A very sad photo of Jack, the school boy killed in an accident, in the Herald Sun, dressed in his MFC gear. I hope the Club will reach out to the family to see if there is anything they can do. Devastating

Shocking. A parent’s worst nightmare.

how the [censored] do you drive through a school fence

honour the kid in round 1

It's been mentioned she had some sort of medical episode.  All in all, such a tragic thing to have happen.  That poor family.

Absolutely tragic. The community is heartbroken for the families involved.

Would be great for the club to do something in rd 1

Absolutely horrific and a parents nightmare.

If the family are supportive of it, I think it would be a wonderful tribute to do something for the memory of a young Dee’s fan in Rd1

I really do hope the footy club does something. There is not a parent in the country whose heart isn't going out to that poor family this week.

Puts all the BS we argue about on here into perspective.

Surely as supporters we can drive this. Doesn’t the cheer squad do the banner? They can put a tribute there. Let’s contact the club and get them to reach out to the family and have them as our special guests Round 1. Let’s get his classmates to be the honour guard. There is so much we can do to support this kid, his family and school friends.

This really hit home for a number of reasons. Absolutely unfathomable in Australia that you would send your child to school and not expect them to come home.

As a father I find it almost incomprehensible to think about outliving your children. My sincerest thoughts go out to all involved in this heart-breaking tragedy.

Heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking when I heard the news.

Your boy goes to school and doesn’t come home. Terrible Sadness is all I feel.

Hopefully the Dees reach out sometime to support his family.
I would fully support whatever the MFC club and our community can do in these tragic circumstances.

This is a tragedy.

A young life lost far too soon.

I also hope the Melbourne Football Club do something to honour Jack Davey in Round 1.

I note the club has responded to his dad's Instagram post saying they'll get in touch with an offer to help in any way they can.  Lovely gesture.

It hit home for me because my nephew is the same age as Jack.  I can't imagine how the family must be feeling, as I can't fathom something horrible like that happening to James. Just horrible.  I feel like crying.

Hi All

Probably a bit closer for me than most here - he played footy in the under 11s at Glen Iris Gladiators with my son. His dad is the team manager.

There has been 2 go fund me's set up - one with the money going directly to the Davey family to allow them as much time as possible for whatever they need and the other set up by the primary school for all the families involved - donate what you can spare to help

My heart goes out to the Parents and Family.  .. to HIS friends at school, the school community and.wherever he touched others such as the Gladiators. My condolences to your lad and yourself.

Unfathomable,  it goes to place no parent/grandparent ever wants to go.

So terribly sad :(

So very sad.

One thing I never want to experience as a parent is the loss of one of my kids. Really feel for the family and hope MFC reach out to them.

Thanks for sharing Bob.

Being involved in community sports at that age group rams home for me how devastating this will be for the community, never mind poor Jack’s family.

Tragic.

The heart wrenching impact of Jack's passing on friends and all those he touched in his all to short life.  Perhaps best summed up in this comment: “Jack was exactly the sort of child you would dream up if you were conjuring a perfect friend for your own beloved child.“[His death] has broken my son’s heart. It has robbed our community of a future natural-born leader, and a damn decent kid who shone so brightly you could just about see his halo.”

It speaks volumes to a great kid and a wonderful, courageous family.

My heart bleeds for them 💔

And for @Sideshow Bob who posted above that his son and Jack played in the same team 💔

Totally [censored] and a parents worst nightmare.  My youngest son is just a little older and if that happened to him....   Hopefully th family is getting the support they need. It would be great for the club to do something to acknowledge a young supporter taken way too early.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
