Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where is Allen Jakovich?

I loved this guy. The most tallented goal kicker I have ever seen play in the Red and Blue. Unfortunently he loved the party life too much, trained poorly and was thus injury prone. His career was very short and very sweet. For a couple of seasons he was amazing. Kicked some incredible goals and was simply unstoppable.

What ever happened to him? Where is he today?

I was fortunate enough to say that I watched him play. For me he was the most talented person to pull on a pair of football boots for this club.

You went to the game just to watch him. And you never knew whether he would kick 1goal 10 points or 10goals 1 point! The amazing thing was how many possessions he crafted from absolutely nothing.

Just look through the list that BBP has provided. When did you last see a forward getting 16 or 17 shots on goal? Or with Jackovich, if he got 5 goals for the day it probably meant he only collected 6 touches.

Such a great waste of talent, because he simply wouldn't do ANY work on the training track. Gary Lyon provides some insight in his book "Demon Within", and the frustrations of trying to convince him to get off his bum and train with the rest of them.

He had the talent, flamboyance and charisma of Ablett, without the dedication, concentration and work ethic.

Easily the most excxiting player I have seen. Easily. I will never forget him, I still have a signed photo of him framed on my wall addressed to me.

These days he runs a fishing charter company up in Coffs Harbour.

I heard he went back up to Darwin for a time and was allegedly busted for something and spent some time in the big house. Maybe it would have been better if we pick up Glen instead. Did not have any skills but could play hard.

More on ...............

Nothing like the bump of a decade old thread that makes my five year old Demonland account feel insignificant.

In all seriousness, funnily enough, it seems we know about the same as we did ten years ago.

I have no doubt that radio presenters, journalists, etc. have reached out to him over the years.  Though he had a short careers he had a big profile (original Footy Show panellist, etc). Every 90s football fan knows Allen Jakovich.

He is simply someone who chooses to remain hidden.

I never saw him play as i moved to Australia in 1998.

But why dont we ever hear about him at all? Has the club actually reached out to him?

Ahhh dazzle, you have NO IDEA what you missed.

A 100%, Rolled gold, unadulterated superstar. The turnstiles whirred like a Gatling gun every time he played early days.....

Could out mark a guy 15kgs heavier, and 15cm taller

Knew instinctively when to put himself, to be at the drop of a ball.

Knew his range, regardless of weather.

Was not out muscled by anyone.

Brilliant kick, whether a set shot, or a snap over his shoulder.

God damn this guy was a sensation.

1 of my all time Demon highlights. Would light up today's game also, provided you didn't care about defensive pressure. Honestly, he probably would have been carried, even if he didnt chase in today's game .

Look him up on youtube. worth every second.

(to be fair, not many players in the games history would have weighed 15kg more than Jacko)

He was deceptively quick over 3-5 metres so he often got front spot

That North game was something else.  The phrase "he had the ball on a string" comes to mind.  I have no  doubt that his hack out of mid air to kick a goal over his head will remain on highlight reals for years to come.

In reality, Jacko was just one of the many gun forwards of that era that the MFC couldn't keep on the park long enough together.  Jackovich, Lyon, Bennett, Swartz, Neitz, Smith, Pike, Charles, Farmer, what a ride.

yes re the North game. In my memory he had 11.1 on the board at 3/4 time that day. Kicked 7 points in the last. He hit the scene like Franklin hit the scene...irrepressible. But didnt take care of his injuries apperantly,  and very amateurish in approach. Next to schwartz was THE big heart ache re injuries Ive had in 40 + years of following the dees.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
