Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where is Allen Jakovich?

My favourite memory of the Yugoslavic beast is his first game. I believe it was against Adelaide and his opponent was one Daniel Hughes. In the first quarter Hughes, as they say in the classics, gave Jackovich one and Jackovich just got up and biffed him back. I knew at that moment we had a gun and that, like in the Chekov plays, the gun would go off.

You'll need to get a new favourite memory. (See above.) The Crows game was Jako's second game.

To be fair most Melbourne supporters have wiped that round 1 game from memory. 2.8.20 in the wet in Perth with a load of expectation following the unceremonious loss to the Eagles in the 1990 finals series. Diabolical.

Would be better if he got the sort of delivery Jockovich had. Our mids have never learned how to hit up a leading target.

Good point. There remains a conga line of ball butchers now. Looking at the Jakovich highlights there was some seriously good delivery to him. But I am still conflicted by our recent great wins against Geelong and Hawthorn sans Hogan. There was some great fluid forwardline efficiency in those games rarely seen in the last decade.

We won easy by a point.

Yep. Funny how memory and time plays tricks. I believe we had the game in the bag though and they had a late goal. I was so excited by our win and Jako's performance that it all seemed more emphatic than it was. Moorabin was normally such a miserable place for us.

It is the great man's birthday today, his 49th. SEN breakfast mentioned it this morning and vowed to try and track him down. Garry Lyon was less than confident of success saying he was last heard of running a fishing trawler near Coffs Harbour. They thought they may be able to make contact via Glenn. Let us hope SEN has some success.

Check post #66 at the 7 goal mark.  The goal looks de rigueur these days, back then it was astounding...

Picked at CHF because Bennett was at FF.  Listed in the Record at 188cm but like Piggy looked shorter being built like an OomPahLoompah.  They only played one good game together which was against the Swans at the SCG each kicking 7 or 8 goals from FF and FP.  Typically he had 17 kicks from FF, 8 points and then 9 goals.

Overall, it would have been better to keep Bennett but MFC are drama queens (and kings) favouring Smith Snr and Jnr, Icke/Wight as KPP's

That ain't right, Keeping him wasn't really an option. Bennett was shot. Could barely get on the park and when he could had lost all form and confidence. Continual knee problems and other injuries including a broken arm brought about the big man's retirement from footy.

True, Bennett's kicking confidence also completely disappered. Arguably the most booming kick ever seen at his peak, his last season wobbles makes Travis Cloke look like a dead eye dick.

I thought Bennett left to go be a Hall of Fame punter with the San Diego Chargers; I didn't think we "retired" him

Guess i should say hello now

:ph34r::blink::ph34r::blink:

Just cos its my username though!

Approx 1994 he speeds past me on the south eastern with his Jako13 number plates doing about 160 clicks. I'm 19 at the time driving my piece of crap '76 corolla and decide i've got nothing better to do. So i speed up to see if i can catch him - the Corolla gets to 130 (4 speed 4 cylinder.... old piece of '[censored]' - still amazed that it got to tgat speed) and promptly overheats and loses all power - stuck in the middle lane of the south eastern near waverley for 30 mins can' get out to push due to cars zooming past on either side. Finally it starts again, got it home and had about another year of awesome adventures out of the car (yep had to replace the head gasket after that - was the beginning of the end fir the car!) Before paying $50 for the wrecker to come and collect it - yep that bad the wrecker couldn't get anything out of it. And never saw Jako in his car or the awesome Jako13 number plates again.

If you got to the end that crap story is why my username is Jako13

He spent his last year with MFC in the seconds and I think we won the seconds flag with Bennett that year 1992? They played Bennett at CHF for much of 1992 but it didn't work as I remember it. They just didn't compliment each other unfortunately. They both could only work out of the forward square. Bit like Strawbs and jimmy as twin towers.

It didn't really work but worth the experiment.,

I remember the astonishment from the sports writers in the states when Bennett stopped a sure touchdown from a punt return. He was the last player between the punt returner and the touch line - Bennett laid a bone crunching tackle on the player.

The sport writers were astonished as punters never laid tackles in the NFL and I was astonished because Bennett never laid a tackle in the AFL.

I believe Bennett also hurt the other guy too and he had to assisted off the the ground. Here is a sample of Bennett kicking for us.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
