A watch on Melbourne & how it looks to strengthen its front half in October.

This is nonsense. Not only is he woeful, he has dyed his hair Roy Batty-like to draw even greater attention to it. I couldn't even see North Melbourne considering him. Dromana at a stretch.

I asked chatGPT this question: how hopeless is rory lobb?

It seems like you might be expressing some frustration or disappointment regarding Rory Lobb, who is known as an Australian rules football player. He's had his ups and downs in performance like many athletes, but describing him as "hopeless" might not fully capture his abilities and contributions to the sport. Lobb has been recognized for his versatility on the field, particularly due to his height and ability to play both forward and in ruck positions. His career has included notable stints with teams like the GWS Giants and Fremantle Dockers, where he has had impactful games.

I'd rather keep Schache for another year.

Lobb’s 20 times the player Schache is, and Lobb’s not particularly good.

Any chance to bash Schache, huh.

Was at the WB & Saints game last Thursday and I reckon he is a pinch hit  ruck & forward, where he has minimal impact in both.

Kind of like a perpetual current Harry Petty. Frustrating Dogs supporters no doubt.

100% we should look at Lobb.  As long as we aren't paying too much for him he is exactly what we need in our side!

IF...

Petty goes and Jefferson doesn't come on we may have little choice.

Dogs to pay 40% of salary or similar may be worth looking at if no one else is around

Not a tempting outlook though

The frustration I have with Lobb is that he is essentially the same size as Mumford with none of the aggression. I’m not talking slamming guys into the turf or knocking the stuffing out them with hip and shoulders, but things like smashing into marking packs. Giving the opposition players something to think about if they know you’re running up behind them.

Mumford was 199cm and 109 kg

Lobb is 207cm and 106kg (12kg heavier than Hipwood and 3kg heavier than Tom Hawkins)

Different body types yes but Lobb is still massive in terms of weight and he’s quick for his size so would generate greater momentum. He doesn’t utilise his size and play like a big guy up forward, he plays like a third tall.

Who would fear Rory Lobb in the AFL?

If he was five years younger I'd say roll the dice on him if he came cheap enough. No chance with his current output and age though.

If he was 5 years younger we would have the benefit of 20/20 and know that he is no better than Schache

Moved to SA to be closer to family since his wife is ill. He won’t move to Victoria and fair enough.

Maybe Geelong could make him a short term Hawkins replacement ?  Fits the age profile.

Looking forward to him in red and blue next year kicking 35 goals and giving Gawn a nice chop out in the ruck. Just what our side needs, will be an astute bit of business!

Australia would have to build another data centre to cope with the demand on the servers during the Match day thread.

lobb has kicked 35+ goals once in his career - in 2022, his last year for flagmantle

he's also only managed to more than 20 games a season four times out of ten completed seasons; two of those in his first four years in the system

he'll be 32 by the time the start of 2025 rolls around

he's not a very good player

That's how I look at it, lots of IFs

  • Petty's possible departure?
  • BBB impending retirement?
  • Jefferson's growth?
  • Schache contract expiration?
  • Joel Smith's future?

I think it could be ok squad depth addition (not a Best 22 etc)  if the dogs are fitting some of the bill.

Not one to be super excited about but could play a role if called upon (or that would be the idea at least)

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
