Over the 60+ years of my life, I have been, and still am a di ck head. You name the the stupidity and I can top it. I try not to judge today's young people because I was (am) as silly as them. However, even if the technology was available. I dont think i would have been such a giant fu ck wit to actually film myself breaking the law and then publishing it for the world to see.14 points

For those who think that we people over 65 are old they should remember we have seen the MFC win the Flag, in fact Melbourne won 7 flags in my life time. I saw 6 of them. And my first car was a Anglia Coupe with a crank handle so that we could start the car whenever the battery went flat. RACV was not very large at the time.14 points

I was a little disappointed when Robert Flower died that there wasn't more footage of him either online or on TV when I seemed to remember his last season so vividly.. Anyway, turns out with technology you can do anything these days.. so I dug up these videos at dads place and they're now available on YouTube.. I loved them all as a kid, shouting out the commentary and as I destroyed various items of furniture kicking footballs up and down the hallway.. So here's 3 of his last 4 games in pretty extended packages.. Round 22 vs Footscray - Most of the second half. Just skip straight to 24:05 for the best passage of the day and for those of us who were at the Western Oval that day pretty hard to forget. Elimination Final vs North - Semi-Final vs Sydney - Flower had 4 goals to half time and some of the passages started by Wight at full back are incredible. "From Wight, to Hughes, to Healy and there was no stopping them." For some reason we didn't keep a video of the following week.. They're a great trip down memory lane and capture three now sadly passed away former MFC players in Robert Flower, Jim Stynes and Sean Wight at their best. ..alright, Jimmy got better still Given their recent cuts, I'm not sure that ABCs lawyers are going to come after me for putting them up, though Tim Lane might for that suit.. If you're interested I've also got more from the 88 finals series that I can put up.. curiously, the last game of that series seems to be missing from the collection too however..8 points

I'd just be happy if they turned off the music between quarters. I'm sick of having to yell at the person right next to me. Oh, and you can't play atmosphere out through a set of speakers. The crowd noise coming from the PA system before the first bounce of each quarter is cringeworthy.8 points

Thanks for those, that Western oval game was the happiest I have been as a Dees supporter, absolute ecstasy it was. The finals where we smashed North and Sydney were amazing too, to this day I have not heard a louder crowd, forget about collinwood, our chants of Melbourne.....Melbourne......shook the stands.7 points

Neeld was a poor manager of men, and clearly not the brilliant coach everyone had him pegged for, but there is zero doubt in my mind he raised the standard of training in his time at Melbourne. 99% of the people on here hate the bloke, but that is something we should be thankful for. Great to hear the boys have returned in good nick, Toumpas will be my one to watch in 2015 (aside from Hulk Hogan of course!). Really want him to do well.7 points

I don't see how having a vial of thymomodulin could clear the players, it's still not proof they didn't take tb4 just that they happened to have another drug at the same time Did you drink beer the other night? No! Prove it! Here's a bottle of water from the same rough time.6 points

A very good mate of mine played for North that day. North entered the arena first. The North boys could not believe the roar when Melbourne entered the ground.6 points

I wouldn't be unhappy with a player who in his first year has equal Impact to a seven year player who finished top ten in the club b & f. It would give him the rest of his football lifetime to exceed that and make him possibly a 200+ game player of quality over his entire career.6 points

When I was a lad....(I know...Sometime ago).....I could attend any game of footy on a weekend I could walk up to the gate, buy a ticket and sit anywhere in the ground, except the members...This gave me nearly 3/4 of the ground in which to sit. If it was a big game, I just got there early and watched the seconds play I did not have to pay a premium cost to sit in certain spots....I did not have to pay for reserved seats.....I could save seats for family and friends....I could go to away games and stand in the outer and support my side. I will state that I am a MCC member but still buy my footy club membership to support my club. The AFL is slowly killing this game for me. They are pricing the game out of the ordinary supporter's reach All for the sake of corperates, TV stations, do they really want empty grounds....Bad for TV audiences I would have thought. I would not know how to buy a ticket now....I am not that computer literate.5 points

Now about those consent forms signed by the players ... Associate Professor Brian Stoffell is Head of the Social Health Sciences Unit at Flinders University. An expert in medical ethics and health law, he is Director of SA Healths Health Care Ethics Unit at FMC. Not on my watch: responsibility in the Essendon saga3 points

Article said: "Auld said it was worth questioning however why certain things happened the way they happened." Translation: "We want to know if we can make more money by tinkering with tradition and 'fixing' the few remaining things that aren't broke." Mr Auld, if you really want to improve the experience, how about pizzing off the loud music, screen and boundary LED advertising harassment, over zealous bouncers and fine dining prices for luke warm pies and watered down beer?3 points

First time posting many years of reading, my first car was an MGB maroon in colour with chrome wire wheels, used to take the wheels off and clean them in the trough with a tooth brush. Every time I took the hard top off I would crack the window screen with the clips from the soft top, consequently didn't take the hard top off very often. Also didn't take it out in the rain very often as I didn't want the chrome wires to get dirty. Loved that car almost as much as my demons. The police loved pulling me over to check out the car. Oh the memories.3 points

Its interesting when you're self confessed absorbed watcher of all this how the narrative seems to wax and wane throughout the whole sordid affair. Hird...I take full responsibility >>>>>>>> actually hes taken none EFC... We welcome and will assist any investigation >>>>> we'll fight you on the beaches we'll fight you in the streets ...and especially in court EFC...We dont know what they took or were injected with ( as if ) >>>>>> whatever it was was safe This lot could get senior jobs at the Orwellian Ministry of Truth But Dank is truly the master of double speak on the fly. Apparently when in a Football World he refers to Thymosin...he means the "good "one ...or according to him Thymomodulin But when you look on his website any and all references to Thymosin are acually to Thymosin Beta 4 (Tß4) Then we have the all important pic of the real stuff...via Wallis..of whatever it is and to think you can just go get this stuff off the shelves.....well sorta...not here granted...but why involve a compounding chemist if all you're after is >>>3 points

This is understandable given we are on our third rebuild and despite improving last year we won only 4 games and finished the year poorly, not to mention the instability at Casey and issues with the coach. The positive news is that these areas are being addressed, e.g. Bringing in some fresh experienced players, valuing clubman types to develop culture and player welfare, e.g. Byrnes, Cross, Goodwin, Miller, and strengthening our Casey alignment by appointing Plapp. Ultimately we need to start winning games but what is heartening is that our Club isnt shying away from the problems and is acting competently and deliberately to address them. The rest is up to the playing group.3 points

Seven days before draft day the media realises that SA appears underrepresented at the top end of the draft. SA's first round drought I asked the question at last week's MFC draft info night and Jason Taylor agreed that while SA was extremely well coached, it was a team that was was very even in ability and didn't have as many outstanding players as the two Victorian teams in the national carnival. On top of that, they tended to select some players who would do well at this level but might not have the attributes necessary to go further. I got the impression that this was a reference to the likes of pocket sized Caleb Daniel who starred in the champs but most pundits are suggesting might only get picked in the rookie draft. Taylor did suggest that there were a few players from SA who might come into contention when our selection at #40 comes around.3 points

Pretty harsh on Dunn i reckon Qwerty. Played 139 games to date and not completely unrealistic to think he may finish up around 200. As has been mentioned in the press Lynden is nigh impossible to beat one on one and is one of the few great kicks in the side. Yesterday Dom Tyson said he was the most underrated players in the side. Finally he has been reported twice (in one game) for hitting Boomer Harvey. The defence rests3 points

Found this on youtube. Given it's currently the off season, thought it might be worth a look. 1909 Grand Final. Carlton vs Sth Melb. Not Melbourne, but interesting nonetheless. Great shots of the crowd and the action. If you look carefully you might see old dee behind the goals. One for the Aussie Rules history buffs.2 points

That article is over a decade old and I don't think there's any real issue converting digital media to comply with new technology. Back on topic I have a copy of the last few minutes of our match against Hawks at Glenferrie in 1964 including Hassa's goal which got us into the finals. When I figure out/have time to upload to YouTube I'll post here. I have a couple other snippets of games from the mid-late 60's as well which seem to have been taken from the National Film and Sound Archive.2 points

We have been rarely winning anywhere, rjay. I'm of the old school that it shouldn't matter a stuff where we play, if you can get there you go and support, home game or not. I remember going to VFL Park, Moorabbin, Windy Hill, the Western Oval, I'd go anywhere. Now that I don't live in Victoria, this "MCG or bust" attitude of some frustrates the bejesus out of me.2 points

Nothing to do with arrogance but I will not go again. The last time I went I was waiting outside in a que for the entire first quarter and then made to sit in the top deck when the middle deck was completely empty. ...besides this we never win there. Like I said earlier, if the AFL want a match day experience then at least thinking you can win a game is as good start.2 points

Certainly agree re Essendon. However, I don't understand why people drag Collingwood into this issue. While their traditional Guernsey is primarily black, their alternate one is primarily white, and perfectly fine.2 points

Brett Anderson tweeted: "Jake Lever won't be heading to the Dees at pick 3. Would have loved them to take him, but now GWS/Geel/Rich seem likely destinations. #AFLDraft" His mail is usually spot on so looks like Brayshaw and whichever of McCartin and Petracca the Saints don't take.2 points

Not sure there is any footage of old games kept. They've been kind enought to let me into their archives as part of my research for Demonwiki and it's basically pictures/books/programs/memorabilia etc.. I've never seen any rogue VHS' or film reels in there (unless they're well hidden). They must get this stuff from somewhere for tribute videos and the like but I suspect it has to come from the broadcaster or the AFL rather than our own collection. What they could do is make a playlist out of all the MFC games other people have uploaded and embed it on the website. There are heaps of clips of anywhere between two minutes and entire matches that have been uploaded in various places across YouTube.2 points
