decent player but so far he's been even better than I anticipated.6 points

How the feck can they play super slow HD highlights at quarter breaks but scores reviews are at three frames per minute?5 points

This made me laugh. But at the end of the day, we weren't good enough. Close, but not quite. The evenness of the comp is now our friend. We can still get a roll going, and find a spot in the top four if we are up to it.5 points

I think Garry Lyon summed it up best when he said we need to learn how to deal with expectation. Footy is played above the shoulders, so in that respect I agree with you. Look at Geelong last night. They played like men possessed, while weeks earlier they jogged behind or beside their opponents. Belief and momentum are funny things. Let's hope we have them towards the end of the season.5 points

Hmm, who was I hoping would win? Hawthorn or Collingwood? Bit like would I rather have cholera or leprosy?4 points

Yes I was thinking that. I was also thinking Dunn and Howe are in Collingwoods backline and we have Lewis and Hibberd in ours....there is a footy God.4 points

Treloar " when we play like that we can match it with anyone, tonight proved it" no, Adam you barely beat a side sitting in the bottom four with most of its best team not playing.4 points

Not a bad thing that Bucks wins tonight. Looks like he's not taking the Pies anywhere soon, so best if he's kept in the drivers seat for as long as possible.4 points

Not sure how I feel about the Pies v Hawks game. On the one hand I never want Hawthorn to win, on the other hand I never want Buckley to leave.4 points

But in a positive for the Pies, they are following Buckley's game plan to the letter.4 points

I think consistency is the key. Win a few games in a row, players start to trust each other and skills improve with confidence. Not sure what this season will hold, but the undeniable strength is our midfield. They are ferocious. We have stopped picking players that have "attributes" and now picking contested animals that actually know how to play the game. I'm convinced that opposition teams would not look forward to playing us now. This reminds me of the good teams in recent years - particularly Brisbane. Hoping finals this year so they can get a taste of what it's about. Then hopefully they get addicted to September action4 points

It's worse than that. The AFL media unit filmed the moon landings. It was supposed to be only for promotional purposes but got out because Alan Aylett was blackmailing J. Edgar Hoover. Also the World Trade Centre collapsed because it was made from second hand steel left over from when Waverley was demolished. Steel that the AFL knew was weakened from years of exposure to chip grease and tomato sauce!4 points

Go easy on Bruce, he is a lovely bloke and is not well. He is working under difficulty. He loves the game and yes is too flowery in his commentary, but cut him some slack.4 points

I must say, at risk of being accused of communism, splitting centralized gate receipts (after deducting true running costs perhaps) is the only way towards equality of opportunity. The "home team" concept is even more farcical when so many teams share "home grounds". The current system of gifting prime time games to the power clubs, often regardless of recent performance, and relegating those less favorably regarded by HQ to Sunday twilight games etc, only perpetuates the inequity.4 points

Rohan Connolly barracks for Essendon. His bias won't let him publicly acknowledge that his team let go of a player that makes our team considerably better.4 points

Your username is suspiciously close to an anagram of Gil-Bot . . . In addition, you joined Demonland at the exact time of the commencement of the tanking investigation. A sensible thing for someone associated with the chief investigator to do in exploring potential leads. And, one of your only other three posts here was extolling the virtues of us playing an additional game in Darwin, as it would be 'good for the NT Tourism as well as for the MFC.' Lastly, another slip-up in the same fashion as the recent 'Rangie HSE' troll who never responded to my accusations of not being an actual Melbourne fan before finally thankfully disappearing: 'As Melbourne supporters you'd well know how it feels in August when all hope is shot'. Supporters of teams don't generally refer to their own team in a fully collective sense as 'they' and other supporters as 'you', but use the pronouns 'us' and 'we'. Confess now, or I will scour the other supporter-boards for a match in prose-style to unmask you as a social-media infiltrator in the employ of Gillon.4 points

Tough interview to watch. Daniel certainly looked uncomfortable, takes courage to agree to that. It was clearly an interview about one footballer's gaming addiction rather than an interview about football. He has some demons he has to deal with on a daily basis that essentially rule his life and determine his relationship with his wife and kids, his friends and family, and his employers. I admire his ability to take responsibility and fess up, and his determination to be a better male role model than he had experienced in the past. He knows the legacy that he has been given and what he wants to pass on. Addictions of all kinds can ruin lives. I enjoyed watching him as a player and wish him well in the future.4 points

I agree, we have a lot of good options coming off half back currently at the club and I'm still of the opinion that the player we need off the half back line is just nursing an AC joint. We need to identify a few younger talls that we can groom as ruck forwards. or tall defenders, I think Spencil, for the benefit of his own game is going to need to find another club in order to get a number one ruck gig. Can't see us ever playing him and Gawn in the same team, and his currency is at it's prime for both him and us as a club... Honestly I can't see a lot of holes in our list except for a key back with good footskills, We are turning into a destination club, but I still think the best prospects for elite players exist already on our list. I am no longer fussed that every 'star' is being linked to St Kilda and Richmond... let them screw up their lists by playing over the odds for a player. Regardless of who they might land, they have several other holes in their lists that need attention.3 points

I feel like you're forgetting or flat out ignoring their injury list... they are missing about a 3rd of their best 22... and they are still winning more often than not. Coniglio, Griffen, Haynes, Hopper, Smith from their injury list would all be walk up starts in our side that is just 2 players short of full strength. They are debating whether they could fit them all in. You could make a case for Buntine, Deledio and maybe even that kid Setterfield getting in our side. So don't doubt the giants for a second. They arn't unbeatable.. but they are by far the most capable side in the comp.3 points

This scenario is a carbon copy of the Hawks game. Going in against a long-term finalist who is having a "down" year, and that has bullied the club for 10 years. On our home turf. Outright favourites. We're coming off a big win, opposition coming off a big loss. Must win. No excuses.3 points

KFC... No lie. KFC has offered Zinger burger vouchers to all members whenever an opposition player kicks it OOF. I hope they all get so fat the stadium collapses on them. (edit - Geelong members)3 points

Was reading the age article going through what they deem as the most successful trades of last year - and whilst lewis got a tiny nod, was amazed to not see one word written about Pig. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/the-best--and-the-rest--of-2016-afl-trades-20170518-gw8akg.html yes he was injured but he's been huge for us since coming into the side and just gets better each week. Broader accolades outside the club or not - he's been a phenomenal pick up for us and I've no doubt if this article is re-visited at seasons end his name will be well up that list.3 points

Im not one to get sucked in by trade rumours but an Essendon supporter posted a couple of interesting posts in regards to Zac Jones and few other. Apparently he has very close contacts at the Dees and i think he was the same bloke that was also harping on Hibberd our prime target around August. Anyway here are some of his post. Melbourne heavily into him. Very confident that he'll play in red and blue next year. His brother is a nice part of it but that's down on the list for Melbourne. He's the #1 target for you guys this year, will mostly be played off HB if you do get him. And then on Daniel Mcstay Melbourne are interested in him. Probably #3 on their list right now. Also there was a little comment on Jake Lever who he said that we were hugely into but were inform that he was set to sign soon. And then this comment.. Oh, Lever was your #1 target. Your list management team have identified 2 places where you can push ahead of the pack: outside players with pace (Jones in is to push Hunt further up the field) and a 3rd tall player with intercept skills. McStay is currently second on the list there, behind someone north of the Murray. The talent you have on your list is fantastic. Just to repeat that this was a passionate Essendon who apparently has strong links to the MFC.3 points

Will be a huge boost for Casey to get Gawn in into the team for the rest of the year. Pedo will be in full flight by then of course.3 points
