http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/jobe-watson-has-returned-his-2012-brownlow-medal-to-the-afl-20170208-gu8g0o.html A bit more info on return of the medal: "The delivery of the medal was handled by McLachlan, Watson and Watson's father Tim". But Gil is still stalling: "...the league CEO added he had "no idea" what the AFL would do with the relinquished Brownlow." There is only one thing to do - Melt it down so that no-one can gain any future commercial value from it. And Gil should demand Essendon take out the 2012 Brownlow medal from Watson's profile on their website!5 points

We are as happy or as unhappy as we decide to be Hem. Great to see you back on deck. Whilst none of us can ever agree on a definition of truth it seems,a few truths are hitting home to the Parliamentarians.Cory really timed his exit/re-entry beautifully but then he never stood for an election to get in. Cutting travel allowances for ex-ministers is probably the greatest thing the battler from Point Piper has done so far. My two least fave porky politicians are Kim Beazley and Alexander the Downer ,yet they know the system well enough to have gotten themselves diplomatic posts. Their daddies must have taught them that one. "Here's how you do it son,we will get you the seat, you appease everyone and don't make waves, just do your time, then when everyone knows you are only doing time you'll have plenty of mates to give you a soft landing in a nice house OS.Pass the gravy train/boat please and get me the dessert menu."5 points

We traded pick 2 for Tyson and another pick + steak knives each way. We did not trade Kelly for Tyson & Salem in the 2013 draft. The comparison is moot, we may have picked Scharenberg & Freeman a massive loss or we may have picked Bontompelli & Cripps massive win. We will never know. I think both clubs would be happy, particularly not picking Scharenberg, Freeman or Aish.3 points

The kid could play but he wasn't overly confident...apparently Neeld's approach took whatever he had. Not saying he would have made it with better development, we will never really know that, but he was shot by the time he got to North.2 points

The competition for spots is refreshing. Weid v Pedo Oscar v Frost Garlett-Kent (when fit)-JKH, throw in Dion Johnstone Mids battling for position.2 points

Throw in Petracca I'm not sure there was in 2016 but this year there should be. Gus looks to have made good strides with his fitness and hopefully this calf injury clears up. If that's the case he'll contribute as a half forward, on ball and probably rotate to a wing. Clarry didn't look in great knick when he came back but seems to have tightened up and if he's improved enough to get his time on ground up over 70% he'll be in the team for sure. Tracc isn't the fittest guy around just yet but this time last year he was in rehab for his foot injury after his knee recovery. We'll need him more as a forward and he won't be ready for big midfield minutes but he should be fitter and have a bigger match fitness base this year. I'm sure there's times when his work rate drops off but around the ball his defensive work was really strong in year 1. I hope he steps that up. All 3 need to be developed the right way - manage their bodies, focus on developing attacking and defensive games etc but they should be able to play in the same side.2 points

These people are without doubt some of the slimiest creatures to ever be involved in our great game. I reckon its a deflection, and a deal has already been done to hand it back to the convicted drug cheat after the heat dies down.2 points

Sorry Biff. Of course, you thought you were wrong once, only to find out that you made a mistake on that as well. Such Conventions and Protocols are binding under international law. If they weren't no-one would ever have been prosecuted for war crimes. So I guess those that prosecuted were bullshitters as well?2 points

Not much to update at this stage but the VFL website has a link to VFL list changes for 2017 which will continue to be updated as further list changes are confirmed by clubs. At this stage there's less information on the site than in previous posts above but I believe the list will be finalised soon. CASEY - In: Ben Giobbi (Noble Park) / Yilber Zijai (Sandringham) - Out: Yarran Jaffer-Williams (Port Melbourne) / Declan Keilty (Melbourne AFL) / Oscar McInerney (Brisbane AFL) / Tim Smith (Melbourne AFL) A couple of players from Frankston in Nathan Foote and Nathan Gardiner have been mentioned (along with big McGrath) as possible recruits from that club which is currently in recess. I must say that it's time the Casey Demons got the website up and running so that fans could be better informed. Perhaps they're going to run it as part of the MFC site? Which reminds me I need to update my avatar.2 points

The OX unfortunately epitomised the MFC in the professional era. Now of course other clubs have had players go down 2, 3, sometimes 4 times with the same injury, but that we so loosely and casually allowed an absolute superstar to rush back into it not once, but twice, was in hindsight demonstrative of the club's unprofessionalism. Almost 2 decades later we still struggled with player management and only appear to now be entering the professional era. Welcome to the AFL, Melbourne *slow clap*. Don't care what anyone says, we had a premiership team from 1994 until 1998 but we could just never get a full squad on the park, and I think it was more than just bad luck. Ox, Tingay, Charles, Lovett, Lyon, among others who just always seemed to be injured during that period. Throw in Jakovich and... well... time for a beer.2 points

Lewis, Hibbert and Melksham to have fantastic seasons ... but don't make the top 10 in the B&F2 points

For anyone who's interested, we've never had a player with the surname Morse. But Code played 6 games in 1978. (With thanks to Demonwiki)2 points

Melb to dominate centre clearances by rope-a-doping teams with a combo of the Max factor and then no-ruck but 4 big bodied mids hurting the oppo as they try to clear. VDB, Pedo, Petracca flourishing in this mode. Dee mids take the over-the-head handpass to new levels and lead us to 16 wins, with major beltings of Pies, Blues, Dons and Tigers. We finish the season in second spot. We win three finals. Max, Viney and Watts all poll well for Brownlow, but Bont wins it as he plays a lone hand as Doggies experience the post GF hangover. Hibbert and Melksham slot straight in and along with Lewis play every game, with all three finishing top 10 in the MFC B&F. Casey dominate the VFL and win the VFL premiership. The next gen mids and forwards in Hogan, Wiedeman, Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca, Salem and Stretch, continue to grow and impose themselves on games, becoming critical in generating opposition crushing surges that are established as one of the new Melbourne teams trademarks in 2017. Much celebrating is done, and alcohol consumed, as we finally wipe away the failure of the past decade with the new dawn.2 points

By the end of this season, Jayden Hunt will be spoken about more than Josh Kelly when it comes to the 2013 draft. Biased? Clearly.2 points

Good points overlooked perhaps due to my bias. Agree that it would be better out of the shadow of any men's game but as a new product can leverage off the existing and grow both markets1 point

From his book it seems like his knee would have gone regardless of what he did- it was that messed up inside. I believe he changed surgeons for the third reco and it's held up ever since.1 point

Tyson is able to extract the ball when it's locked in tight, he has more strength than the others to do this. Viney is a bull at a gate as is Jones but they are both smaller mids and when it gets really congested they can't clear it like Tyson can. He mightn't look it but he's the strong man in the engine room, I've seen him wrestling for possession with Mumford and break even. I think he is our version of Joey Kennedy in that regard.1 point

Personally, I thought he had a huge amount of talent and could have been an outstanding AFL footballer... if he wanted to be. Four coaches and two clubs couldn't bring that desire out from within him.1 point

Agreed there was nothing wrong with the old one, ease of use, believe it or not I work for a company who uses software first built in the 80's it does what it is supposef to so they just update the user front end each Windows their attitude it ain't broke1 point

I would actually say that he is the most versatile of our mids. Can play inside, outside, and can go forward and hit the scoreboard. You would expect/hope Petracca would become our most versatile in due course, but Dom has him, and the rest of them, covered for versatility at this stage. I mentioned recently that Tyson reminds me of Bartel in that he will likely get pushed out of the inside mids group, not because he is significantly weaker than the others, but more that he can play just as effective in other roles. If by some fluke we were able to get Kelly, I would love to see Purple's face when the trade is signed off, given how vocal he was when the initial trade of Tyson/Pick 9 for Pick 2 took place.1 point

Bont, no doubt. Clarry will eclipse Cripps and the class of Kelly is a cherry. Bontempelli is the rare game-breaker.1 point

I can see him getting a few more whacks in the back of the head this year a la Rance last year, as more defenders get frustrated with our multi pronged attack and Jack in particular1 point

Yes, this thread is weird but it's nice to see a upbeat positive thread about Jack Watts unlike the numerous ones about him in years gone by. No opposition will ever take him lightly ever again. 2017 will belong to Jack.1 point

Talent has never been the question. It was fantastic to see him take such huge steps forward in the aspects that were questionable in 2016, he looked a different player. Hopefully the trend continues in 2017. PS yep, super weird thread.1 point

Tracca to be a minnie A.Jakovich, who kicks more goals than Hogan/Garlett combined. Hannah will be an instant success, Hunt to be renamed Flash Gordon due to his speed. Salem will dominate in the middle,he will be known as Salem's lot. The Maccas will rule the defence and most sides will be totally Maccered. Hogan will get a Buddy role floating down the ground. J.Smith will break into the seniors. T.Smith will be the starting FF. Weed will become ruck/Forward after round 5. Vince will end up going backwards.N.Jones will become a forward.Trengove will become a defender after round 7. Maynard will dominate at CHF for Casey.Frost to become a permanent Winger. We will end up 8th because we are the Dees with 13 wins. I will drink 30 bottles of Shiraz, more if we lose to trashy sides.1 point
